The main character is a textile worker, apolitical, who largely ignores the political turmoil and mounting violence of Turkey in 1980. In one telling early scene, he is in a coffee shop when shots are heard. Within two seconds, he and everyone else is hiding under the table.
One day in September, it is announced on TV that the army has taken control. The main character is indifferent to this, even though some of the union leadership in his workplace have been arrested. Then late one night, the police come for him...
A chilling story of life in a military dictatorship. Memories of this time are still vivid in Turkey, because the country has yet to get over the full effects of the coup.
