DVD Review: Family Guy Season 8

One of our readers, Duncan was tasked with reviewing Family Guy season 8 for us. Check out his thoughts below….

I’ve always been a huge fan of Family Guy since it first aired in 1999 and I am quite proud it has survived into its eighth season. I had a lot of expectation and this season does not disappoint. I think Family Guy’s best attributes are it’s cut away gags and they come thick and fast here. They are more frequent, funny and close to the mark compared to previous seasons. I just don’t know how they keep coming up with them. For Fg fans, or for those just simply interested in a bit of a laugh, then every season is a must buy. Very few episodes disappoint throughout the entire show, and thankfully, Season 8 is no exception.

Trailer: Furry Vengeance

Brendan Fraser’s got a new movie coming out with Harrison Ford in February called Extraordinay Measures but this new move, Furry Vengeance is of the more comedic nature!

Furry Vengeance stars Brendan Fraser and Brooke Shields and is directed by Roger Kumble. It’s scheduled for release 7th May and from the trailer which you can view below or in HD on Apple, Fraser continues to do what he does best, making us (some of us!) laugh.

Synopsis: A live action family comedy in which an ambitious young real estate developer, Dan Sanders, faces off with a band of angry animals when his new housing subdivision pushes too far into a pristine part of the wilderness. Led by an incredibly clever raccoon, the animals stymie the development and teach our hero about the environmental consequences of man’s encroachment on nature.

Robin Hood: Prince of 3D?

With Avatar gaining almost unanimous praise for its use of 3D in bringing a truly immersive cinematic experience it has the potential to prove once and for all that 3D is on its way to becoming a default option for all big studio releases.

AICN (via TheWrap) have a roundup of new and future 3D related rumours with Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood film the next big thing to be getting the third dimension.

One of the recurring themes in Avatar reviews is that of a truly unique, and importantly cinematic, experience. You will not see the same film at home, no matter how big your TV, or how sharp your Blu-ray resolution; Avatar is one of the first films in a long time that is being touted as the future of cinema – meaning that if studios and director can bring people into the cinemas with something that they can »

New Photos from Chloe

Rising star Amanda Seyfried has another movie coming out on 5th March called Chloe. Jon saw the movie at the London Film Festival and you can read his review here.

A new gallery of photos comes to us courtesy of Filmofilia. I’ve placed the gallery below the synopsis. Click the images to enlarge.

Synopsis: Chloe also stars Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore and tells the story of what seems to be a married couple in the form of Catherine (Moore) and David (Neeson). Seemingly happily married with a talented teenage son, they appear to have an idyllic life. But when David misses a flight and his surprise birthday party, Catherine’s long simmering suspicions rise to the surface.

Suspecting infidelity, she decides to hire an escort (Seyfried) to seduce her husband and test his loyalty. Catherine finds herself ‘directing’ Chloe’s encounters with David, and Chloe’s end of »

New Inception Trailer Hits

A new trailer for Inception has been released and it looks amazing. The shot of the buildings folding up into the air is incredible and with more of the story being revealed Inception is looking every bit the Christopher Nolan revolutionary action film we are hoping for.

I for one can’t wait to see Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt facing off in this fascinating anything-goes gobsmacker of a film and with Nolan pushing IMAX to its limits; Inception is going straight to the top of my films-to-see of 2010.

See below for the trailer, then watch it again and again. Or click on this link to revel in the HD version from Apple.

James Cameron ‘Terminates’ fan request for Autograph

28 December 2009 4:57 AM, PST

After a gruelling Avatar press tour that covered three out of the four corners of the earth, James Cameron has been caught on camera being welcomed back to the capital of the movie world by more than the usual fanfare of screams, shouts outs and photo requests. This time the visual record shows the side of a fan and director that definitely did not fulfill the festive cheer. Set your bo-peepers on this…

This whole thing reminds me of the time I met Bruce Campbell of ‘Evil Dead’ fame and asked for his autograph. The difference being was that I was forking out hard earned money for his signature at a film convention, hence I was justified in my request as I was paying for the pleasure of a genuine scrawl. What wasn’t justified was that I wanted my full size replica ‘Army of Darkness’ custom made chainsaw, shipped »

Blu-Ray Review: Battlestar Galactica Complete Series

27 December 2009 5:00 PM, PST

I hate to say it, but I was late to the Battlestar Galactica party.  I watched part of the mini series when it aired, but for some reason, didn’t pick it up when the series started.

I just recently watched the series in it’s entirety.  Then I went back and watched it again from beginning to end on Blu Ray.  And now, I’m watching it for a third time.  It takes a lot for me to proclaim that a show is my favorite of all time.  The only other show I’ve really done that with was the X-Files.  I ended up having to retract that title after the fifth season.

But in all honesty, I can say that BSG is by far, my favorite show.  On one hand I’m sad it’s ended but on the other I’m glad it did.  They didn’t »

Review: Spread

27 December 2009 4:00 PM, PST

2009 was a fantastic year for film and so i’m expecting an even better year in 2010. Unfortunately the UK film release schedule has been unkind to us with the 1st January releases and Spread is a horrible way to bring in the new decade, fortunately Daybreakers, It’s Complicated and the incredible The Road are out the following week.

Spread is one of those films where you think ‘what was the point of that’ after sitting through about 90 minutes of Ashton Kutcher trying to reach the American Gigolo acting heights of Richard Gere and failing miserably. But what Kutcher did show is that he has found a role as arrogant and obnoxious as himself so it kind of worked for him but did nothing for his acting reputation.

Filmed in the gorgeous setting of La and focusing on the gorgeous people who live there we follow the ugly personality of »
