Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer have been hired by Columbia to write the adaptation of the video game "Uncharted: Drake Fortune."According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be produced by Avi Arad, Charles Roven, Ari Arad and Alex Gartner.The duo.s credits include "Sahara" as well as the upcoming "Dead of Night" and "Conan" remake. From Splash Page: No matter how many times Marvel's Punisher films start over from scratch, Dolph Lundgren will always be the first-live action Frank Castle.

The iconic action star wrote, directed and headlined in his latest direct-to-dvd film "Command Performance" and returns to the big screen in 2010 for Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables." As far as upcoming comic book films go, however, "Conan" is the only one that has his attention right now, and he said he hasn't been keeping up with the skull-shirted vigilante he first portrayed in 1989.

"No, I haven't seen any of [the new 'Punisher' movies]," Lundgren told MTV News. The Swedish-born actor has kept a tight schedule since he began directing his own movies like "The Mechanik" and "Diamond Dogs," so it's understandable that he might not be able to find the time.

New movie adaptation planned for barbarian warrior Kull

Paradox Entertainment says it is planning a new film based on the warrior hero Kull.

Paradox's CEO Fredrik Malmberg revealed plans for the reboot to French website Fantasy.fr.

Robert E Howard, who also created Conan, introduced Kull in a 1929 issue of the pulp magazine Weird Tales. The character later appeared in comics by Marvel and more recently Dark Horse.

Born in Atlantis around 20,000Bc, Kull is exiled over a mercy killing and later vecomes a mercenary and eventually king of Valusia on the neighbouring continent of Thuria.

A film adaptation, Kull the Conqueror, was released in 1997, directed by John Nicolella and starring Kevin Sorbo in the title role. Other cast members included Tia Carrere, Harvey Fierstein and Primeval star Douglas Henshall.

Donnelly, Oppenheimer to Pen ‘Drake’s Fortune’

Columbia Pictures picked up the rights to a screen adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune back in June, and Kyle Ward was quickly attached to write.

Due to other commitments, Ward has now gracefully bowed out of the project, and screenwriting duo Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer stepped in to take his place.

The two writers were responsible for Sahara, Conan, Cowboys & Aliens, and the upcoming adaptation of the  comic book Dead of Night.

Donnelly and Oppenheimer will have their hands full writing the action-packed adaptation. The video game, which sold 1 million copies in its first 10 weeks on the market, follows treasure hunter Nate Drake who is, of course, descended from the famous explorer Sir Francis Drake.

Drake believes a cursed statue has revealed to him the location of the legendary city of El Dorado, and sets out to find the treasure that is said to be hidden there. »

Sony Pictures has hired two new writers to adapt “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune,” a movie based on PlayStation 3 hit video game, into a theatrical feature, reports Latino Review.

It was previously announced that Kyle Ward (Hitman 2) was writing the script for the action-adventure, but apparently that deal never went through.

Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly are set to pen the film adaptation. They have previously penned “Sahara” and are the writers on the upcoming “Dead of Night” and “Conan” adaptations.

The story follows a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nate Drake who believes he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue. Back in June we first learned of Sony.s plan to bring the megahit PS3 game Uncharted: Drake.s Fortune to the big screen and that Kyle Ward was hired to pen the screenplay. Uncharted Film Gets Conan Writers to Scribe Drake’s Fortune

A few months ago before the release of Uncharted 2 on PS3, there was a report that a film version of the popular game series would be made into a movie. Since then not much has been heard until now, our friends at Latino Review are reporting that original writer, Kyle Ward will not be writing Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune for Sony citing Ward’s work on Hitman 2 preventing him from getting Sony a script sooner.

It is looking like the studio is going to hire Conan screenwriters Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to write the screenplay. While this deal has yet to be finalized, Latino Review is certain that it will be announced in the trades sometime soon.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and its recent sequel are great adventure videogames that springboard off of Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider, with much more fluidity and cinematic flair than we’re usually accustomed to in gameplay. That said — it’s a videogame, and like all videogames, it will shine most brilliantly as something interactive, while a film will only diminish its value.

Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the screenwriters behind A Sound of Thunder, the upcoming Conan, and Sahara have been tasked with bringing Uncharted to life on the big screen.

As an adventure film, this has plenty of potential — about as much as it stands to derive many of its qualities from the Indiana Jones franchise. However, that vacuum left by Indy’s last crusade has never been successfully filled by any successors; could Uncharted transcend the usual flaws of videogame adaptations and become a truly great action-adventure franchise? »

I sure do love waking up to video game adaptation news, especially when it's as exciting as the latest update. For anyone who owns a PlayStation 3, one of the few must-own titles is undoubtedly "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" (and now its sequel, "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves"). Great game, in the running-and-jumping-and-climbing-and-shooting vein of the "Tomb Raider" series, with amazing graphics and an overall presentation which feels pulled straight from a Hollywood blockbuster. The story is pure popcorn, with an "Indiana Jones" kind of vibe, a plucky female sidekick and a gang of villains pulled straight from central casting.

News broke over the summer that Sony would be guiding "Uncharted" to a big screen adaptation, with "Hitman 2" (another, as-yet-unreleased game adaptation) writer Kyle Ward delivering a script. ‘Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune’ Movie Finds New Writers

The good folks over at Latino Review have the scoop on an update for the film adaptation for the successful and critically acclaimed video game, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

As it turns out, Kyle Ward, the man originally hired to pen the script has been dropped by Sony due to his contractual obligations to other projects (Hitman 2, Kane & Lynch). Sony wasn’t interested in delaying or waiting so they’ve brought in the pair of writers behind the Conan reboot: Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

As any aware gamer knows, Uncharted and its sequel are developed Naughty Dog, and published by Sony Computer Entertainment only for PlayStation 3.

The screen-writing duo of Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer - responsible for such classics (!) as Sahara and A Sound of Thunder (no, us neither but Ben Kingsley's in it which suggests it might suck) who were taken on to write a script for the upcoming remake of Conan have just been hired to adapt the videogame Uncharted : Drake's Fortune for the big screen.

The hit action-adventure game centres on a 400 year-old clue, found in the coffin of Sir Francis Drake (hence the title) by his descendent Nathan 'Nate' Drake, pointing towards the mythical treasure of El Dorado, at which point the inevitable quest ensues.

You might remember back in June that Sony hired a screenwriter, Kyle Ward, to develop a film based on the PlayStation 3 game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.  Our friends at LatinoReview are now reporting that Kyle's deal fell apart at the last minute because Sony were unwilling to wait around, possibly as long as a year, as Ward was contractually obligated to pen Hitman 2.
