Sneak Peeks – 30 Rock 4.09 "Klaus and Greta"

James Franco is everywhere on TV these days.  After a much-publicized stint on General Hospital (which may or may not be done yet – I'm a little behind on my soaps right now), he's making a guest appearance on the January 14th episode of 30 Rock.  NBC has released four sneak peeks and a short synopsis of the episode, which you can view below.  If only we could all take back a drunken New Year's Eve mistake.  Or, you know, a drunken Wednesday night mistake.

Jack (Alec Baldwin) Devises A Plan To Take Back A Drunken New Year's Eve Mistake

After a wild New Year's Eve, Jack tries to undo the damage he caused from leaving a drunken message on an ex-lover’s voicemail.

In the meantime, Jenna (Jane Krakowski) pursues a faux relationship with actor James Franco (guest starring) in an attempt to cover up his embarrassing secret.

TV on DVD: January 12, 2009

January 12 is a great day for DVD collecting television fans, because there is one box set that is unmissable — especially if you have the other nineteen sets in the series. Of course, more nostalgic fans will have an option, as will fans of hospital dramas.

The unmissable box set I mentioned earlier was in fact The Simpsons: The Complete Twentieth Season. The animated series is one of television's longest-running, and twenty years is indeed a milestone (Homer and Marge also recently celebrated their 450th episode on January 3rd). The season twenty box set will include all twenty-one episodes of the series over four discs. The DVD edition is marketing on Amazon for $28.99, and the Blu-Ray set for ten dollars higher.

Next up is an also rather long-running, show, though it ended its run last year. The DVD sets for ER are a bit behind, though, and even though season »

'Life Unexpected' Goes to Facebook

The CW's new dramedy Life Unexpected is set to debut on January 18, but don't let that stop you from catching a few scenes of it beforehand. The series, which centers on a fifteen-year-old foster child named Lux, will be posted online a week before the series actually premieres. Well, ten minutes of it will be, at least.

Life Unexpected will center on a girl name Lux (early marketing for the series highlighed the series as Life UneXpected), who finally decides to become an emancipated minor. However, when she goes through the legal system to get her freedom, she comes into contact with her biological father, Baze, a bar owner who didn't even know she existed; and her mother, Cate, a radio show personality who Lux has grown up listening to. The judge rules that Lux is not ready for emancipation, and decides to give join custody to Baze and Cate, »

Is Grunberg Threatening Me With Another Season of Heroes?

I had intended the title of this article to be a bit facetious.  And then I rethought that, because I feel like Grunberg is threatening me.  Look, here's the God-honest truth.  I like Heroes.  Well, I did.  In fact, I loved Heroes.  Back when it knew what to do with its characters (well, at least 95% of them), when it had coherent storylines, when it wasn't using time travel as a convenient (and often forgetable) plot device, when Nathan Petrelli was alive, and when it had a convincing villian who was actually scary and wasn't just sticking around because the guy who played him happens to be a good actor.

Now?  Allow me to use a story to illustrate: this week I forgot that both Heroes and The Good Wife returned (because I am an idiot – despite having written up an entire post about when shows return).  Both were automatically recoded by my DVR. »

Recap – Modern Family 1.11 "Up All Night"

Hello fellow Modern Family watchers!  I will be taking over the recap reins for what is, in my opinion, the funniest new comedy of the season (back away Gleeks and put down the Slushees).  What I love about this show is that even its weaker episodes are still better than most of the comedies on TV, and are still guaranteed to have a number of belly laughs.  For me, the weaker Family episodes are those when the three family units don't interact, like in "Up All Night."  That doesn't mean there wasn't plenty to laugh at, and I did laugh.  But, since the families were kept completely separate last night, let's take their stories separately as well, after we look at the framing for the episode: adults acting like children.

"Up All Night" began with the children answering the question, "What irritating things to parents say to their children? »

Obama To Possibly Bump 'Lost' Premiere?!?!! Wtf?!?!?!?!?

6 January 2010 9:09 PM, PST

As a staunch supporter of Barack Obama, I think he has found a way to make me raise my eyebrow in serious ire…

According to BuddyTV and TV Guide, there is talk that the White House might set the State of The Union on either two dates: Jan. 26 (American Idol premiere) or Feb. 2 (Do I even Need to tell you what premieres on that date?!?!). In other words, either Lost or American Idol will be bumped to a later date. If it's Lost, then it will be Feb. 9 before we can find out what the hell happened after the screen went white last May for our Losties.

The fanbase has already gotten on board and have started a Twitter campaign called #NoStateOfUnionFeb2. I don't care how much you might think American Idol dominates the TV landscape nowadays, but by the evidence shown by Lost fans with Twitter accounts, there is »

Arrrgh: Most Pirated Shows of 2009

6 January 2010 3:04 PM, PST

Each year, website TorrentFreak ranks the most downloaded shows of the last 365 days. Certain shows rank consistently in the top ten, while others make surprising appearances one year, and may drop off the next. Read on to take a look at the top ten most downloaded shows of the year.

First let’s take a look at the list for 2008:

In 2008, Lost reigned supreme. You’ll notice that just because a show tops the most downloaded list, this doesn’t mean no one’s watching. Four shows in 2008’s list manage to top over 10 million viewers.

2009’s list:

While Lost still came in near the top, 2009 saw a new champion in Heroes. If you’re really paying attention, you’ll notice that more people downloaded episodes of Heroes than those who actually watched on NBC. What does this all mean? Well, chances are more likely than not that it »

Photos – The Vampire Diaries 1.11 "Bloodlines"

6 January 2010 9:29 AM, PST

The Vampire Diaries has not had a new episode in 50,000 years.   At least, that's what it's felt like.  So all you Vd fans (heh) will be happy to know that the show returns will all new episodes on January 21st.  Like, Finally!  You can also check out a promo for the new episodes that we previously posted.

The CW has released a few (very few) promo photos for the new episode, along with a synopsis.  It's the synopsis that's the most interesting and I'll tell you why: because I think it debunks most of the rumors that were floating around the internet when the show was on hiatus.  Which I will address in the next paragraph and which may be a bit spoilery – so just skip to the synopsis below if you don't want to read it.

5 January 2010 6:35 PM, PST

It's almost over, folks. Joss Whedon's gone-too-soon series Dollhouse will air its series finale on January 22. The series, cancelled due to low viewership, will leave behind a small but dedicated fanbase, who will certainly love this titular follow-up to the first season's finale, "Epitaph One." It's a dystopian episode, apparently, that will take place in the dark future of 2019, where the technology of the Dollhouse has been turned into a global weapon — and will focus on the efforts and the group of freedom fighters "The Actuals" to take down the threat.

Here's the press release for the episode:
