Ortiz Plans To Raise Kids In New York

21 July 2008 9:03 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Ugly Betty star Ana Ortiz is delighted the show was moved to New York - because the city is "a great place to raise a family."

The programme was originally based in Los Angeles but TV bosses relocated the set to the Big Apple to allow workers to take advantage of new tax incentives in the state.

And Ortiz - who is about to start having children with her husband Noah Lebenzon - insists the move fits in perfectly with her plans.

She says, "We found a perfect place in Brooklyn Heights. I love the neighbourhood. It's really mellow, gorgeous and a great place to raise a family. I couldn't resist. I'm looking forward to being a mom."

Ugly Betty Cast Praise New York Move

21 July 2008 5:02 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

The cast of hit Ugly Betty have praised TV bosses for moving the show from Los Angeles to New York - because they love filming in the Big Apple.

The series was relocated to Manhattan earlier this year to allow workers to enjoy new tax incentives on offer in the city.

The decision prompted protests from employees in L.A. who feared the move would result in job cuts.

But the programme's stars have come out in favour of the new location - with America Ferrera insisting that shooting in New York is much more fun.

She says, "I love living in New York City. I feel like I was here in a past life. I take the subway all the time.

"I took the 7 (train) for the first time the other day. I went over to Queens and hung out over the weekend. It was great!"

And Ferrera's co-star Mark Indelicato agrees, adding, "I definitely want to start to see Broadway shows. That's why I got involved in the business. So hopefully I will get to see as many as I can."

Trailer - 'How to Lose Friends and Alienate People'

18 July 2008 6:38 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

I can be a pretty unreasonable guy. I'll give you that much. But when I see a project start to come together the way How to Lose Friends and Alienate People has to this point, I have to pat Hollywood on the back. Nice job. You're taking a clever yarn (even though some of this ground has been covered in The Devil Wears Prada and Ugly Betty), putting it into the hands of an actor who should be a lot more publicized (Simon Pegg), and you're surrounding him with Jeff Bridges, Kirsten Dunst, and the woman with the most eyes on her at the moment (Megan Fox).

That's smart casting, and that's more than we can say for a lot of movies, particularly comedies.

There's a new trailer for it now over at Moviefone, and I think it has plenty of potential. Here's hoping it allows more people to find Simon Pegg,

Their first wedding anniversary was Monday, but Jerry O'Connell and Rebecca Romijn had to spend it on opposite coasts. O'Connell, 34, spent the day in Los Angeles at the Television Critics Association conference promoting his new Fox sitcom Do Not Disturb, while Romijn, 35, was at work on the third season of Ugly Betty in New York. The distance hasn't been a strain for the couple, says O'Connell, adding that they keep in touch by texting and emailing photos on their iPhones. The move will shock fans of the show after season two ended on a cliffhanger with Betty having to choose between Gorham's character and rival potential lover Gio, played by Freddy Rodriguez.

Actor Val Emmich has been cast as the new love interest for Betty - played by America Ferrara - as Rodriguez is not expected to make a comeback for more than one show, according to Hollywood Reporter.

Salma Hayek: This Is 'The Best Time in My Life'

18 June 2008 5:05 AM, PDT | From PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news

Is it hard being over 40 in youth-obsessed Hollywood? No way, says new mom Salma Hayek. "I'm 41 now," she said while being honored at Tuesday's Women in Film Crystal+Lucy Awards. "And I have to say, it is the best time in my life." That prompted Jada Pinkett Smith – who was also being recognized, along with her costars from the upcoming chick flick, The Women – to shout out, "You look good!" Hayek – who gave birth to daughter Valentina Paloma last September with billionaire fiancé Francois-Henri Pinault – said she is finally coming into her own. "I have learned to enjoy time to be a woman.

Jensen's Secret Sister

15 June 2008 6:58 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Ugly Betty star Ashley Jensen has been rocked by the revelation she has a secret sister, who she has never met.

The Scottish actress recently found out that her father Ivar had an affair when she was a child - and a half-sister called Gillian was the product of the illicit romance.

Jensen has never met her sibling, who is approximately the same age as the 38-year-old actress, and cut contact with her father after her parents split when she was a kid.

Her father Ivar has confirmed the news, telling British newspaper the Sunday Mirror, "I had an affair when I was with Ashley's mum and that's where my other daughter came from.

"I only found out about her recently. She came out of the blue. She looks like me and Ashley."

Lohan Refuses To Submit Name For Emmys

14 June 2008 7:31 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Lindsay Lohan has taken her name out of the race for consideration at the forthcoming Emmy Awards - because her guest spot on Ugly Betty was too "brief".

The actress landed a cameo role in the hit TV show, and was thus eligible to be nominated for the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series trophy.

But Lohan insists she does not want to be put forward for the award just yet, because her character only graces the screen in one short scene.

Her publicist Leslie Sloane tells the Los Angeles Times' Gold Derby blog, "The appearance was brief. We made a decision to wait."

Instead Lohan - who plays a bully on the programme - will wait until the next season of Ugly Betty, when her character will have a more prominent role.

Jackson Steps Into TV

6 June 2008 3:59 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Hollywood actor Samuel L. Jackson is set to follow in the footsteps of Salma Hayek and become an executive producer for a U.S. TV network.

Hayek found success behind the scenes by executive producing hit show Ugly Betty and now Jackson has followed suit by signing a deal with CBS Paramount - the studio behind the Csi: Crime Scene Investigation franchise.

The agreement will see the Pulp Fiction star develop and executive produce projects for the studio through his Uppity Films production company - and he is also open to the idea of appearing in any shows he develops, much like Hayek's sporadic guest spots in Ugly Betty.

CBS Paramount president David Stapf is delighted to see Jackson sign the two-year deal.

He says, "Samuel Jackson is not only a fan of television but a really astute historian who knows it well."

The star has previously produced Spike TV's animated series Afro Samurai which returns to U.S. TV screens this autumn.

Hollywood Productions Moving East

3 June 2008 10:38 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

At least four television series that were to have been produced in Hollywood will be shot in New York instead in order to allow producers to take advantage of recently enacted local and state tax credits for shows filmed in that state, the Los Angeles Times observed today (Tuesday). The series include, Ugly Betty, Life on Mars, Fringe, and Kings. In fact so much TV and film production is suddenly moving to New York that producers are having a difficult time finding studio space there where they can be shot. Jim Sharp, an executive with 20th Century Fox Television, told the Times, "If you try and lock in a soundstage facility, there are people standing in line. You better not blink, or you're going to miss an opportunity." The exodus of shows to New York has raised concerns among Hollywood production crew workers, who already felt the effects of the writers strike in their own pocketbooks. In an interview with the Times, Steve Dayan, a Teamsters' business agent, said, "Television is really the lifeblood of the below-the-line economy in Hollywood, so if we start losing TV series to other states, then obviously it's going to create more hardship for our members."
