Fun Stuff

Trivia:

At the film's premiere, as the movie neared its third hour with the end not yet in sight, comedian Mort Sahl stood up from his seat in the packed theater and shouted, "Otto, let my people go!" The incident quickly became a popular piece of Hollywood lore. more

Goofs:

Factual errors: After the operation on Ari Ben Canaan, his heart stops. Kitty withdraws medicine with a syringe and then pushes on the plunger to remove air in the syringe. During the insertion of the syringe, her hands are moving around too much not to cause damage to the heart. Then she pulls back on the plunger before pushing on it to inject the medicine. This is not proper procedure. more

Quotes:

[first lines]
Cypriot guide: The island of Cyprus, madame. World famous for beauty, and long, tragic history. Been conquered many times, conquered by Phoenicians, Assyrians, Persians, Macedonians; also conquered by Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Turks. Purchased from Turkey by your esteemed self, the British Empire. All Cyprus most wanted the British.
Kitty Fremont: [correcting him] I'm an American.
Cypriot guide: Fond of Americans, also; we Cypriots are fond of everybody.

A must see now more than ever, 10 July 2003
10/10
Author: ss5921 from Baltimore, Maryland

Paul Newman leads a terrific cast in a very moving and important movie, one which should be revisited by all who lack a feel for what that region of the world is REALLY like. It is a timeless movie that is not shown very often and should be shown regularly.
