7 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »
Fans of music comedy Flight of the Conchords rejoice, because while you won’t be seeing the duo from New Zealand in their retired hit show, you will find Jemaine Clement on the silver screen. In fact, you might have already caught Clement in the recently released Gentlemen Broncos. Now, according to Quiet Earth, Clement will star in the upcoming Jason Stutter crime comedy Predicament, based on the late Ronald Hugh Morrieson novel. Here’s the logline for the film: A crime comedy set in 1930s New Zealand in which a naive teenager conspires with two misfits to photograph and blackmail wealthy, adulterous couples.
Anyone that has seen Clement star in Flight of the Conchords knows that his serious-faced hilarity should make this a film to watch for. The storyline itself sounds interesting enough and one can only hope that Stutter will let Clement improvise his scenes. Perhaps Clement will »

Rumor Control: No Cruise/Lautner Pairing; Muse Possibly Soundtracking Clash of the Titans
39 minutes ago | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »
In the past twenty-four hours a few stories have broken that were either debunked, shown to be partially wrong, or are a bit optimistic. Brendon quickly jumped on top of Universal's denial of alternate cuts of The Wolfman, but here are a couple other items to be critical of. Yesterday, there was news that Taylor Lautner would co-star with Tom Cruise in Northern Lights, which sounded sort of like Top Gun, Jr. Now EW reports that Cruise isn't part of the package, and never was. And, in fact, Nikki Finke (who, like it or not, usually has good info) got the logline wrong, too. Hers was out of date. Here's the current one, via Skydance, the production company: Set against the backdrop of extreme flying, Northern Lights follows four young pilots as they compete against the world’s best. A story of teamwork, sacrifice, loss, and victory, these young aviators »

The Road brings fictional ecological disasters into the here and now | Ed Gillespie
39 minutes ago | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »
Wall-e was endearing and Avatar epic, but The Road is an eco-film we can more humanly relate to
There's an iconic scene in The Road, the brilliant film of Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer prize-winning novel that hits cinemas today, involving a can of Coke. Viggo Mortensen's character, referred to simply as "the man", prises the beverage from a dusty, wrecked vending machine for him and his son, "the boy", to share.
They've been slogging their way across an equally dusty and wrecked landscape in the aftermath of an ambiguous environmental catastrophe. It's the first "food" they've had in days. As the boy takes his first ever sip of the fizzy drink, you can feel the audience tangibly empathising with him.
It's poignant as it's maybe one of the few scenes viewers can directly relate to in a world of bleak despondency turned horribly upside down: perpetually grey skies, the rumble of earthquakes underfoot, »

An Awesome Video Interview with Matthew Goode; Talks A Single Man, Leap Year, Cemetary Junction and Watchmen
53 minutes ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »
Every once in awhile you do an interview that just comes out awesome. Today is one of those days.
I recently got to speak with Matthew Goode and while some actors are guarded and careful with their answers and opinions, what I love about Matthew Goode is his honesty and his willingness to talk about anything and everything. Also, he was willing to light up and smoke on camera and not apologize for it. Trust me when I say most Hollywood actors would never do this.
The reason I got to speak to Goode was for his recent work in Tom Ford’s great debut film A Single Man. But with Goode also in Ricky Gervais upcoming Cemetary Junction and the romantic comedy Leap Year, we also covered those films. And for fans of Watchmen, we discussed that film at length as he played Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias.

Two doctors embark on a research project to cure fear-ridden, phobic patients of all varieties. Just as fame and honor creep into the lives of Doctor Nicholas Nemet (Dario Deak), and Doctor Marvin Stalberg (John Colton), a series of murders occurs among cured patients which mirror the victims’ initial homicidal fears.

