Ed Norton prefers serious parts

22 October 2009 5:53 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Edward Norton thinks starring in comedy films "blows your credibility out the window".

The 40-year-old actor loved playing the fool in new comic thriller 'Leaves of Grass', even though he usually prefers more serious roles.

The star explained: "I think it was one of the most entertaining movies I've done in a long time. People start laughing right at the top. It's always good when you get a good audience reaction.

"But it blows all your aspirations for dramatic credibility out the window and you just realise how much fun it is to have a room full of people laughing at you."

Edward - who shot to fame in 1996 film 'Primal Fear' - also enjoyed playing identical twins in the film.

He told Parade.com: "It's sort of a hoot because the credits could be Edward Norton stars with Edward Norton. It's my first attempt to actually play »

Edward Norton Prepared For 'Leaves Of Grass' Roles 'Alone In A Room'

'I am very pleased with how seamless it feels,' he says of the film, in which he plays identical twins.

Edward Norton digs the double life. In "Primal Fear" and "Fight Club," he played mild-mannered characters saddled with violent split-personality disorders. And then there's his transformation from Bruce Banner to angry green giant in "The Incredible Hulk."

His latest film, "Leaves of Grass," once again gives Norton the opportunity to indulge his fondness for thespian duality, this time in the roles of identical twins, one an Ivy League philosophy professor, the other a backwoods marijuana grower.

"Most actors will confess, I think, they dream and scrap and claw for one great role," Norton said. "So if you offer them two great roles in the same movie, »

TV Review: Hugh Laurie’s House Shatters M.O. in Sly Season-Six Premiere of ‘House M.D.’

20 September 2009 9:26 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Unrelenting pain, obsessive drug use and chronic hallucinations. Yeah, House has a problem. He’s broken. But can he be fixed? And will he let himself?

Television Rating: 4.5/5.0 For the first time, Dr. Gregory House is embracing denial no more. In the undeniably worth-your-time two-hour Fox premiere of season six of “House M.D” on Monday, Golden Globe winner Hugh Laurie instead shatters his M.O. by admitting his addiction to the narcotic painkiller Vicodin. He works on a drug detox as he tries to win jurisdiction over his hallucinations.

This time, calling the season opener an “epic premiere event” isn’t just the marketing folks blowing smoke up your whoopie cake. And this time, House mostly doesn’t step foot in a hospital where he usually plays the mastermind and callous doctor. »

Opinion: Primal Fear

13 September 2009 12:53 PM, PDT | Kasterborous.com | See recent Kasterborous news »

Doctor Who has been many things in its time – adventure tale, mystery, comedy and tragedy. However the series has also worked as a fable of sorts; a legend whose tales are grounded in the moral tradition of right vs wrong, good vs evil. Season 11’s finale Planet of the Spiders is a prime example of this approach, featuring major characters searching for peace of mind, clarity and understanding of past mistakes in their lives – positive psychological journeys used in tandem... »

[DVD Review] Fracture

6 July 2009 11:34 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

When Grisham was king of the novel-to-movie adaptation, a title stolen briefly from the hands of Stephen King, law dramas would hit theaters every year and would consistently entertain. As the Hollywood system is wont to do, the introduction of Grisham-films to the theatrical sphere spurred a mass exodus of other legal dramas from the page to the screen. But then there was a lull. It seemed for quite a while that stories about court cases were best shown on television – or maybe it was that audiences were inundated with Law & Order spin-offs to the point that no one wanted to pay to see them in theaters – who knows. The point is, when Fracture rolled around in 2007 it actually seemed fresh. Absence truly does make the heart grow fonder.

But the heart is fickle; or rather, the heart isn’t so easily fooled by the peak-a-boo antics of a film genre. »

Primal Fear on Blu-Ray

20 April 2009 9:47 AM, PDT | www.canmag.com | See recent CanMag news »

Wow, so Primal Fear is considered one of Paramount.s hot catalog titles. It is the first major appearance of Edward Norton and a decent twisty thriller, but still don.t they have Grease and Saturday Night Fever? Oh well, if they want to put out a special edition of Primal Fear, I.ll look at the Blu Ray.

