This is the only Sean Connery-era Bond film without the villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld or his organisation SPECTRE (SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion). In a retcon, Goldfinger is linked to SPECTRE in the video-game GoldenEye: Rogue Agent (2004) (VG). more

I am a fan of Roger Moore's interpretation of 007 James Bond but I do feel I must give a lot of credit to Sean Connery for his excellent portrayal of Bond in Goldfinger. In my opinion Goldfinger is one of the best films of the Connery era and is certainly superior to Dr. No and From Russia With Love.
Bond fans will love this movie. Bond fans like the series because of the gadgets, the girls, the cars, the villains, the humour and the action. This Bond film had all that...and more.
In the film Bond goes up against gold smuggler Auric Goldfinger played by the late Gert Frobe. Goldfinger is a great villain equal to Blofeld in my opinion. He is joined by the mute Oddjob played by the late Harold Sakata. Oddjob is an invincible and deadly bodyguard who gives Bond a real run for his money.
The dialogue in this film is superb. In one scene Bond is strapped to a table with a laser heading for his groin. He asks Goldfinger, "Do you expect me to talk?" "No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die," replies Goldfinger. It certainly was a tense scene as the laser headed for Bond's groin area.
Connery is great in this film. His humour is just brilliant; always defying danger and death with a sarcastic comment. As for the fight scene in Fort Knox between Bond and Oddjob, well it was a fantastic scene and credit must go to both actors for it.
I would be committing a crime if I didn't mention Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore. She is probably the most intriguing of all the Bond girls and she isn't one of those typical Bond girls who caters to 007's whims.
All in all, a classic Bond film. I would recommend heading to the video store and buying it to keep.
