We lost count of exactly how many sequels there were to the werewolf classic The Howling. The troubled series has seen marsupials, freakshows, and even big-breasted sibling werewolves. Just when you thought it was over, the franchise is reborn!
At this year's Afm (you know, the little event that has been dominating our headlines as of late) Moonstone Entertainment announced that writer/director Joe Nimziki is attached to The Howling Reborn. Nimziki's only film credit to date that we've been able to dig up is a 1997 episode of the re-imagined "The Outer Limits" television series.
Check out Shock Till You Drop for a look at the very familiar sales art, and relive the good old days with the trailer for the Joe Dante classic below!

While perusing the halls at Afm this week, ShockTillYouDrop came across a rather interesting new poster for a sequel that we've never heard of until today. It's called The Howling Reborn and is, supposedly, a sequel or remake or reboot of The Howling, the classic werewolf movie from 1981 that was directed by Joe Dante. That original film spawned some six sequels and created the Howling legacy. The last one, titled Howling: New Moon Rising, arrived on DVD in 1995. This is the first time we've heard of this, though that poster looks quite a bit like the original poster. Is this some straight-to-dvd rip off or something more? The poster says that Joe Nimziki, a first-time director with only one credit on "The Outer Limits", is writing and directing The Howling Reborn. The film was being sold at Afm by Moonstone Entertainment, a production/distribution company with a filmography that includes »

The Howling legacy lives on in a new project being flaunted at the American Film Market by Moonstone Entertainment. The below sales poster was on display with writer-director Joe Nimziki attached. His credits to date include one thing and one thing only, a 1997 episode of the rebooted The Outer Limits . At what stage in development the film is in is unknown. Original Howling director Joe Dante has said in the past that he's been courted for a remake in the past and there are interested parties, but nothing has come to fruition. Moonstone Entertainment is also repping the Stephen King adaptation From a Buick 8 . »

Happy Halloween, Collider readers. Being the kind of guy I am, I’ve decided to forgo the tricks this year and offer up some treats. Specifically, some exclusive coverage of this year’s AFI Fest in Hollywood. Tonight that means two reviews of some of my most anticipated films that made their debuts over the last two nights. First up, we’ve got Wes Anderson’s “The Fantastic Mr. Fox”, followed by Joe Dante’s “The Hole”. Hit the jump to check them out.
First things first, “The Fantastic Mr. Fox” is oh so much more than its marketing would have you believe. Yes, the trailer is funny and gives you a hint of the film’s tone, but it shows nothing of the character and genuine emotion that the very talented animators were able to coax from those little puppets. This is where this film stands apart from the »

It's not every week you talk to a legend in this industry. That's just what we did earlier this week when we sat down with producer Roger Corman to talk about his latest venture: the Netflix web series Splatter . The first episode made its debut yesterday and two more are planned with director Joe Dante ( The Howling ) at the helm. Click "play" below to hear Corman and star Corey Feldman talk about Splatter 's origins, Feldman's character "Johnny Splatter" and how the series lives up to its name! »

Before I launch into the conclusion of my 50 Influential Scream Queens (read part 1 here), please let me remind you that this list is based upon my personal taste, and my personal taste alone. I didn't poll 100 Fango readers, the Fango staff or any other form of 'industry professionals'. It's all opinion, so if you feel I've wronged a certain actress by excluding them from the list, don't leap to brand the entire Fango crew 'vile'. I probably just don't personally find their work to be that influential. Either that or I'm just ignorant to their accomplishments!
25. Mia Farrow: Mia's genre work may be a bit limited, but that doesn't change the fact that Rosemary's Baby will forever be regarded as one of the creepiest films in history. Farrow's portrayal of Rosemary Woodhouse is harrowing to say the least, and will always remain (in my mind) one of the best performances the genre has seen. »

From its synth-heavy opening song and freeze-frame-filled beginning credits, Ti West’s The House of the Devil is a loving, respectful ode to the horror films of the 1970s and '80s. But don’t expect to get a warm, fuzzy feeling from all that affection; The House of the Devil is a gory, eerie film that doesn’t follow the templates set up by recent remakes of period favorites such as Halloween, Friday the 13th, and My Bloody Valentine. Instead of repackaging a familiar tale for contemporary audiences, director Ti West’s film revisits the era in a surprisingly fresh and authentic way.
Bearing a striking resemblance to Suspiria-era Jessica Harper, newcomer Jocelin Donahue plays Sam, a New England college student desperate for rent money so she can escape her roommate from hell. When she sees ads for a babysitter around campus, she thinks she may have found her salvation. »

