Along with Maria Cole (Nat King Cole's wife), Silvera produced and directed the first professional production of James Baldwin's stage play "The Amen Corner". The play opened in New York City on 15 April 1965, running for a few weeks on Broadway. This production marked the Broadway debut of actors/actresses Beah Richards, Isabel Sanford, Whitman Mayo, and Art Evans.

He played the title role in Caedmon Records' complete recording of Shakespeare's "Othello".
