His mother remarried to a bass player in Frank Sinatra's band while she sang backup. Went to seven schools within 11 years. He moved out of his mother's home, living in the streets and sold drugs until he was kicked out. Went to live with his grandparents in Idaho and then to Los Angeles, California. Bassist for the glam metal band Mötley Crüe.

After being shot full of heroin, actually left his body and, in effect, "died". Was revived by paramedics in the hospital. After this incident, he and the whole band were advised to kick drugs altogether.

Before settling on the name Motley Crue, the band considered such names as Trouble, Christmas, Bad Blood, and Suicidal Tendencies (the name of another, as-yet-unknown at the time hardcore L.A. punk band).

Father of four children: Gunner Nicholas (b. 1991), Storm Brieanne (b. 1994) Dekker Nilsson (b. 1995) and Frankie-Jean Mary (b. 2001).

Briefly engaged to singer Vanity in 1987.

Grew up in Seattle, Washington, moved at 16 years old.
