While there are no mainstream horror releases this week, it's a Huge week for fans of under-the-radar titles, vintage frights, indie and international horror.
There's quite a few re-issues, some titles hitting Blu-ray for the first time, and several collections hitting stores. Filmmaker Gregory Lamberson passed along an update on Slime City Massacre, the sequel to his 1988 flick Slime City, which is gearing up to shoot next month. He additionally sent some photos of a makeup FX test session with actress Jennifer Bihl and a postapocalyptic concept image; you can see those below.
“I developed this project simultaneously with another one called Deadly Rites,” Lamberson says. “I suspected that the executive producer on Deadly Rites was jerking my chain, and when my suspicion proved correct, I had Slime City Massacre ready to go. I knew that the only way I was going to get another feature off the ground was to say, ‘I’m going to make this film come hell or high water. Somehow I’ll raise the money and begin production on July 11.’ I was only off by one day—we’re shooting on July 10!”

POPcinema gave Fango the scoop that it’s releasing the complete filmography of indie horrormeister Greg Lamberson in the two-dvd Slime City Grindhouse Collection July 28 on the Shock-o-Rama label. The company also gave us the first peek at the art for the cover and a poster that’s part of the extras package, as well as a promotional teaser; you can see them all below.
