Funny, sexy movie with witty repartee, 3 April 2006
9/10

Knots is a funny, sexy and entertaining movie about six thirty-something characters experiencing life and love in NYC. Credit must be given to the co-writer/director, Greg Lombardo, for making this diverse group of actors a believable set of friends and lovers. John Stamos just about steals the movie. This role is clearly the precursor to his new TV series which even borrows the name "Jake" from one of the characters in Knots. Stamos' looks, charm and winning smile are used to great effect. Paulina Porizkova was a wonderful surprise. Having not seen or heard anything about her in a number of years, she is well-cast as the story's sexy catalyst. Scott Cohen and Annabeth Gish are a married couple with a very real relationship that gets played out on a number of levels. Michael Leydon Campbell is sweet as Jake, the underdog. Credit also goes to the director/producers for casting Tara Reid against type. Set primarily in Brooklyn with some action in Manhattan, the homes and offices look realistic and lived in; you feel like you could hang out there and enjoy spending time with these interesting and quirky characters. The movie is well-written; the story is moved along by a couple of unexpected twists and turns, including the ending, and the dialog has some great repartee and one-liners. A very enjoyable and worthwhile 90 minutes. Check it out.

I laughed all the way through and out loud which is a rarity for me. Funny situations, great acting, great writing. Go see it. Paulina I for sure thought would be a terrible actress, but she was the surprise of the film! Her acting was actually amazing. I mean, you have to see it to believe it, but she was so strong. I also liked the fact that Tara Reid was not overblown to be such a star in the film. She played her part and that was it. She was not focused on just because who she is. I also loved Annabeth Gish of Mystic Pizza fame, she is a very believable actress. And John Stamos was perfect for his role. The only bad thing I can say about this movie is that Tara Reid's part was probably for a girl who was not as hot as she is and some of the lines don't totally go for her, but that is really nothing. Also the end is great!

I just can't describe how good this film is!, 23 March 2004

It all begins with a bored married couple moving to Manhattan, huge happy faces on every box.

In an incredibly funny film about relationships (Director Greg Lombardo describes it as a comedy about our search for connection and the romantic disasters we survive along the way), Scott Cohen finds out painfully that his marriage is in trouble, and things unravel and ravel and unravel again from there. I have a feeling that quite a few quotes will end up here after the film gets a general release.

Paulina Porizkova, as a vixen with an evil grin who seems to enter the fray from all sides, is the big surprise, as she creates a supporting role deserving of an Academy Award nomination.

Also great are John Stamos, Annabeth Gish, and Tara Reid. I want the DVD now! Edit: I've got it!

Very Funny, Poignant Film...Not To Be Missed, 3 April 2006
9/10

Knots is a clever portrayal of the modern day urban relationship and love triangle genre. It is both poignant and relevant and effectively portrays a range of viewpoint and emotion relating to how people interact with each other both in and out of relationships and how people come face-to-face with their own demons. Scott Cohen and Annabeth Gish give strong performances. John Stamos is brilliant with his character portrayal of a care free womanizer (I can hands down say this is his strongest work that I have seen to date) and the rest of the cast does an overall strong job of rounding out the movie. I thought the movie was well written and directed with a crisp, thorough understanding of mood, pacing and the genre as a whole. Greg Lombardo does a masterful job of allowing the characters to evolve in a way that feels very natural and then gets out of their way allowing them to follow their own path to meaning and discovery. Overall, I think this a meaningful comedy with a strong message that shouldn't be missed.

Great production; smart, moving and funny, 3 April 2006

This was a wonderful movie, capturing the bitter sweet comedy of human relationships at a very personal scale. Smart and edgy, with real characters and a classic well told story of friends and marriage. The movie captures the New York mood and the interaction of young friends as they confront the stresses of relationships and the unexpected twists and turns of growing up. The film is beautifully directed to bring out the best of the wonderful cast, while maintaining a natural look and feel, allowing the clever humor to carry the viewer through a variety of stresses in love and friendships. I highly recommend this film to anyone interested in humor and personal interaction--in short to everyone.

Very funny, great NYC film, 28 March 2006

Great little film shot in NYC and starring a brilliant John Stamos. Very quirky comedy about the perils of dating, marriage, and other relationships with a great new york feel to the whole thing. Even though it has its "ridiculous" moments, they never veer from believable and there are a ton of great laughs and thoughtful moments.

John Stamos is hysterical as smooth talking Cal. And Paulina Pori..whatever, is sexy as ever. Definitely a character study of 20 and 30 somethings trying to solve the mystery of dating in New York. Some great Brooklyn locations add to the mix. Can't wait to see what the director does next. His previous film, Macbeth in Manhattan, I also saw and enjoyed. Two thumbs up

I rented this movie the other night and was thoroughly surprised by how good it was. I'm not a real "indie" sort of guy, but I thought the story was great without being trite or falling into a lot of the traps that sometimes come with a comedy like this. The characters are well drawn and there are some real standout performances, especially from John Stamos, Paulina Porzikova, and the guy who played "Jake" - really funny! The plot covers six main characters and still manages to make perfect sense... all the while being pretty hysterical. Stamos' character has some great lines which I plan on using! All in all, great little movie.

Loved this Film...!!!!!!!!!! (may be too liberal sexually for some folks), 20 February 2005

I saw this on TV last night (I think it was the Lifetime Channel). Wow, what a TREAT...! It's got a good solid script, good actors and is truly funny. Paula P. was perfect for her part, which was very central to the story. I actually used to know someone in real life that was like her character in this film only he was a man (and incredibly handsome). I fell in love and or like with most of the film's characters, and am a big fan of Paula's -- but the coolest thing was that this was not like a hundred other movies I have already seen. It truly has its own originality.

Good cinematography, great directing, great acting, great script -- what more can we ask for?! The only thing that really bugs me about this film is that obviously the Big Boys in Hollywood in charge of the money flow decided not to market and promote this film. Too bad. Their loss! I'm going to have to look up who wrote the screenplay because I'd like to see whatever else s/he has done!!

I saw this at the Gen Art film festival in New York and I laughed my ass off.

It's a great comedy about the dynamics that modern urban relationships can take. It is at once comic, tragic and outrageous.

The dichotomy between the honest yet ruthless redhead relationship crusher and the thoughtless infidelity carried out by John Stamos is fascinating.

Great Script Fun movie

Can't wait to add it to my DVD collection.

Superb acting by entire cast ! If you are not a Stamos fan, you will be after watching this. He steals the performance from right under the other actors in every scene. His plays a sleazy character but does it so well that you want to root for him. Michael Leydon Campbell is so lovable - kind of a guy every girl wants but does not go for. Even the storyline about the married couple gets interesting and leaves you wanting to know what happens to them.

The movie is about love / commitment from guys' point of view. And it's surprising how similar and how different it is from girls' POV. However,if you are easily offended then this movie is not for you.
