The 71-year-old attended an event held at the show's Nunawading home in honour of residents who were hit hard by February's Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria. Smith, who made his final appearance as General Store owner Harold Bishop this year, reportedly spent the day being photographed, signing autographs, flipping burgers and taking guests on tours of the studios. He commented: "I'll happily be Harold for the day for these wonderful people." A number of other cast members past and present, including Alan Fletcher (Karl Kennedy), (more) »

A.C.T. Young Conservatory (Yc) proudly presents Martin McDonagh's The Cripple of Inishmaan, directed by W. D. Keith. Three teenagers living on a tiny island off the coast of Ireland in 1933 dream of escaping the dreary confines of their lives, but no one more so than "Cripple" Billy, a disabled orphan and village outcast. When the local gossip spreads the news that a Hollywood film crew is shooting a movie on a neighboring island, the three teens set sail to try for a role in the film-but Billy embarks on an altogether different kind of journey. This dark comedy by Tony Award-winning Irish writer Martin McDonagh, writer and director of the hit film In Bruges, delivers witty banter, piercing dialogue, and a cast of local characters as genuinely likable as they are imperfect, brilliantly performed by A.C.T.'s Young Conservatory. The Cripple of Inishmaan plays November 6-14, 2009, at Zeum Theater, »

Neighbours actor Ryan Moloney has admitted that he is "very sad" that Ian Smith has left the Australian soap. Smith, who has played Harold Bishop since 1987, announced his decision to quit the programme last August. Moloney, who joined the show as Jarred 'Toadie' Rebecchi in 1995, admitted that the departure of established actors is always difficult. "It is very sad. After spending so many years with them they become a part of your life," he told Digital Spy. "They've been with you so long and experienced a whole range of things with you. Anne Charleston has acted as a comforting maternal figure for numerous generations of TV viewers. As the gruff-voiced but soft-hearted Madge Bishop (née Ramsay) in Neighbours, she provided a hefty cornerstone for the Aussie soap to flourish from. Her partnership with Ian Smith (Harold) during her two stints on the show remains one of the most touching romances in soap history. The couple's return to Ramsay Street in 1996 after Harold came back from the dead (he was last seen five years previous disappearing off a cliff face leaving behind only his glasses) was only topped by Charleston's tearful farewell in 2001 when she died from cancer in her bed at No.24.