On Blu-Ray: Primal Fear

To the extent that there are visuals in the movie, the Blu Ray looks good. It.s not quite harsh reality with gritty faces, but for Hollywood lawyers and suspects it.s sharp and clear. Maybe I.m just being harsh because it.s so surreal to see the supporting cast 12 years younger in such high quality. »

Primal Fear - DVD Review

18 March 2009 9:48 AM, PDT | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Primal Fear is the film that put Edward Norton on the way to stardom. He has Leonardo DiCaprio dropping out to thank for that. However, the film also features a great performance from Richard Gere and other cast members, as well as a serpentine mystery. Showboating, egotistical Chicago attorney Martin Vail (Richard Gere) takes on the case of Aaron Stampler (Edward Norton). Stampler is accused of brutally murdering the city.s Archbishop Rushman (Stanley Anderson), but he professes that he loved and admired the victim and has instances of blackouts. The trial begins and Vail finds that his ex-lover of his, Janet Venable (Laura Linney), is prosecuting. We also find out that the archbishop wasn.t exactly the pious »

DVD Review - Primal Fear: Hard Evidence Edition -- Truth, who needs that in our judicial system?

11 March 2009 | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

I saw this movie back in 1996 when it first came out and was immediately blown away by Edward Norton’s performance as the stuttering altar boy on trial for the brutal murder of a local Catholic Archbishop. And apparently so was everyone else in Hollywood because it garnered Norton his first Academy Award Nomination, not bad for his first major motion picture. Re-watching this film more than a decade later I’m really happy to say it still is just as good as I remember. Before I get into any specifics, if you haven’t seen this film go buy or rent it, it’s one of the best legal thrillers I’ve ever seen. Don’t read any further because there may be some plot points given away, you should just trust me and watch it!! Possible Spoiler Warning!! The plot follows defense attorney Martin Vail (Richard Gere) who »

Allen Gardner

Let The Right One In (Magnolia) An awkward 12 year-old boy, ignored by his mother and the target of bullies, finds himself drawn to his new neighbor: a girl his own age who only appears at night, and seems herself to be as lonely an outcast as he. Haunting film from Sweden is best described as The 400 Blows meets Nosferatu, and contains some of the most haunting imagery of any film in recent memory. Truly a unique and memorable work. Bonuses: Deleted scenes; Featurette; Photo and poster gallery. Widescreen. Dolby 5.1 surround.

Paramount Centennial Collection Paramount offers two more classic titles, restored, remastered and loaded with extras. [DVD Review] Primal Fear

5 March 2009 2:41 PM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Back in the day before every award season became seemingly bogged down with somber, serious holocaust dramas and the Oscar-baiting music industry biopic, the quickest way to the top of the prestige ladder circa mid-nineties was via the courtroom drama. There was no surer way to garner critical acclaim and mass audience swooning than a fist pounding "objection" on a mahogany legal bench. As Nicholson famously espoused, we "can't handle the truth," but as an audience, before syndicated cable TV beat the concept to death, we were suckers for it. Enter: Primal Fear.

High-class Chicago attorney Martin Vail (Richard Gere) believes in the letter and the spirit of the law. It doesn't matter to him if his defendant is a mob racketeer suing the state on a trumped up police brutality beef, it's all about the principle (and 40% of any settlement, of course). A Catholic Archbishop is brutally hacked to death in his mansion, »

Blu-ray Review: Primal Fear

24 February 2009 1:58 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Primal Fear is one of those films I felt I was the only one that liked it. So, when a brand new special edition release comes out on DVD and Blu-ray simultaneously with all brand-new featurettes it caught me a bit off guard. I felt there was no way these featurettes were going to be of any real substance. I mean, this is a film from 1996 and I never hear anyone talk about it. Yet, this is a release you must pick up if you are one of those closet fans and especially if you have never seen it because this film blows the doors off. For those that don't know this was Ed Norton's first feature film and really served as a breakout role for Laura Linney who had been in a few films prior but Primal Fear ensured her status as a great actress. On top of those two, »
