Blake Lively and Chace Crawford were on the NYC set of Gossip Girl today alongside Penn Badgley, Jessica Szohr, and Taylor Momsen. They're back to work after going their separate ways over the holiday hiatus - Leighton Meester partied in Miami while Blake Lively stayed closer to home to make sure the red-carpet scene was covered. Leighton wasn't around for the day of filming nor was she in attendance at last night's People's Choice Awards, where Nicole Scherzinger sang her part in Cobra Starship's "Good Girls Go Bad." NBC is reportedly planning to move Jay Leno back to his old 11:35 p.m. slot and start "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" later in the evening. The New York Times says the network is devising a plan to make Leno's show a half-hour long, thereby moving O'Brien's hour-long show to the start time of 12:05 a.m. The plan is still in the works, says the newspaper, but one anonymous senior exec tells the Times that an agreement between the network, Leno and O'Brien is basically in place. NBC has denied rumors that "The Jay Leno Show" was cancelled, but that didn't stop the funnyman from joking about the situation during his monologue Thursday night. "As you may have heard, there's a rumor floating around that we were cancelled," Leno said. "I heard it coming in this morning on the radio. So far, nobody's said anything to me." Spider-man star Willem Dafoe was fired from famous flop Heaven's Gate - for laughing at an extra's joke.
After playing an uncredited cock fighter in the 1980 Michael Cimino film, the actor upset the director by chuckling during a quiet tense scene and he was asked to leave the set.
He recalls, "I'm still in the movie because I was the cock fighter. That was one of the things I did; I worked for Jeff Bridges' character in the story.
"I was there for three months and I worked a lot. It was the kind of thing where you were hired to play an unscripted character and then they developed these smaller characters. I had scenes and everything and was really enjoying it and then one day we were doing a lighting set-up for a long time; basically eight hours standing in place, and a woman told me a joke in my ear and I laughed at a moment of silence.
"Cimino turned around and said, 'Willem step out,' and that was that. I was the lamb for sacrifice."
Dafoe has since confronted The Deer Hunter director and reminded him of the moment he was fired, but the moviemaker has no recollection of the incident.
Dafoe tells WENN, "He doesn't quite acknowledge it, but that's what happened. It was quite a lesson because that was the first studio movie I had ever been involved in, so it was quite an eye-opener. I thought, 'Wow, what a rough world!'"
But Dafoe dodged a bullet - his name isn't among the credits in a film that has become a punchline in movie industry jokes. The flop closed a studio and largely cost Cimino his reputation. »

Moviemaker James Cameron can now boast the top two grossing films of all time - only his Titanic has made more at the box office than new movie Avatar.
The sci-fi epic has made over $1.14 billion globally since its release in December, relegating former number two blockbuster, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, to third on the all-time money-making list.
