Samuel L. Jackson talks “The Spirit”

19 August 2008 6:59 PM, PDT | From MovieBlog.Ugo.com | See recent Ugo MovieBlog news

During an interview for his new film Lakeview Terrace this morning, Samuel L. Jackson was asked about his upcoming film The Spirit.  At first he laughed and said he’d tell us about that in November, but he quickly relented and gave us his opinion about the style of the film.  (While I tried to resist the urge to pull out my iPhone and show him the purple phone saber...I’m sure I’d be the first.) “It’s a cartoon.  The movie is a cartoon.  To me.  I don’t know what everybody else is gonna think it is, but to me it’s a cartoon.  I mean, we do Wile E. Coyote kind of stuff.  You know, I hit him in the head with a toilets.  We’ve got wrenches as big as this room.  Bam!  I hit him with the wrench and he gets up.  We’re both pretty much indestructible.

Warners Goes Deeper, Bluer

19 August 2008 12:41 AM, PDT | From DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news

I can’t believe we’re sitting here, months later, and still worrying about an actor’s strike. The writer’s strike was bad enough; why do we have to go through this again? Can't Hollywood set aside its differences so Deep Blue Sea 2 can finally be made!?

Moviehole has learned through some insider sources at Warner Bros. that the studio’s direct-to-dvd line plans to bring the wicked smart sharks back to the small screen. A minuscule budget will likely be in place so at best they might get L.L. “My Hat is Like a Shark’s Fin” Cool J back, but don't hold your proverbial breath. They’ll never top Sam Jackson getting eaten by a terrible CG shark, but I do hope they try.

Right now there are only writers attached to Deep Blue Sea 2, but Warners apparently wants this thing out next year so expect

Review: "The Star Wars: The Clone Wars"

17 August 2008 5:09 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Seen on: August 16, 2008

The players: Director: Dave Filoni, Writers: Henry Gilroy, Steven Melching, Scott Murphy, Cast (Voices): Matt Lanter, Ashley Eckstein, James Arnold Taylor, Dee Bradley Baker, Tom Kane, Christopher Lee, Samuel L. Jackson

Facts of interest: It's the first "Star Wars" flick not released by 20th Century Fox.

The plot: Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi set out to secure a crucial treaty with Jabba the Hutt.

Our quick thoughts: “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” proves the force is no longer with George Lucas. The Dave Filoni-directed animated feature offers viewers nothing they haven’t seen yet in past “Star Wars” flicks, suffering from weak storytelling and a bunch of incredibly monotonous action sequences. Indeed, things are not like they used to be in the galaxy far, far away…

17 August 2008 7:10 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Thousands of mourners, including actor Samuel L. Jackson and comic Chris Rock, gathered for the funeral of U.S. funnyman Bernie Mac on Saturday.

Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer and Reverend Jesse Jackson were among those who attended the service at the House of Hope church in Chicago, Illinois, where more than 6,000 fans and locals crowded outside to bid their final farewells.

Jackson, who recently filmed the movie Soul Men with Mac, remembered him as "that kid from Chicago who wanted to make everybody laugh".

He added: "He never turned down that kid for an autograph."

A slideshow of photos from the star's life was played on video screens and letters of condolence from children, TV host Oprah Winfrey and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama were read aloud.

The Chicago White Sox organisation, Mac's beloved baseball team, presented his widow Rhonda with a jersey bearing his name and the number one.

Mac died on Saturday aged 50 after losing his battle with pneumonia.

Movie Review - 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars'

15 August 2008 12:23 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Featuring the voices of Matt Lanter, James Arnold Taylor, and Samuel L. Jackson

Directed by Dave Filoni

Rated PG

Although it sports crystal clear digital animation and some of the imagination that powered the franchise in its first two films, there are elements of Star Wars: The Clone Wars that casual fans might not warm up to. To a die hard Lucasian – the sort of devotee who will see this on opening night with light sabers on his utility belt – this could be a vital and vibrant new beginning. However, a lot of those fans have already seen an animated Clone Wars, so they, too, may be wondering what the score is here.

In terms of chronology, The Clone Wars falls between Episode II and Episode III in the saga. Jedi masters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker are assisting the Galactic Republic in its battle against the seceding star systems,

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Review

14 August 2008 10:41 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Short version: The Clone Wars is visually interesting, but in the end pointless - and worse: annoying.

