Hollywood star Mel Gibson's son Edward narrowly escaped death when his truck skidded off a muddy road and plunged into a river. The lucky 20-year-old and two pals were swept away by the force of the river - but were washed to safety to a shallow stretch after the skidded off a bridge on December 20. A pal reveals it was Edward's sensible nature that kept the trio alive - he kept assuring his passengers that everything would be OK and then remained calm as they linked arms and waded to safety once the truck came to a halt. The source says, "They had a terrifying brush with death. The storms had turned the creek into a raging torrent and they were lucky to escape with their lives." »
