As well as music, iTunes does films too, to buy or rent. Rentals usually cost £2.50 to £3.50, but every week those nice chaps (or chapesses) hand select one to be available at a much lower 99p. Every week i review the selection, ‘cos quite often it can be a little obscure…
This week, to celebrate 40 years of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, they’ve chosen the first Python movie 1971’s And Now For Something Completely Different.
Straight off, i should mention that, despite the fact it was released as such, it isn’t actually a movie. To capitalise on their popularity, they re-recorded 90 minutes of their sketches, put a title on it, and released it in theatres. As just a longer collection of their usual tv sketches, with no narrative of any kind weaved through it, it’s impossible to review it as a film.
There are three types of people. »

Reported by THR's Risky Biz earlier today, Warner Bros. is in the works to bring Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to the Broadway stage. The spectacle is set to be produced by American Beauty director Sam Mendes' production company Neal Street Productions, with Mendes also rumored to direct. Popular Scottish playwrite David Grieg is set to write the book, with Scott Wittman and Hairspray alumni Marc Shaiman set compose. This is not the first time that a Broadway show has been spun-off from a Hollywood film. In the past, the stage has graced us with faithful and popular adaptations of The Full Monty, The Little Mermaid and Shrek. Let's see if Charlie can hold note. »

Scottish-born character actor Robert Carlyle is one of the most versatile thespians you're likely to meet. He's played a cold-blooded killer on the classic UK crime drama Cracker (1990), a police officer in the BBC drama Hamish Macbeth (1995-97), a psychopath in Trainspotting (1996), a strip-teasing steelworker in The Full Monty (1997), an international terrorist who feels no pain in the Bond film The World is Not Enough (1999), and an intelligence operative in 24: Redemption (2008).
And those are just a few highlights.
Inspired to take up acting after reading Arthur Miller's "The Crucible", the graduate of Glasgow Arts Centre probably never imagined, however, that a journey that began in Scotland's largest city would one day take him to distant worlds aboard an ancient starship. Yet, it is aboard the starship Destiny in a distant corner of the universe where Carlyle now finds himself, as he dons the persona of Dr. Nicholas Rush in Stargate Universe, »

The Full Monty star Robert Carlyle has vowed to venture away from British cinema - because audiences aren't interested in his movies.
The actor believes he gave the performances of his life in his last two films, Summer and I Know You Now, but he's fed up they received a muted reaction.
He says, "I made two movies about 18 months ago. In my opinion, I think they are the best performances I have ever given. I am very, very proud of these films. But they were only seen by about 20 people and I've had it. I'm not doing it for a while."
The Trainspotting star will now devote time to working in the U.S., where he is currently shooting sci-fi TV series Stargate: Universe. »

Scottish actor Robert Carlyle is desperate for Danny Boyle to film the sequel to cult movie Trainspotting - insisting he would "jump though hoops of fire" to star in an adaptation of Irvine Welsh's Porno.
The Slumdog Millionaire director has long been rumoured to be working on taking Porno to the big screen - 13 years after Trainspotting made the cast household names.
Boyle recently insisted he would only start shooting the sequel once the actors started to look older - stating Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner and Jonny Lee Miller were all too well-preserved.
But The Full Monty star Carlyle, who played psychopath Begbie, believes Boyle is "edging closer" to the project after sweeping this year's Oscars - and has even offered to work on it for free.
He says, "For me personally, I would jump through hoops of fire backwards for Danny Boyle. I would do Porno tomorrow for nothing.
"Begbie was probably the only character I would ever want to revisit because I do believe that there's an awful lot more mileage there.
"I think there is lots more entertainment to be had from that group of people so I would be up for it, and I know Danny seems to be edging more towards it. After his success at the Oscars, he should be able to pretty much do as he wants." »

One nice thing about trying to find Cinematical worthy clips on YouTube is that if you don't find what you want, you usually find something just as fun. I remember The Full Monty having a delightful montage somewhere after they decide to strip, but I'll be damned if I can find it. However, this scene popped up and soothed my annoyance considerably, while reminding me just how much I enjoyed this movie. (I don't own it on DVD. Criminal!) Plus, there's just nothing funnier than an awkward strip tease, especially when performed by a very ordinary looking fellow like Robert Carlyle. Everything about it is wonderful -- the choice of music, the fact that he believes that's how the professionals do it, the British coinage flying wildly and threatening his audience with bodily harm, and the fact that his son Nathan immediately offers some constructive criticism. I can never believe »

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles star Lena Headey is the latest casting addition to HBO's Game of Thrones pilot. The British actress, who played Sarah Connor for the show's two seasons as well as Queen Gorga in Zack Snyder's 300, will play Queen Cersei in Thrones.
Cersei is married to King Robert (played by The Full Monty's Mark Addy) and is the twin sister of Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and also the older sister to Tyrion (Peter Dinklage). She also has a dark secret that she keeps hidden from the knowledge of her husband: that the father of her three children is her brother Jaime. A fiercely protective mother, she but lives in fear of a prophecy that states each of her offspring will be crowned ruler of the Seven Kingdoms but that they will tragically die within the space of one year and before Cersei herself dies of old age. »

Twilight actor Robert Pattinson has dismissed reports he's lending a helping hand to movie stuntman Peter Pedrero for his directorial debut, insisting he has nothing to do with Vauxhall Crossed.
The Hollywood hunk was alleged to be joining singer/actress Dannii Minogue and The Full Monty star Hugo Speer in Pedrero's new British spy film.
But Pattinson is baffled by the claims - because he hasn't signed up for anything with his two-time Harry Potter pal, according to GossipCop.com.
Asked whether Pattinson will be starring in the movie, his representative simply told the website, "No."
Pedrero performed stunts in all the Potter films, as well as James Bond movies Goldeneye and The World Is Not Enough. »
