• Cedric Burnside and Kenny Brown, the members of Lazarus' band, are the grandchildren of legendary (but relatively unknown) blues singer R.L. Burnside. They played in his band while he toured up until his death in 2005. Additionally, the reverend (played by John Cothran Jr.) is named R.L. On a side note, features of Lazarus (played by Samuel L. Jackson), such as his hair and his history with the Juke Joint, are remarkably similar to Burnside's.
  
  
• The electric guitar that Lazarus plays is a Gibson ES-335.

• The title of the film derives from the Blind Lemon Jefferson song recorded in 1927.
  
  
• Christina Ricci wore an actual forty pound chain during filming. Craig Brewer brought various different chains on the set and told Ricci to choose the one that suited her best.
  
  
• The panties Christina Ricci wore in the film were bought by herself at Dillard's department store. She also contributed cowboy boots, a Wrangler jacket, and a pair of shorts from her own closet.
  
  
• Samuel L. Jackson learned to play the guitar for this film, while completing production of Snakes on a Plane (2006).
