Predators Director Defends Adrien Brody Casting
11 minutes ago
There was a lot of speculation about who would be cast as the lead in Predators, the Robert Rodriguez-produced, Nimród Antal-directed follow up to the classic John McTiernan / Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick Predator. (Do I really have to spell all that out? Probably not.) When Adrien Brody was announced, more than a few people (including me) went, 'huh?' Now, for the first time since the project began, Antal is talking about the film and his casting choices. Speaking to ComingSoon, Antal says of Brody: "I think when we cast Adrien, there were a lot of people going; 'What?' But at the same time, if we cast a Vin Diesel in that role or if we cast anyone who is Arnold-esque, we would have been attacked for doing that...He plays a mercenary in the film and if you look at the guys in Iraq and Afghanistan today, »

Casting Notes: Donald Trump Cameos in Wall Street 2; Jeremy Piven and Kate Walsh go to Canada
40 minutes ago
Quick, who's the most obvious cameo to have in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps? I guess I've already given it away right there in the headline, but you should have had the answer anyway: Donald Trump. The cameo is so on the nose that I would have disbelieved it if I only read the account from the UK's Daily Mail tabloid. They make stuff up all the time, after all. But there are photos and everything, of Trump with returning star Michael Douglas, and director Oliver Stone. We don't know who Trump plays, but I'd put my money on 'Donald Trump'. Hopefully it'll be nothing but a very brief appearance; I'll have enough trouble looking at Gordon Gekko twenty years later without dealing with the distraction of Trump's hair. Nic Cage has nothing on that guy. After the break, a whole slew of actors join the indie Waska. »

Fan Art: Chris Hemsworth as Thor
We've featured a bunch of Josh Mc's fan art on /Film in the past: You might remember his famous rendering of Ryan Reynolds at the Green Lantern, or Kristen Bell as Harley Quinn and Anne Hathaway as Batgirl. His latest piece takes a look at what Chris Hemsworth might look like in costume as Thor. Josh writes: Perhaps a taste of what’s to come? I’ll find out in a few months if I’m close or not to what ever they end up going with. Been wanting to do this one for a while as we’ve been getting more and more Thor news leaking out, I went more Norse armour-ish and less superhero like. Hit after the jump for the full photo. Check out more of Josh Mc's fan art on FanArtExhibit. Thanks for /Film reader movieboy for the tip. »

Paul Greengrass Quits Bourne 4
If you've been following the very slow development progress on the fourth Bourne film, you know that it is (a) rather surprising that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass agreed to come back and (b) fraught with uncertainty about how best to proceed. The latter has led to a dearth of news, and reading between the lines it has seemed like the involvement of the principals was pretty tenuous. Now the shaky nature of the project is being emphasized by the news that Greengrass has walked away from the film. The Playlist has the exclusive on the story for now, though as they say it's a bit surprising that this hasn't been a trade break. Quick recap of the history of the film: Damon and Greengrass did Green Zone together after The Bourne Ultimatum, and the schedule on that has become a bit drawn out, with the budget going north of $100m. »

Jcvd Director Adapts Graphic Novel The Insiders; Jessica Alba Still Attached
2 hours ago
Back in June, we told you that Robert Rodriguez and Jessica Alba had optioned The Insiders, a French spy thriller comic book series featuring a female lead character that definitely harkens back to Alba's career-originating turn on the series Dark Angel. At that point the whole thing was just a rights option with Rodriguez set to produce. Now there's a director, and one that makes the whole package a little more intriguing: Jcvd helmer Mabrouk el Mechri. Pajiba reports that el Mechri is on board -- what, you thought there was ever a chance that Rodriguez would direct this one? Expect to see a lot more of this sort of producer action from the guy, especially if Predators does well. He's very much in a position to transition into the sort of producer that can enable less-established directors who do interesting or fan-pleasing work. Jcvd was most definitely fan-pleasing. I »

