In 1955 Kurt Hoffmann made his charming "Ich denke oft an Piroschka", based on the novel by Hugo Hartung. The credits of "Ferien mit Piroschka" say that motives of Hartung's novel were used again, but this is just not true: the makers only used the name Piroschka (and gave it to a doll!) and probably hoped to use Hoffmann"s film as a recommendation for their own. They came up with an incredibly "dis-charming" film, a hotchpot of romance, farce, German arrogance (tourists in Hungary), Nazi presence in Hungary, the cold war etc. etc., without all this ever being an unity. It is badly acted, directed and edited, with Götz George in another of his bad parts and director's wife Tordai a very boring female lead. Nice gypsy music and dances cannot save the viewer from getting drunk on plenty of Hungarian wine to endure this film.
