Sometimes, when you hear a movie is being turned into a TV show, you can’t help but cringe. It’s not always easy to make the transition from feature film to television show, especially when the movie has a loyal following. Some of the movies that have made the best transition into the TV world include M.A.S.H, Stargate, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Could Gattaca join that list?
Though often overlooked, Gattaca was one of the more interesting science fiction films to come out of the 1990s. Featuring Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, and Jude Law, the movie explored a futuristic society where genetic engineering was the norm, creating a world where “Valids” (individuals who had been genetically enhanced before birth) live in a socially superior position to “Invalids” (average Joes like you and me).

Was it the best Vampire Diaries episode of the season? It was certainly filled with the most backstory.
One staff writer has already reviewed "History Repeating," but now a few of us have gathered for the latest Round Table discussion of our favorite new series.
Must we say farewell to the Salvatore brothers? And can you muster any sympathy at all for Damon? Discuss these issues and more in our Vampire Diaries forum, as we tackle them below...
Is this the last we've seen of Stefan and Damon?
The Barnacle: Is this question serious?!? Of course not. Kevin Williamson has said any character is vulnerable, but not these two. And certainly not yet.
Dr. Shepherd: Sadly, yes. If there's one thing we know, it's that Damon never goes back on his word. This show is going to suck without them - and suck a lot less at the same time, »

One of the original cast of "Heroes" has tweeted that Kate Vernon from "Battlestar Galactica" is going to guest star on the show. Greg Grunberg who plays Matt Parkman wrote on Thursday, November 12, "Kate Vernon from BSG is now on #Heroes -- can't wait for you guys to see her. The 5th!!"
While what kind of role Vernon will play out in the series is not yet known, Grunberg had earlier posted a picture of the actress posing with Robert Knepper. In the sci-fi series, Knepper plays Sam, the ringleader of traveling troupe called The Carnival, so Vernon could either be the latest member of the group or a relative of Sam.
Kate Vernon, who plays Ellen Tigh on "Galactica", has not given commitment to any TV series after the Sci Fi series wrapped up earlier this year. However, she had joined the cast ensemble of "The Last Song" which »

Lord Of The Rings star Dominic Monaghan spooked U.S. chat show host Jimmy Kimmel on TV on Wednesday night by wearing his royal python pet as a wrist accessory during an appearance on the comedian's programme.
Kimmel joked, "I don't like your watch, I'm gonna tell you right now," prompting the actor to introduce the TV presenter to his "friend" Mojave.
Monaghan tried to calm Kimmel's nerves, telling the host, "She's supertame. You'd be in more danger from being hurt by a kitten... Isn't she beautiful?"
The actor is a well-known collector of reptiles and creepy-crawlies and admits his current menagerie includes two whip scorpions, called Indiana and Jones, a black widow spider, called Wichita, and a praying mantis, called Happiness.
He added, "I had a praying mantis called Happiness and a praying mantis called Smile and I put Happiness and Smile together, and, unfortunately, Happiness ate Smile."
Monaghan admits he started studying his preying mantis to perfect his creepy new character in U.S. sci-fi drama FlashForward.
He explained, "I tend to base characters that I play on animals and the reason why I wanted to get a praying mantis is because Simon..., I based on a praying mantis.
"He's like, single-track mind, he's got an idea what he wants to do, he's a killer, he's kinda a bad guy... I do specifically make body movements based on my praying mantis."
Monaghan explains his character in TV hit Lost was based on "a capucin monkey" and Merry from the Lord of The Rings trilogy was "kind of a koala bear". »

Based on the latest superhero movie rumors making the rounds, it looks like I caught the wrong cat last week. Speculation is running rampant that Peter Parker will go web-to-claw against Black Cat in "Spider-Man 4," with "Wedding Crashers" leading lady Rachel McAdams a supposed frontrunner for the role.
Black Cat's involvement in the superhero sequel is still not official—indeed, Splash Page editor Rick Marshall had his own anonymously-sourced scoop on who the "Spider-Man 4" villain could be—but given the tenacity of these rumors, I feel compelled to weigh in just in case Felicia Hardy winds up terrorizing Pete's next big screen adventure.
These are my contenders for the role—hit the comments section and leave some of your own suggestions!

