Fun Stuff

Trivia:

The "Fountain Pen Sketch" was taken from the hit musical (over 400 performances) that opened in New York in 1948, and starred Sid Caesar. Max Showalter, who performs that specialty number in this movie, was also in that opening night cast playing the same role, as well as others. more

Milton Berle Was a Classic, 6 December 2004
9/10
Author: drednm2004 from United States

This is his only starring film and he is excellent in it. Basically playing himself, Mr. Television plays a struggling comic, trying to make the big time in New York. Berle does several hilarious skits, some purposely awful ones, and easily

carries the film. Berle was a great comic and he could act. Like many of his

comic contemporaries (Red Skelton, Jackie Gleason, George Burns, Jack

Benny) Berle had a tragic side he could mine for dramatic work. Also good in

this snappy film are Bert Lahr, Ruth Roman, Virginia Mayo, Alan Hale, Lloyd

Gough, and Grace Hayes. Iris Adrian is a scream as Ruth Roman's brassy

partner. Best bit is Berle's impromptu comedy act in the middle of some god- awful Bavarian operetta..... Just try NOT to laugh during this hysterical scene. I also think Berle's "Miss Otis Regrets" tryout is a classic. I love Milton Berle and this film deserves to be seen.
