Wan-tastic! Australian film-maker James Wan has been named as co-writer and director on the long awaited 'Castlevania' adaptation project. The movie, based on the Konami developed franchise of the same name, had Sylvain White ('I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer') originally set to direct. Wan, whose probably known best for co-creating the ever popular 'Saw' franchise, has had a quiet time of late as it's been nearly 3 years since his last two directorial ... »

A Castlevania movie would seem pretty logical right now, right? Vampires are all the rage, video game adaptations have been popular for at least a decade now, and there's money to be made! But Bloody Disgusting has it from a good source that Paul W.S. Anderson's planned adaptation of the long-running video game is on hold. Sylvain White, who directed Stomp the Yard as well as the lesser known I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, had been picked to direct the story, which would have focused on the origins of the video game's Belmont clan of vampires. But hey, that's all in the past. The idea of a movie adaptation for this video game probably isn't entirely dead, but it won't be popping up very soon. Sorry if you're disappointed. »

A big screen adaptation of Konami's Castlevania video game series has been in development for years now, but with Paul W.S. Anderson at the helm, it seemed destined to be just another terrible video game movie. When it was announced that Anderson would step back to take a producer role, there was a brief glimmer of hope, but then Sylvain White (Stomp The Yard, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer) was chosen to take his place [1] in the director's chair and everyone went right back to not caring. Ian Jeffers (Death Sentence) was hired to write the script with Anderson. Well, the good news is, it looks like Paul W.S. Anderson's take on the project probably won't be seeing the light of day. The bad news is, no one else will likely have a crack at it either. Bloody Disgusting [2] reports that the movie has since fallen »

Castlevania has long since been on the cards as a game to film adaptation over at Rogue Pictures. Hell, I even read last year's script review with a fanboy fascination! The only issue I ever had with the project was that Paul W.S. Anderson was penning a treatment and I always felt it could use a more serious touch.
That in mind, I'd have much preferred Paul W.S. Anderson than no film (or director) at all, which seems to be the sorry state that this project has found itself in!
According to Bloody Disgusting, Castlevania has found itself in that dark and evil place that many a potentially good film has wound up in - Development Hell!
The original director, Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer) dropped out for some reason, and it appears that no one else was willing to even entertain »

Sources close to Bloody-Disgusting have confirmed that Paul W.S. Anderson's Castlevania adaptation has officially turned to dust. The project, originally announced with Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer) attached to direct, had recently went out to new directors only to take a trip into the abyss of "development hell." Simon Belmont, it was nice knowing ya. The pic was to focus on the origins of Dracula and the uprising of the Belmont Clan, a vampire-slaying family who supposedly become humanity's last hope. Ian Jeffers had been penning the screenplay alongside Anderson. We'll keep you posted if any fresh news arises, until then back to the control pad. »
