Twilight's Ashley Greene Looking Pretty Sans Fangs In Skateland
13 hours ago
Twilight.s Ashley Greene is trading in her vampire fangs for roller skates. That.s an even trade, right? Okay, not really, but Skateland is scheduled to make its world premier at the Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Dramatic Competition. Here.s the official synopsis: Skateland explores the rupture of charismatic Ritchie Wheeler (Shiloh Fernandez), brother and sister Brent and Michelle Burkham (Heath Freeman and Greene), and wise-cracking lady-killer Kenny Crawford's (Taylor Handley) seemingly complacent existence as they struggle with the collapse of their tumultuous home lives, the alcohol-induced idling of reckless adolescence, and the wane of their hometown hangout, the local roller rink. A story syncopated with moments of violent turbulence, of heartbreak and of new beginnings, Skateland immerses the audience in the brutal, but beautiful vastness of East Texas blue skies and the emotional claustrophobia of the bible belt. Enveloped by the brooding melodies and incendiary »
Movie Theater Execs Name Sandra Bullock Entertainer Of The Year
13 hours ago
Sandra Bullock has already made it onto the cover of Entertainment Weekly as the Entertainer of the Year. Does she really need more accolades? Apparently so, according to the Quigley Publishing Company. The group surveyed movie theater executives to ask who they considered the top star of 2009, and Bullock earned the top spot. Slashfilm speculates that the group has conveniently chosen to ignore Bullock's All About Steve, one of the worst films of the year, to focus on Bullock's two hits-- The Proposal, the summer romantic comedy that grossed $315 million worldwide, and The Blind Side, which is already in the top 10 for the year with a $200 million domestic gross (it opened in late November). It's hard to argue with Bullock's success, especially given that most of the other major hits of the year were either primarily about robots or featured no major stars. But as a victim of All About »
The Legend Comes To Life On The Wolfman Website
14 hours ago
It.s the New Year and The Wolfman is actually hitting theaters in a little over a month. Even with a number of bumps in the road, the time has come and Universal is getting pumped up by launching the film.s brand new website. Even with a number of sections still under construction www.TheWolfmanMovie.com has tons of monstrous goodies for you to explore. Of course there.s a story synopsis, trailers and a photo gallery, but the best of the bunch is the features section. It.s got a link to Universal.s Monster Legacy site, which takes a look at the creation and development of the monster movie genre. There.s also a page called Lycanthropy that gives you a taste of the truth behind the legend. It explains what Lycanthropy is, accounts of possible werewolf attacks and more. Another neat element can be found on »
Meet Toy Story 3.s Mister Pricklepants
Over the past few weeks we.ve seen a lot of Toy Story veterans showing off the upcoming third film, but finally, we.re now introduced to a brand new character. In the new featurette (via Slashfilm), director Lee Unkrich walks us through the basics of Toy Story 3. It.s pretty much the same information and footage we get from the film.s trailers except for one cute but not-so-cuddly detail. Unkrich introduces us to Mr. Pricklepants, a stuffed thespian hedgehog just trying to stay in character. He.s voiced by Timothy Dalton, who.s best known for playing James Bond in The Living Daylights and License to Kill. Other than the fact that it looks like Mr. Pricklepants will be just as lovable as the original gang, we don.t know much about him. Could he be a toy Buzz and Woody meet at the daycare center? Could »

Youth In Revolt Promo Stars Bob Weinstein As The Bloody Mary Fairy
31 December 2009 2:39 PM, PST
In Youth in Revolt Michael Cera plays Nick Twisp, a nice young guy consumed by his raging hormones. He also plays Francois Dillinger, Nick.s alter ego and the driving force behind Nick.s deviance. In these two promos Cera shows off yet another side, the major asshole side. In this Adult Swim mock interview, cameramen barge into Cera.s house unexpectedly interrupting Cera.s .game room. time. Both videos are basically the same except for one very quick yet shocking moment, a cameo by Bob Weinstein. We.re used to seeing Harvey.s face, but Bob? Did anyone even know what he looked like let alone the fact that he.s Cera.s personal cocktail server? »

Nine Won't Be Expanding Any Time Soon
31 December 2009 8:03 AM, PST
I wasn't really a gigantic fan of Nine, and given that I fell hard for Chicago and love musicals in general, that probably isn't a good sign for the movie's overall performance. But I'm kind of surprised to see the extent to which people are actively rooting for this movie to fail. It's the only reason I can come up with for a story like the one at Reuters, which makes news of the fact that Nine won't be expanding into more theaters over the holidays. Apparently it's a good sign that they're not actively cutting theaters, given that the movie has only made about $7 million thus far from 1,408 theaters. That put it well behind fellow Oscar fare like Up in the Air and even the seemingly unstoppable The Blind Side, and given that Chicago made $2 million from just 77 theaters on its opening weekend in 2002, not exactly promising for things »
