Mr. Vampire is a combination of horror, comedy, and wonderfully choreographed martial arts that seems to work well on all levels. I actually saw this in the Thai movie "Dorm" as it was being shown to a group of boys on "movie night" and it looked interesting, so I found out what it was and got it. There's a man who has re-buried his father so that there will be luck for his family, as his fortune teller told him so. Hmm, his father looks rather fresh when dug up, perhaps because he's a vampire? Of course, you know, no good can come of this, and soon the vampire is on the loose and has killed this man and infected another with toxins. The comedy is rather silly at times, but the slapstick comedy is combined with highly-choreographed Kung Fu and is a wonder to behold at times. There's also a side-story of another young man who has been bewitched by a ghost, and he is helped to break free of her spell. This is a very likable and highly entertaining film & is recommended to fans of Asian cinema, especially the hyper-kinetic Hong Kong variety. 8 out of 10.