Screen Rant reviews The Clone Wars

Holy cow there’s a lot of… angst? anger? annoyance? surrounding the latest addition to the Star Wars saga: The Clone Wars. Me, I’m indifferent. I’m not a huge Star Wars fan (although I was when the first three movies were released for the first time) and I think that George Lucas has run the franchise into the ground and it’s all about:

1. Visual Effects

2. Merchandising

3. Money (see #2)

The Clone Wars takes place between Star Wars episodes 2 & 3, covering the most intense part of the fabled “Clone Wars” first mentioned by Obi-Wan Kenobi way back in 1977 in the original Star Wars film. Therefore we have Anakin Skywalker (destined to become Darth Vader) still playing the hero and a young Obi-Wan Kenobi no longer teaching Anakin

'The Spirit' Isn't Impressing Anyone with Its Trailers

13 August 2008 2:20 PM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

It seems the online fanboy verdict on Frank Miller's The Spirit is out and the film doesn't even hit theaters for another 4 months. The footage from Comic Con that got absolutely no one excited has found it's way online and I can see now why people didn't enjoy it. The supposed humor put forth in the clip just isn't funny and it appears comedy is the goal of the clip, which makes the action utterly worthless. Not helping the situation are the trailers for the film that make it look like a Sin City knock-off and considering it isn't Sin City, that poses a bit of a problem. I will admit the latest trailer that just hit the Net is probably the best one yet, but after reading the synopsis and its focus on the hero character The Spirit versus the villainous Octopus (Sam Jackson) I can't understand why

Mariah and Her Bikinis Head on Honeymoon No. 2 With Nick

13 August 2008 10:00 AM, PDT | From Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news

After celebrating their wedding again with a lavish Hamptons party over the weekend, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon headed off on Honeymoon No. 2, this time to Italy. The Saturday night soiree was hosted by La Reid and attended by celebrity guests including Gwyneth Paltrow, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Ripa and Samuel L. Jackson and got so wild it even included a visit from the cops after a noise complaint. From there, it was right off to yachting in Italy for the newlyweds — on a boat that apparently has lots of fitness equipment. Rightfully, it looks like this vacation was more about that wine in hand and splashing around than keeping those figures looking so great. Splash News Online

Carey's Post-Wedding Fantasy Comes True

12 August 2008 12:04 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Mariah Carey and new husband Nick Cannon reportedly celebrated their nuptials at a star-studded post-wedding party at the weekend, thanks to her record boss Antonio 'L.A.' Reid.

The couple wed in the Bahamas in April after a six-week whirlwind romance, and have reportedly been desperate to celebrate their union with a lavish ceremony.

And Carey's post-wedding fantasy was finally realised after Def Jam Records chairman Reid put together the party at his Long Island, New York home on Saturday, according to the New York Post.

A source tells the newspaper Reid "did it up" for the star, hiring a massive team to co-ordinate the event.

The extravagant celebrations were so exuberant, Carey's rowdy celebrity guests - including Gwyneth Paltrow, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Ripa, Samuel L. Jackson and Star Jones - allegedly prompted a call to police after neighbours complained of noise when the party passed midnight.

Cannon and Carey are reportedly continuing their own celebration, spending the remainder of the week at a farm in East Hampton, New York, that they have rented for $125,000 (GBP62,500).

Sam Jackson Has The Hots For Afro Samurai

8 August 2008 12:14 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

MTV News recently spoke with Samuel L. Jackson and took the opportunity to pick his brain about everything Afro Samurai. The cult-hit anime series currently has a second season on the way, as well as a video game adaptation that was previewed at Comic-Con ‘08, which some thumb-jockeys are already calling “sick.”

With Afro Samurai poised to become the next big smash in anime, it’s no surprise that Jackson is already talking about a live-action film based on the series.

“We have a live-action plan,” Jackson revealed, saying that he wants to see Afro’s battle with Number One up on the big screen with flesh-and-blood actors. “Hopefully, that script will come together and we’ll be able to do that in the next two years or so.”

Nice. And since Jackson is also the executive producer of the TV series, he probably has the clout to make an Afro Samurai movie a reality.
