In 2009, Steven Soderbergh was attached to the project as director, but production company Columbia Pictures dropped the project a mere three days before production was to start. The studio apparently didn't like the script which Steven Zaillian wrote for Soderbergh, because it was too different than Soderbergh's original vision.