Know who we love? Dee Wallace that's who. So much so that we couldn't resist hanging with her for a bit and getting her view on her long and amazing career. Get ready to spend a few minutes with one very classy horror-loving lady!
In this exclusive interview actress and author Dee Wallace talks about working with many of the giants of modern genre cinema -- including Peter Jackson (The Frighteners), Steven Spielberg (E.T.), and Joe Dante (The Howling) -- as well as up-and-comer Rob Zombie (Halloween) and reliable craftsman Lewis Teague (Cujo).
That truly is an incredible resume of directors and films. Dee's got a lot to say about how she went from being cast as psychos to supermoms, the kinds of roles available for actresses over a certain age in Hollywood, and why the genre needs to respect itself in order to be worthy of our attention. Netflix, Inc., (Nasdaq: Nflx) the world's largest online movie rental service, today announced it is collaborating with renowned horror filmmaker Roger Corman (“Little Shop of Horrors,” “Pit and the Pendulum”) on a series of Internet Webisodes scheduled to debut two days before Halloween. Anyone in America can instantly watch the Webisodes at www.netflix.com/splatter. In a plot twist, Mr. Corman, making his Internet video debut at age 83, is opening up the creative direction of the series by asking the public to vote on the fate of its characters.
Entitled “Splatter,” the Webisodes were conceived and produced by Mr. Corman, co-produced by Julie Corman (“Box Car Bertha,” “The Westing Game”), directed by horror auteur Joe Dante (“Gremlins,” “The Howling”) and star Corey Feldman (“Lost Boys,” “Stand By Me”) in the title role of rocker Johnny Splatter. Legendary low budget auteur Roger Corman has reunited with his protege Joe Dante for a three-episode Netflix exclusive, Splatter. According to Collider.com, Corman's wife Julie will co-produce and Dante will direct Corey Feldman as title character Johnny Splatter. Here's an excerpt from the press release:
“Splatter is the haunting tale of rock-and-roll legend Johnny Splatter, a musical genius who accumulated as many hit records as he did enemies on his climb up the fame ladder. His sudden death, ruled a suicide, brings a small circle of professional parasites and hangers-on to his Hollywood Hills mansion for the reading of his last will and testament. But as his “frenemies” come to pick the bones clean, Johnny has returned for a deadly encore long after what they thought was his final curtain.”
Joe Dante is one of my favorite genre directors, and he learned the ropes under Corman before going on »

Roger Corman is back. True, he’s been producing up a storm in recent years but movies like “Dino Croc,” “Scorpius Gigantus” and “Death Race” (yes, the one with Jason Statham), are not of the same quality as his earlier work. However, the man who first introduced the voracious Audrey Jr. in “The Little Shop of Horrors” is once again ready to show audiences a good time. Corman, in association with Netflix, has produced a three webisode long series, “Splatter,” for the movie rental giant. Joining him on the project are co-producer Julie Corman (”The Westing Game”), director Joe Dante (”Gremlins,” “The Howling”) and…wait for it…actor Corey Feldmen (”The Lost Boys”) in the titular role of rock ‘n roller Johnny Splatter. If you want to know what goes “bump” in the night, hit the jump.

Halloween is coming, and fright flicks are everywhere at repertory houses and special showings. Joining the screening events we previously listed here and here are more big-screen revivals of classic fear films, plus a couple of East Coast Zombie Walks!
• Canadian undead fans can take part in the 7th Annual Toronto Zombie Walk, which takes place Saturday, October 24 beginning at 3 p.m. This one starts at Trinity Bellwoods Park (meeting place is the pit between Dundas Street and, appropriately enough, Gore Vale Avenue) and ends at the Bloor Cinema (506 Bloor Street West), where the festivities continue with a Cinema of the Dead double feature of Thom Eberhardt’s Night Of The Comet and Lucio Fulci’s Zombie. Admission to the movies is $16 for ghouls and $20 for regular humans; more info on the Walk can be seen here, and on the screenings here.
• This year’s official New York City Zombie Crawl takes place Sunday, »

Today is Columbus Day, a federal holiday when people are meant to take some time to reflect on the 1492 arrival of Christopher Columbus in the New World, the continents now known as North and South America. Most people just use the free day to brunch, shop and chill, but it's really one of those half holidays where only certain members of the gainfully employed community actually have the time off.
Still, the message of exploration, discovery, is always worth reflecting on. There are few untouched regions left on this planet, so discovery has become more of a scientific pursuit than a geographical one. The joy of being the first to lay eyes on a new land somehow remains relatable however; cinema especially has never shied away from themes of exploration and discovery, even in its earliest days. After the jump you'll see some examples of our favorite discovery flicks.

We recently published Glenn Kay's interview with Joe Dante discussing the full details on his upcoming film The Hole (read it here). Now, Jason Anders caught up with the director to go back even further. All the way back to 1978, and the recently remade Piranha...
Jason Anders/Fangoria: Let's start with one of your earliest films, 1978's Piranha; what originally inspired you to become involved in filmmaking, and what roads led to you directing one of your first motion pictures, which garnered the respect of major Hollywood names like Steven Spielberg? Also, tell me about the challenges you faced on the production of this film, which was shot in just 30 days.
Joe Dante: I had originally planned to become a cartoonist; it was only during art school that I came to realize I was more inclined toward filmmaking. This was the mid-'60s when the idea of "film school »

I'm not telling you anything you don't already know here, but werewolves kind of kick ass. They are tragic figures, afflicted with a disease that causes them to turn into mindless, slavering beasts beneath the light of a full moon. Vampires have their own share of tragedy, but they keep it well-hidden behind layers of cunning and deceit. Werewolves are just poor souls who've been victimized by bad luck.
Today's eBay Prop-Watch is all about paying some love to the werewolves. One pack in particular, featured in director Joe Dante's classic "The Howling." Most of these werepuppies aren't tragic figures; they're awesome figures. Just like today's Prop-Watch pick.
Badass, right? It's a full-size, three-piece werewolf outfit "modeled after the character played by Eddie Quist." I can't tell if that means this is a replica or not, but there's no mention in the description of a certificate of authenticity. As »
