Man behind the scissors, 6 February 2006

I hope this is the right place to post my review, I had to read a couple other reviews to see if this was the right movie since no English title is posted. This is by the director of the Evil Dead Trap movies, so I was immediately interested as I've seen the first two of those. This is a rather strange and almost atmospheric, at times, tale of a killer of young school girls on the loose, and the killer uses scissors, of course. Now, the killer(s) appear to travel together and of course you're shown them right from the start, so of course you're wondering what the film maker has up his sleeve. After a couple murders the gore-happy press has embraced what they call "The Scissor Man". One evening while stalking prey they come across their intended victim already dead, with a pair of scissors protruding in the proper fashion to have been done by them. And that's when this really starts to become interesting. The musical soundtrack to this has a lot of squawking saxophone, and reminded me of something throughout the movie that I couldn't think of, but it eventually occurred to me it sounds a bit like the soundtrack to "Knife in the Water". As the movie goes on, there are many twists and turns that are revealed, and you won't really expect what you find out. The ending left a little to be desired though, as it gets a bit too long and drawn out. An interesting thriller though, for the most part, and worthwhile for fans of Asian cinema. 7 out of 10.
