When Snake talks with Director Granin in his office, the theme playing on the radio is the Metal Gear Solid theme. Also, the specifications he shows to Snake are of Metal Gear REX from Metal Gear Solid (1998) (VG). There are also figurines of Metal Gear REX, Metal Gear RAY from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001) (VG) and Jehuty from Zone of the Enders Z.O.E (2001) (VG) visible in the background, along with a photograph of Granin with his American friend (the grandfather of Hal Emmerich, Metal Gear REX's chief engineer in the original Metal Gear Solid).

As we all know, hype is a double edged sword, and this was one of the most hyped games of the year. It does not disappoint. The game is everything I was hoping for and more. Beautiful environments, smooth gameplay, and interesting story. Of course, if you have played the demo, you will notice they throw a couple of changes in to the opening sequence. You haven't even started to play and they are messing with you mind.

The loading time is shorter, the controls are better, and the whole cure system adds a new element to the game. Also, the whole environment can either be your ally or your enemy. There are so many options on how to proceed, I am sure that many gamers will have a very different gaming experience than others.

Anyway, if you are new to the metal gear series or still reeling from the perceived disappointment of MGS2, this game will make you a true fan.