Gibson May Appear In Mad Max After All
31 December 2009 6:09 AM, PST
Now this is deep speculation based on the tiniest bit of information dropped by Clint over at MovieHole, but Mel Gibson may still show up in Mad Max: Fury Road despite recent announcements that he wouldn.t. The latest news from the Ozploitation remake is that Gibson.s production company, Icon Entertainment, has decided they.d like to co-produce the film. What does this mean for Mad Max? Probably nothing beyond getting a bit more money and representation, but it puts Gibson close to the set in time for shooting. Could we see a cameo from Gibson? Will he be the bad guy? Or, like Clint suggests, will he narrate? Nothing like that has been confirmed, I.m just stretching my rumor muscles. Either way, Mad Max is trucking towards production with Bronson star Tom Hardy in the leading role, and based on his performance there, we.re going »
Images From the Set of the Last Airbender
31 December 2009 6:05 AM, PST
After that depressing waste of celluloid The Happening (in which next to nothing actually happens), the ultra critical eyes will be ready to pick M. Night Shyamalan.s next film, The Last Airbender apart. We haven.t been given too much in the way of footage from the film, so most people, including yours truly, have reserved their early judgments until February, when the full trailer will be released. Fans of the anime will get a little glimpse behind the scenes of Shyamalan.s latest if they spring for some actual printed media and pick up January.s issue of Empire. The pictures don.t exactly show off anything too flashy, but you do get a standard .I.m frigging awesome. shot of Night who I.m beyond positive said, .I look awesome standing right here, take the picture.. Disney's Rapunzel Gives Little Mermaid A Run For Her Seashells
31 December 2009 1:19 AM, PST
Disney.s next animated movie is another fairytale adaptation. This time they.re taking on Rapunzel which is, well, sort of what Shrek did in the first movie. Isn.t it? Expect fewer farts in Disney.s retelling. Also their Rapunzel is, well, named Rapunzel and apparently kind of sassy. She.s also well on her way to being Disney.s hottest princess since the Little Mermaid danced in her seashells and sang about walking on land. The first photo of the newest Disney princess character appeared on the French site disneypixar.fr. Click over there for a high-res version or check it out below: »
Jeremy Renner Is Not Hawkeye
30 December 2009 4:27 PM, PST
Back in November we ran the story .Avenger.s Hawkeye Played By Hurt Locker.s Renner?. Hopefully you took note of the question mark because this news was indeed a rumor. Jeremy Renner told Empire, .I met with the Marvel guys, actually, but we didn.t talk about Captain America. But one of the writers, Zak Penn, we.ve become friends over time and he was thinking maybe Hawkeye could be interesting. He sounds like an interesting character.. This will be Renner.s first lesson in the Internet.s anxiousness to inflate and spread bogus news like wildfire. More recently, Renner told Movieline: That was just one of those things that got blown way out of proportion. It was an idea. Those Marvel guys, I.m a big fan of them. They.re so smart about how they want to do these things . So they thought Hawkeye is an interesting »
Mel Gibson Movie Incites Riot At A Mexico Prison
30 December 2009 3:11 PM, PST
Did Mel Gibson really think he.d get a warm welcoming for displacing inmates at the Ignacio Allende prison in Veracruz? Earlier this month we told you about Gibson.s plan to travel to Mexico.s Gulf coast state to shoot a movie at the facility in January. Veracruz Gov. Fidel Herrera was thrilled to vacate a portion of the prison .because a grand production will be filmed there with our friend, the actor and producer Mel Gibson.. Prisoner relatives did not share his sentiment. As reported by the AP, 300 family members protested the filming holding signs that read .No transfers to make a movie. in fear of their loved ones being transferred making visitation far more difficult. The prison director claims the riot is unfounded. Gerardo Duran explains the upheaval was caused by mere rumors and that no plan to relocate anyone was made. Hopefully someone passes that message »
James McAvoy Likes Martinis Shaken, Not Stirred
30 December 2009 7:25 AM, PST
No reason to get all hot and bothered yet, ladies. James McAvoy will not be stepping into the shoes being so effectively filled by Daniel Craig, not yet at least. He will, however, be playing the role of the man behind James Bond, Ian Fleming, who loosely based Bond's adventures on his own life. According to Pajiba the planned Fleming biopic will supposedly be focusing on Fleming's experiences during World War II, which most influenced the James Bond character. Fleming spent quite a lot of time as brains behind intelligence gathering teams, commanding task forces into Nazi Germany and collecting whatever documents or devices they deemed pertinent to the cause of the Allies. Based on the book Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond, the biopic will be produced jointly by Palmstar and Animus Films, says Pajiba.s source. Palmstar.s focus has been making films based in the »
New Eagle Of The Ninth Images Look A Lot Like Gladiator
30 December 2009 7:17 AM, PST
