John Travolta: the name used to be synonymous with dancing, bad accents, Scientology, and mediocre films. Then Pulp Fiction came out and reminded everyone in Hollywood that he’s actually a pretty good leading man. Often times he plays such an intriguing bad guy, that one can’t help but enjoy his performance, whether you want to or not. Arguably, he was the best part about Face/Off, Primary Colors, A Civil Action, The General’s Daughter, Swordfish and even the ridiculous Battlefield Earth.
After this summer’s mild hit The Taking of Pelham 123, Travolta will channel his best Denzel Washington from Training Day in Pierre Morel’s latest action flick From Paris with Love. Co-starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors, August Rush) as an embassy worker who gets paired up with Detective Wax (Travolta) in Paris, the two seem to work together on a French drug deal - or are they? »

Just as everyone has an opinion, a favorite meal and a nose — albeit a fake one at times — so too does everyone have a birthday. Even celebrities. Here at Birthday Bash, it’s my mission to salute the fine actors, filmmakers and other Hollywood heroes that are celebrating their special day this week. After all, it’s cheaper than mailing a cake.
This week, Birthday Bashers will catch the train leaving Platform 9 3/4 heading for the Cave of Wonders, battling blood-sucking vampires along the way. Or maybe we're just celebrating some actors who've done that dirty work for us. Either way, let's get to the party!
Robin Williams (July 21): Few actors in Hollywood can juggle the role of gut-busting comedian and tear-jerking dramatist like Robin Williams, as seen by his performances in "Good Morning, Vietnam" and "Mrs. Doubtfire," among others. Seriously, go back and check out the cross-dressing comedy -- »

The Oscar-nominated actor Terrence Howard has amassed an impressive resume since making his Hollywood breakthrough in the 1995 drama Mr. Holland's Opus (he also starred in that year's Dead Presidents), excelling at giving each and every one of his characters an extraordinary complexity that always seems to simmer right beneath the surface, whether as part of an ensemble (Crash, Lackawanna Blues), as a villain (Awake, Idlewild), a sympathetic figure (Four Brothers, August Rush), or a hero in waiting (Iron Man). In a discussion about Howard's favorite films, Rotten Tomatoes discovered that the actor's affinity for music runs close to his... »

BAFTA was the buzz word last night as the top names from the British film industry gathered to give itself a big pat on the back. Now scheduled before the Oscars, the BAFTA film awards have seemingly increased in importance and there were surprises (Man on Wire as Outstanding British Film) and the expected love for the heavy-hitters (Kate Winslet as Best Actress, Mickey Rourke as Best Actor and Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire as best everything). However, there are certain categories that had our Boxwish ears pricking up, as did some at America’s prestigious Grammy awards which also rolled out the red carpet last night. We’re talking costumes, hair/ make-up and music. Lots of music.
At Boxwish we’re all about being inspired by movies and at last night’s BAFTAs there were three categories that neatly tied in with that philosophy. Looking to film fashions, Michael »

James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer took home a trophy for Best Score for The Dark Knight, beating out Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Iron Man, There Will Be Blood and Wall-e.
And the Grammy for Best Motion Picture Song went to Thomas Newman and Peter Gabriel for “Down to Earth” from Pixar’s Wall-e, beating out Carrie Underwood’s Ever Ever After from Enchanted, John Mayer’s Say from The Bucket List, Amy Adams’ That’s How You Know from Enchanted and John C Reilly’s Walk Hard from Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.
