Two days after the horrific shootings at the Fort Hood military base in Killeen, Texas, details continue to emerge about the suspect, Major Nidal Malik Hasan. The 39-year-old Army psychiatrist opened fire on his fellow soldiers Thursday, according to reports, killing 13 and wounding at least 30 before being shot four times by Sergeant Kimberly Munley, a civilian police officer employed by the Army, who many are praising as a hero who saved countless lives by stopping the rampage.

Hasan, whose job it was to counsel physically and psychologically wounded soldiers returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, was described by those who knew him as a calm, gentle person, but one whose anger was stoked by alleged harassment from some of his Army peers over his Muslim faith.

Rihanna was reflective and revealing throughout her "20/20" interview with Diane Sawyer on Friday night (November 6) as she spoke about her relationship with Chris Brown and explained that abuse was also a part of her upbringing, much like her former boyfriend's.

"I said to myself, 'I'm never gonna date someone like my dad,' " Rihanna told Sawyer. "Never."

The singer said her father was severely abusive to her mother in the past and hit her "numerous" times. She said she would unsuccessfully try to break up their fights, attempting to distract the pair by breaking glasses and dishes in the kitchen. The singer said her father even broke her mother's nose.

New York — The New York Yankees rolled down the Canyon of Heroes in the traditional World Series parade on Friday morning. The city is electric, basking in the glow of the team's 27th World Championship. Along with the 2009 team — featuring Derek Jeter, Johnny Damon, A.J. Burnett, Mark Teixeira, C.C. Sabathia and Hideki Matsui — Bronx Bomber greats from previous Series-winning teams, such as Reggie Jackson and Chris Chambliss, were on hand. Even Jay-z rode a float with Alex Rodriguez. Jay is just one of many New York City-bred musical stars — also including Lady Gaga, Fabolous and Q-Tip — who have been raving about the Yanks.

However, one New Yorker who couldn't be in the city to see the parade is 50 Cent. He's in Miami promoting his forthcoming Before I Self Destruct LP. »

"They were doing some weird hand sign in the form of a triangle" — beloved New York radio personality Craig Carton apparently is not hip to the famed Jay-z Roc-a-Fella hand signal.

Carton was one of the hosts of CBS' broadcast of the World Series-winning New York Yankees' victory parade down Manhattan's Canyon of Heroes. Huge Yankee fan Jay-z actually showed his team pride by getting on the float with one of the team's franchise players, Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez. Throughout the Bronx Bombers' World Series run, Hov has been vocal and active with his love of his favorite Major League team.

Jay was slated to perform "Empire Mind State" with Alicia Keys during the opening game of the World Series last week, but due to inclement weather the duo did not perform until game 2.

There are always plenty of parties in New York on New Year's Eve, but despite the chaos in Times Square, the best shindig is usually at Madison Square Garden. In the past few years, the venue has hosted a high-profile music act to ring in the new year. The spot is typically reserved for jam bands (Phish have hosted legendary marathon shows in the building, while last year's headliner was My Morning Jacket, who jammed their way into 2009), but this year's show will focus on a true superstar: Mariah Carey.

Carey announced that she would be headlining Msg on New Year's Eve via her Twitter and on her Web site on Thursday night.

Richmond, Virginia — Chris Brown has made several media appearances since his assault of Rihanna in February, each time apologizing while declining to speak in detail on the matter. The singer said he was being vague as a way to protect his and his former girlfriend's privacy.

But his deflection of the tough questions has led some to doubt the sincerity of his contrition. In an interview with MTV News' Sway Calloway that airs Friday night (November 6) on MTV, Brown talked about what his many apologies really mean.

"When I apologize, I really apologize, definitely, about the situation, like me and her personally, obviously," Brown said. "We've exchanged, I've exchanged my apologies for her, but when I do it publicly, it's »

In her hit single "Party in the U.S.A.," Miley Cyrus famously claims that a Jay-z song saved her life (or at least made her taxi ride from Lax bearable). But which one of Hov's hits is she singing about?

Turns out, she doesn't know. Because she's never actually heard a Jay-z song.

That's what we learned in a new interview posted on Cyrus' MileyWorld Web site, in which the singer — who, it should be noted, is dressed like Pocahontas (it was backstage, before her Halloween concert in Louisville, Kentucky) — was asked by a reporter which Jay-z tune inspired the line in "Party." And, well, let's just say she answered his question honestly.

Rihanna spoke candidly to Diane Sawyer about falling in love with Chris Brown and the fallout of the February assault in her first sit-down interview since the incident. In the portions of the interview that aired Friday (November 6) on "Good Morning America," the singer blamed the intensity of their relationship on the fact that they were best friends first.

"He was definitely my first big love," Rihanna said. "We were best friends, so we fell in love with each other. To fall in love with your best friend it can be scary because the emotions get... the best of you," she explained. "We just fell really fast, [and] the more in love we became the more dangerous we became for each other, equally dangerous, 'cause it was »

In Rihanna's first sit-down since Chris Brown assaulted her in February, the pop star explained to Diane Sawyer what happened the night that the attack took place, confirming the rumor that it all began over an argument about a text message Brown had received.

"We had a blast that night," she said in the part of the interview that aired on "Good Morning America" Friday (November 6). She went on to describe how the fun night spent at a pre-Grammy party soon escalated into violence after she confronted him about a text message she found from an unknown woman on his phone.

"I caught him in a lie, and he wouldn't tell the truth," she said. "I couldn't take that he kept lying to me. »

One result of Chris Brown and Rihanna's experience this year, from the assault to the aftermath, is that it has helped to open up a dialogue among young people to discuss domestic abuse in teen relationships.

"It's important for anyone to know that if this can happen to Chris Brown and Rihanna, then it can happen to anyone," Dr. Michelle Callahan, a developmental psychologist, told MTV News in a discussion for "Chris Brown: The Interview." "Domestic violence happens in all neighborhoods, regardless of income, city or rural — it doesn't matter, this can happen to anyone at any time. So it's important for kids to also know: Don't be ashamed. Don't be embarrassed. If you're going through something like »