Robert Downey Jr. “Very Involved” In Rewriting Iron Man 2 Screenplay
6 hours ago
It sounds like there's been a lot kitchen hands, if not exactly chefs, stirring ingredients into Iron Man 2. The first named screenwriter was Justin Theroux, the actor and famously a co-writer of Tropic Thunder; there's also the Marvel brain trust made up of some of their brightest and best comic book talents; and now, Jon Favreau has revealed that Tony Stark's off-screen alter-ego Robert Downey Jr. played a significant part in shaping the sequel's screenplay. Of course, there's no doubt that Favreau himself had a hand in the story and structure, if not the precise beats and dialogue so we're definitely looking at a group collaboration here. I remember that Edward Norton took control of the Incredible Hulk script, for better or worse. He suffered quite a drubbing for that, too. Could Downey end up the scapegoat if Iron Man 2 ends up falling short of expectations? Hopefully not, »

Avatar Roundup: Sam Worthington Signed For Three; Production Designer Interview; an Early ‘Review’
6 hours ago
We're going to have to do a semi-regular Avatar roundup from now until December 18, aren't we? Small tidbits about the movie are hitting left and right, so here we go. First, Sam Worthington says he is signed for three films. (Actually, he says 'we', but we don't know who's included in that.) Not much of a surprise there; standard practice with any big picture like this is to sign the talent to multiple films. Not that such a thing means more films will necessarily happen, nor does it mean that if sequels do happen the signed cast will necessarily return. Hollywood contracts are flexible like that. [Total Film, via MarketSaw] After the break, details on an MTV webcast with the cast and crew, an interview with the film's production designer and a sensationalistic early review. On Dec 3 MTV will host a webcast with participation from James Cameron, producer Jon Landau and ... »

Darth Vader is Carved Into The National Cathedral
9 hours ago
For me, that's the best part about reading a Dan Brown novel, is learning trivial bits of information on places and history. No one really reads Brown's books for his "master storytelling", do they? His latest book, The Lost Symbol came out while I was at the Toronto International Film Festival, and I haven't really had a chance to read it, but friend and Rejects editor Cole Abaius is working his way through it and mentioned last night on Twitter an amazing geek fact about the National Cathedral. And while this is in no way considered news, or new information, I thought it was interesting enough to share (heck, I didn't know about it...) Did you know: Darth Vader is carved into the northwest tower of the National Cathedral in Washington DC? It's apparently true. It's not a big secret, the National Cathedral's website even has an official page dedicated »

Filming For The Hobbit to Start in Mid-Summer 2010
11 hours ago
Consider this another addition to the ever-increasing pile of vague factoids for Guillermo Del Toro's The Hobbit. According to TheOneRing.net, Peter Jackson mentioned to reporters (while doing press for The Lovely Bones) that they hope to begin filming towards the middle of next year, a delay from the film's previous March 2010 shooting plan. See the full Jackson quote after the break. We’re currently working on the second script which we hope to have completed by the end of this year or beginning of next. When the scripts are completed, we can begin with the exact calculation of the necessary budget. We hope to start filming in the middle of next year. However, we’ve received no green light from the studio yet. The quote originates from German film site Moviereporter.net, and was translated by TheOneRing. Now that The Hobbit scripts are finally nearing completion, I think »

Tarantino and Brad Pitt on Wacky Japanese Food Show, Pitt Wants Inglourious Basterds Prequels
13 hours ago
Talk of an Inglourious Basterds prequel is nothing new. Back in June we reported on a GQ interview where Harvey Weinstein talked about the vast amounts of material Tarantino had prepped for Basterds, much of which could be compiled into other films and projects. Word was that the next film would be about a squad of African American soldiers that come across the Basterds. Now we have news that Brad Pitt is actually pushing for the prequels from the unlikeliest of sources: A wacky Japanese food show. Check out a clip of Pitt and Tarantino on the show after the break. Tarantino had previously mentioned to MTV that "If Brad will have his way, then [a prequel or sequel] will happen." On the talk show clip below, Pitt furthered that thought, "I'm trying to get him to make a prequel. Two of them. Three of them." Obviously, he seems to joking a ... »