Ewan McGregor In For Knockout
1 hour ago | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »
Steven Soderbergh promised that his spy thriller Knockout would feature a killer name cast to support mixed martial arts star Gina Carano - and he wasn't kidding. Ewan McGregor, Dennis Quaid, Michael Douglas and Michael Fassbender have all joined the film. The rough plot for the globe-trotting blend of Bourne and beauty finds black ops super soldier Mallory Kane (Carano) betrayed by one of her own team, launching her on a hunt for revenge.According to The Playlist, Douglas will play a shady government figure (think Chris Cooper in the Bourne films), while Fassbender will be a member of her commando spy unit and a possible candidate (along with an as-yet-unnamed fellow thesp) for one of the soldiers who stabs Mallory in the back.McGregor, on the other hand, will be part of her post-trooper life, as the owner of a Blackwater-style private military company. Maggie Grace Goes Faster with Dwayne Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton
1 hour ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »
Variety reports that Maggie Grace (Lost, Taken) will join Dwayne Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton in the action flick Faster. Salma Hayek is also in negotiations to co-star to make sure the film is sexy enough (although she was unable to do anything to save her last film, Cirque du Freak). Faster on an ex-con (Johnson) looking to avenge his brother’s murder while being trailed by a veteran cop. There’s currently no word on the role Grace will play, but her career is looking pretty solid as she’s co-starring in the upcoming Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz flick Knight and Day and is signed to do a sequel to Taken–where hopefully her character will have learned her lesson about the dangers of lying to your parents so you can see U2 in concert.
Back to Faster, we should all rejoice when Johnson does an action flick because »

First Images Of Will Forte As MacGruber!
1 hour ago | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »
Mid last year, it was announced that Will Forte would bring his Saturday Night Live character MacGruber to the big screen for an all-action comedy romp. Some feared it would never work. We, however, were excited - and now, thanks to the team at Cinema Blend, there is pictorial proof that makes us giggle like eager children. The be-mulleted action hero - essentially a loving rip on '80s icon MacGyver - will expand on his usual misadventures (the show's skits always see him trapped in a room with a bomb, which explodes).Following the murder of his fiancee, the special ops expert has spent the last 10 years ignoring the call to action. But then his country tasks him with finding a stolen nuclear warhead. He's aided by an elite team of experts, including regular sidekick Vicki St Elmo (Kristen Wiig) and newcomer Lt Dixon Piper (Ryan Phillippe). But will »
James Cameron Options Hiroshima Book
2 hours ago | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »
Not content with savaging the locals' eco-home on Pandora in Avatar, James Cameron is also setting his sights on a real-life piece of devastating military action, optioning a nonfiction book about the attack on Hiroshima.Yes, in his second news story of the day, Cameron has bought up the rights to Charles Pellegrino's soon-to-be published tome The Last Train From Hiroshima: The Survivors Look Back. Pellegrino's title chronicles two days during an after the atomic bomb drops, using eyewitness accounts from Japanese civilians and American pilots who survived the experience. Cameron has yet to set the film up as a project, but he's already been doing some research - he took a day out of his Avatar promotional tour of Japan last month to visit Tsutomo Yamaguchi, who fled the destruction of the city for the relative safety of Nagasaki. And he managed to survive once more when that »
GI Joe Sequel Recruits Writers
2 hours ago | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »
It's a fair bet that few people (read: no one) walked out of the first G.I. Joe outing thinking, 'hhhm… that was a great screenplay!' But while the sequel is still developing, we're hopeful it might actually boast some better dialogue. Why? Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been hired to script it.The pair, who've been busy cranking out ideas for a Zombieland follow-up already have one geek-bait project on their plates, since they're also signed to write Deadpool. But now they'll be getting the chance to make Duke, Snake Eyes and the rest sound A) funnier and B) less stupid. At least, that's the thinking. Given that the movie will be a tentpole action blockbuster and follow-up to a $300 million hit for Paramount, we're sure that other writers will also have their mucky paws on the script. Still, if something from the men who »
Avatar Is Second Biggest Movie Ever
2 hours ago | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »
James Cameron has managed to do what Sauron and his legion of orcs and Uruk-hai couldn't: defeat Gandalf and the hobbits. Yes, Avatar is now the second highest grossing film of all time. Why, it seems only yesterday that the sci-fi behemoth was toppling Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (er, that's because it was). Thanks to another healthy day at the box office, Avatar rose to $37.4 million in the States and $760.9 million around the rest of the world, pushing its worldwide haul to $1.14 million, besting the $1.1 million that Peter Jackson managed between 2003 and 2004.And with limited competition at the Us box office this coming weekend, Cameron's latest looks set to enjoy another weekend at the top of the charts. It's still touch and go as to whether Avatar will get near Titanic's $1.842 billion, but we doubt Cameron's losing any sleep over it. Particularly as he'll be sleeping on $100 bills. »
