The two biggest messages in Hme and Away are that in a world full of broken homes unconventional families are as viable as anything and anyone can achieve redemption if they try hard enough. This is demonstrated here by the character of Sam:only a few episodes ago he was a self-centred jerk but here he takes responsibility for Sandy and Bella because they need it and it's the right thing to do.And as June notes he becomes a better person because of it.When Sndy says he's their knight in shining armour, she means it and even though he says they're not in love her expression suggests otherwise.

The theme is further shown in the growing bond between Alf and Shauna.Faced with the loss of Ailsa, he effectively invites the daughter she hardly knew into his family. When he reveals(or rather confirms)the circumstances surrounding her conception, he urges her not to blame herself for the sins of her father, even though he once did the same.

But it's not all seriousness as the Bay's youngsters indulge in a randomised game of Dare.Forcing Dani to remain quiet borders on the abusive(although she quickly finds other ways to communicate)and rather sweetly Will keeps his socks on while effectively streaking. The younger teens are left looking on in wry bemusement(with Jade and Kirsty retaining their ability to appear in doorways at awkward moments)but one suspects they'll be causing trouble themselves before too long...