I wasn't alive for the previous heyday of sword and sandals movies like Spartacus, so I really have to ask-- are they all the same, or do they all just look the same? In the decade following Gladiator, I haven't been able to look at a single movie featuring guys in sandals and togas without saying "Well, that looks exactly like Gladiator"-- and usually that judgment is pretty accurate too. Yes, I realize that that's how they dressed back then, and you can't make a Roman epic featuring guys in space helmets. But admit it-- most of these movies have the same plot about glory and revenge, and none of them are as awesome as Maximus shouting "Are you not entertained???" So is there any reason to expect something new and novel from Eagle of the Ninth, aside from the fact that it features the super-hunky Channing Tatum? I'm »
The Most Memorable Movie Moments Of 2009
29 December 2009 11:03 PM, PST
Some movies are remembered for their great performances or their great ideas. Some are best remembered as a completed a whole, a piece of art that doesn't quite come together until every frame has unspooled on screen. But more often than not it's the moments we remember most; those special, singular places in time where everything comes together on screen for a few brief seconds or minutes to create something so indelible, so perfect, you'll carry it with you for the rest of your life. In that moment you're on top of the world or at your lowest of lows. In that moment, if only for a moment, a filmmaker has done something which captures who you are, or what makes you laugh, what makes you feel, or what makes you think. 2009 had more than its share of those special, irreplaceable moments on film. These are the ones we'll remember »
New Russian I Love You Phillip Morris Poster
29 December 2009 3:08 PM, PST
What.s the deal with I Love You Phillip Morris? I.m not talking about the fact that it features Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor in an awkwardly trite gay relationship, rather that little is being done to get anyone in the Us excited for its March release. It seems to be making more progress abroad. We snagged the film.s obnoxiously cliché international trailer back in July and, just the other day, Jim Carrey Online announced the film.s Japanese trailer website went live. Now, Imp Awards got a hold of the new Russian poster. It shows off Carrey as Steve Russell, family man turned con artist turned jailbird, and his prison sweetheart, Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). I don.t know what.s worse, the outfits, the mini pinscher accessories or the fact that both actors are airbrushed to the extreme. Just as almost every Us distributor had no »
Ramis Confirms Ghostbusters 3 Shooting In Summer 2010
29 December 2009 2:10 PM, PST
I hate to say it, but the more I hear about Ghostbusters 3 the harder it is to get excited about it. Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku? Bill Murray as a ghost? While it is only but speculation at this point and all of it could be completely wrong, nothing I have heard so far really instills a lot of confidence that they can get the magic back 20 years later. Like it or not, however, the film is most likely happening, and now Harold Ramis has given us an indication as to when exactly that might be. In an interview with Heeb Magazine, which covered old ground such as Animal House, Club Paradise, Stripes, and Groundhog Day, Ramis confirmed that the film will center on both the old and new team of Ghostbusters, but more significantly spilled about the film's production timeline. Last week, Ivan Reitman hinted that filming could get »
Will Sam Worthington Be The Next Flash Gordon?
29 December 2009 10:56 AM, PST
Can someone explain to me exactly where the hell Sam Worthington came from? One minute he's as well known as my neighbor who knits sweaters for her cats and the next he is stealing thunder from John Connor in a Terminator sequel and headlining the first James Cameron film in 12 years. The man is certainly the breakthrough action star of 2009 and with that title, of course, he will be the subject of rumor for every action film for the next five years. So what tent pole will Worthington be "attached to" next? HollyScoop, which has a name as reputable as The Sun, has reported that the man is now on a shortlist of actors being looked at to bring back Flash Gordon, the interstellar polo player who fights Ming the Merciless on planet Mongo (Don't you miss the 1930s?) Ryan Reynolds is among the other actors being looked at for »
WWII Horror Comic Optioned
29 December 2009 8:04 AM, PST
We should all be used to seeing countless comic properties finding their way to the big screen. Even some of the smaller stories like Kick-Ass have been plucked from the world of glossy pages and paneled stories and given the Hollywood treatment. And now as we head into the second decade of this new millennium, it looks like nothing is going to change. According to Variety producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy have wrapped their hands around the WWII comic Night and Fog, originally published by Studio 407. The comic centers on an island military base contaminated by a mist that turns its inhabitants into violent, blood-thirsty rage zombies. Think Saving Private Ryan meets 28 Days Later. These monsters adapt to their surroundings proving to be a nearly unstoppable force against the remaining survivors. Adler, being no stranger to horror or comic adaptations, is the right man to have on the job. »