British actor Dominic Monaghan has a dangerous night hobby - he likes wandering into Los Angeles' Griffith Park with a torch to feed coyotes.
The Lord of The Rings and Lost star lives just streets away from the entrance of the park and saves up meat treats to feed to wild dogs.
And, despite warnings about his safety, animal-lover Monaghan insists he has no fear for his life.
He says, "I love that stuff. I got really close to a coyote and I've given him spare ribs... I brought some with me in my pocket.
"They're shy and they're not aggressive... They're like punk rock wolves. They're skinny and ornery."
And the star has no sympathy for owners of small dogs - like Jessica Simpson - who lose their pets to wild dogs.
He adds, "I love the fact that they're eating those little toy dogs. Less toy dogs, more coyotes. I don't like those little Paris Hilton yappy things." »

J.J. Abrams is unfortunately not adapting Stephen King’s sprawling Dark Tower series. The director/producer had expressed interest in May along with “Lost” executive producer Damon Lindelof, but it seems the possibility was too good to be true. The two even went as far as purchasing the option from King for $19.
In an interview with MTV this week, Abrams said, “The Dark Tower thing is tricky. It’s such an important piece of writing. The truth is that Damon and I are not looking at that right now.”
Lindelof confirmed this by telling USA Today after six years of working on “Lost,” the last thing he wants to do is dive into the seven-novel series. The challenge of staying faithful to the material is the sticking point for Lindelof, who referenced Zack Snyder’s difficulty in bringing Watchmen to the screen.

J.J. Abrams, the wizard behind Lost, Fringe, Alias and Mission: Impossible III told MTV that he won’t be bringing Stephen King’s Dark Tower series to the big screen and Shock Til You Drop overheard it. The producer/director/writer made it clear it wasn’t for lack of love:
“You’ll be hard-pressed to find a huger fan of ‘The Dark Tower’ than me, but that’s probably the reason that I shouldn’t be the one to adapt it… After working six years on Lost, the last thing I want to do is spend the next seven years adapting one of my favorite books of all time. I’m such a massive Stephen King fan that I’m terrified of screwing it up. I’d do anything to see those movies written by someone else. My guess is they will get made because they’re so incredible. »

It will never be mistaken for Lost, but The Vampire Diaries will soon have something in common with that ABC hit (aside from Ian Somerhalder).
Producer Kevin Williamson told TV Guide that the show will soon flashback to a major event from its characters' past. We'll let him set it up:
"We have another flashback episode scheduled. We're going to learn more about the night [Stefan and Damon] died."

J.J. Abrams finally said no to a project. Unfortunately, MTV Movies is reporting that project was an adaptation of Stephen King’s wildly popular The Dark Tower series that he and Damon Lindelof were previously attached to. While Abrams cited his reluctance to delve into a new story immediately after finishing Lost, Lindelof mentioned the difficulty of adapting an immensely popular work. “Having seen Zack [Snyder] go through what he went through on Watchmen in terms of saying where can I digress from the material, I just get headaches from changing anything,” he said. Hear that fanboys and fangirls? Your reputation for intense scrutiny has gotten so bad it’s scaring people away from good projects. Keep it up and you can kiss that Wheel of Time adaptation goodbye.

From Movies Blog: It coulda been great! J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof — two of the key dudes behind "Lost" — were set to adapt Stephen King's sci-fi/fantasy opus, "The Dark Tower," for the big screen.
Such a seamless fit between material and filmmakers — it coulda be great, but it ain't gonna happen, as Abrams himself told MTV News' Josh Horowitz recently. "The 'Dark Tower' thing is tricky," he said. "It's such an important piece of writing. The truth is that Damon and I are not looking at that right now."

Welcome to your Wednesday morning television briefing. Given that it's Veteran's Day, there are but a few headlines to get through this morning. Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is reporting that Robert Patrick (The Unit) has been cast in an upcoming episode of NBC's Chuck, where he will play Col. Keller, described as "a mysterious figure from Casey's past." He's slated to appear about halfway through the series' third season in a Casey-centric episode entitled "Chuck Versus the Tic Tac." (Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello Files) TVGuide.com's Natalie Abrams talks to Glee star Chris Colfer about tonight's episode of Glee ("Wheels") and the romantic permutations coming up on the Fox musical dramedy series. "It's very incestual," Colfer told Abrams about the glee club's romantic entanglements. "There's love triangles right now, but there's soon to be love pentagons and hexagons. I get added on to the [Puck-Quinn-Finn-Rachel] quadrangle. We go full force: When Kurt »

At some point in the distant past we reported that J.J. Abrams had purchased the film rights to Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, a hybrid Sci-Fi Fantasy group of novels that redefine epic. J.J. purchased the rights for 19 bucks, a magical number in the series and quite a steal. It appears like J.J. is going to give a pass to the Tower after all. His thoughts: “The Dark Tower thing is tricky,” Abrams said. “The truth is that Damon and I are not looking at that right now.” In an earlier interview with USA Today, Abrams added comments that, quite frankly, make a lot of sense. He says, “After working six years on ‘Lost,’ the last thing I want to do is spend the next seven years adapting one of my favorite books of all time. I’m such a massive Stephen King fan that I’m terrified of screwing it up. »
