New Portman, Gyllenaal thriller 'Brothers' a remake of Danish thriller 'Brødre" by Susanne Bier
12 November 2009 1:25 PM, PST
Lionsgate will release Brothers, a new thriller about a returning war veteran starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey MaGuire, and Natalie Portman nationwide in the United States on December 4, 2009.
But did you know it is a remake of a Danish film, Brødre, from 2004 written and directed by Susanne Bier?
“In our part of the world, we’re dealing with an abstract war, a war we can’t see that we’re in, which is a very strange thing,” Bier told journalist Jessica Winter in 2004 when the film was released during the London Film Festival, not long before Bush started pulling out all the stops in Fallujah. “It’s not tangible, but it’s there, and that must be really terrifying for most people...”
Bier's film was terrifying and emotionally devastating. Hopefully the remake will have as much of an impact and not skimp on the violence or consequences of war and mental instability. »

New black metal documentary written and directed by Audrey Ewell and Aaron Aites Until The Light Takes Us is out in Us theaters December 4, 2009 (NYC), December 11, 2009 (Los Angeles).
Part music scene and part cultural uprising, black metal rose to worldwide notoriety in the mid-nineties when a rash of suicides, murders, and church burnings accompanied the explosive artistic growth and output of a music scene that would forever redefine what heavy metal is and what it stands for to other musicians, artists and music fans world-wide. Until The Light Takes Us goes behind the highly sensationalized media reports of "Satanists running amok in Europe" to examine the complex and largely misunderstood principles and beliefs that led to this rebellion against both Christianity and modern culture. After.life (2009)
9 November 2009 1:46 PM, PST
Directed by Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo
Written by Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo, Paul Vosloo & Jakub Korolczuk
Featuring Liam Neeson, Christina Ricci, Justin Long
Review by Hal MacDermot
Do the dead live, or are the living dead? What does it mean to be dead anyway? Great questions, but I’m not sure if Agnieszka Wojtowicz really manages to answer them. After.life is her first feature, a psychological thriller, and despite some top notch talent in the persons of Liam Neeson, Christina Ricci and Justin Long, the film never lives up to potential. Liam Neeson’s performance as scary funeral-director-guy is the saving grace...
Anna (Christina Ricci) wakes up after a car accident and finds herself being prepared for burial in Eliot Deacon’s (Liam Neeson) funeral home. It seems that Eliot has a gift for conversing with the dead, and that’s why he can talk with her. He tells us that his role is »