Votd: Ian McShane and Tom Wilkinson Talk About Love and Dating
13 hours ago
I haven't yet had a chance to see 44 Inch Chest, the film from Sexy Beast screenwriters Louis Mellis and David Scinto directed by British commercial helmer Malcolm Venville. The cast is enough to get me really interested: Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Tom Wilkinson and John Hurt, among others. The score, by Angelo Badalamenti and Massive Attack, sounds promising, too. Reviews have been middling as the picture hits festivals and general release in Australia, but I'm not going to let that stop me. Especially after seeing these two little clips, featuring McShane and Wilkinson as they describe recent experiences with love and dating. I don't know how these fit into the film, which actually makes them more enjoyable. They're just clips of two great actors doing their thing before the camera. Twitch has both clips, and I'd expect to see a couple more soon, as they appear to be emerging at »

Daybreakers Extended TV Trailer
We haven't talked much about Daybreakers, the upcoming vampire film by writer/director siblings Michael and Peter Spierig, but the release of the film's extended TV trailer seems reason enough to shed some light on it. The film stars Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe in a world where vampires rule, and humans are a minority hunted for blood. In the trailers it's revealed that the vampires blood supply is dwindling, and that they're searching for a synthetic blood substitute. There's also talk of a "cure"---apparently the worldwide vampirism was caused by a plague of some sort. I like the film's reversal by making vampires the dominant group, and overall it looks like a perfectly stylish blend of sci-fi and horror. Quite honestly, I was hoping we'd eventually see a film with this premise in the Blade universe, but we can thank David Goyer for running that into the ground with Blade: Trinity. »

Funny Interviews: Jason Reitman Answers Questions Not On His Pie Chart and Jason Schwartzman as Wes Anderson in Stop-Motion
16 hours ago
A couple of unusual interviews have hit the web today. The is first from our friends at FilmSchoolRejects, who talked to director Jason Reitman, not about his new movie Up in the Air, but instead quizzed the filmmaker on the pie chart he keeps of all the questions asked while on his press tour. Rejects Managing Editor Dr. Cole Abaius wrote the following: "Instead of asking the usual, boring questions that have clearly been retread as much as 83 times, I decided to take the one word or two word codes for each entry and base my questions off of those. Even though he’s a talented director, and I’m a complete moron, Reitman was magnanimous enough to play along." The second of which was conducted by MoviesOnline.ca, with Fantastic Mr. Fox star Jason Schwartzman pretending to be director Wes Anderson, in a movie website first -- an interview »

Lost Season Six Spanish TV Promo: The Chessboard
18 hours ago
As you've probably noticed by now, ABC's promos for the sixth and final season of Lost have been entirely composed of old clips, featuring no clips from the new season. The reason for this is that Damon Lindelof and Carton Cuse have said that they are trying to keep the last season of the sci-fi drama as unspoiled as possible. In Spain, they are also airing new Lost promos, also with no new footage... but they have taken a more stylized approach -- contrasting the island and characters of Lost with chess. John Hillcoat’s Next Courting Amy Adams for Female Lead, Retitled The Promised Land?
I've been keenly eyeing news on John Hillcoat's potential adaptation of The Wettest County in the World, scripted by Nick Cave based on the novel by Matt Bondurant. There's been significant maybe/hopefully casting news for the film so far, but not much more. Hillcoat seems to have Shia Labeouf and Ryan Gosling interested and/or attached, and there was word that other actors, like Scarlett Johansson and Michael Shannon, were interested. Now, based on some art from the American Film Market, it appears that the leading female role will go, in an ideal world, to Amy Adams. And the film may just have a slightly shorter and more generic title: The Promised Land. Collider just ran their final collection of sales art and info from Afm, and way at the bottom of a long post is a rather plain sales sheet for The Promised Land. Unless Hillcoat has »
