Rock stars Bill Wyman and Nick Mason have expressed concern that games such as Rock Band could stop young people from learning to play musical instruments, reports BBC News. The Beatles: Rock Band will be released tomorrow on Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3, with Sir Paul McCartney recently saying that John Lennon and George Harrison would "have seen the point" of the game. However, former Rolling Stones bassist Wyman claimed that the "trouble" with playing music simulation titles is that it "encourages kids not to learn". "It makes less and less people dedicated to really get down and learn an instrument," he said. "I think it is a pity so I'm not really keen on that kind of stuff." The surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr and the estates of George Harrison and John Lennon are expected a huge payday from their new computer game, but former Rolling Stones star Bill Wyman has blasted rock video games. Wyman, who played bass guitar in the rock band from 1962 until he left in 1992, says youngsters nowadays are losing the urge to pick up an instrument, because they are so involved with games such as Guitar Hero and the forthcoming Beatles: Rock Band. Martin Scorsese appears on-camera in the pre-concert scenes of Shine a Light, his only obvious personal touch to a concert film that’s generally indistinguishable from your average HBO special. Scorsese has made some wonderful documentaries over the years, and at this stage in his career, I look forward to his pet projects more than his Hollywood features, but when measured against gems like ItalianAmerican and The Last Waltz, or even the tutorial My Voyage to Italy, Shine a Light is easily the least impressive work of Scorsese’s non-fiction career… which isn’t to say it’s a boring movie, or somehow not worth the price of even an IMAX ticket, because The Rolling Stones are indisputably world-class entertainers, and don’t require any »

Bob Dylan has said that The Rolling Stones should reunite with their former bassist Bill Wyman. The iconic singer-songwriter revealed that without the bassist the band had become a “funk band.” Bill Wyman quit The Rolling Stones in 1992. Dylan said: "I’m not saying they don’t keep going, but they need Bill. Without him they’re a funk band. They’ll be the real Rolling Stones when they get Bill back." The songwriter later (more) »
