After years of inactivity, following his starring/directing turn in the 1990 Disney feature "Dick Tracy", actor/producer Warren 'Clyde Barrow' Beatty recently sued a unit of Tribune Co, to prevent Tribune from taking back film/TV rights to creator Chester Gould's newspaper comic strip detective character.
Budgeted at $47 million, "Dick Tracy" earned $103,738,726 domestic and $59,000,000 foreign for a worldwide box office of $162,738,726.
According to court documents, rights would revert to Tribune if "a certain period of time" lapsed without Beatty having produced another Dick Tracy movie, TV series or TV special.
Tribune sent Beatty a letter November 17, 2006, giving him two years to begin production on new "Dick Tracy" programing.
"Tribune asserted it still wanted to terminate Beatty's 'Tracy' Rights and effect a reversion, and purported to do so," the lawsuit said, with Beatty seeking a declaration that his work on a developing Dick Tracy documentary TV special precludes Tribune from »

One of the all-time great holiday specials, Pee-Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special, is streaming online at Pee-Wee's official website. Thanks, Jambi! I'm partial to the Grace Jones number just for the sheer strangeness of it, but my favorite is the Penny cartoon, just like it's my favorite part of every episode of Pee-Wee's Playhouse. Charro, Cher, Little Richard, Annette Funicello, Frankie Avalon, k.d. lang, Dinah Shore, Magic Johnson, Oprah, Zsa Zsa -- is there nothing this special can't do? You love it as much as I do, right, PopWatchers? Then why don't you marry it? Photo credit: Everett Collection »

Times like these, I hate reviewing classic films. What can I add that hasn’t already been said or covered about the 1976 Best Picture winner? Well, other than what film should have won it, but Rocky is a more than worthy candidate for the statue. It sometimes gets criticism for not showing enough of the epic fight at the end, but I feel that’s a brilliant move as we know these men will go the distance. The performances are excellent, the direction is up to par, and the story is a timeless classic. Truthfully, the alternate ending where Rocky throws the fight would have been interesting to see.
9/10
I’d forgotten what a depressing trip this was, which makes Rocky’s eventual win that much sweeter by the end of the film. This marked Sylvester Stallone’s second directorial debut and for the most part he »

Les Paul, the man credited with helping to revolutionize the electric guitar and change the course of music with his innovations in multi-track recording, died on Thursday (August 13) at the age of 94. According to a statement released by Gibson guitars — which manufactures the world-famous guitars bearing Paul's name — he died of complications from pneumonia in a White Plains, New York, hospital.
From the time he picked up his first guitar at the age of 9, Paul was fascinated with the instrument and its myriad possibilities. He began playing professionally at age 13 with country and western bands, as well as tinkering in his shop with a number of sound-related inventions that would soon revolutionize and forever change the sound of modern popular music. »

I was in the post office the other day and saw one of the "coming soon" ads for stamp collections that were on the way. It was too distant for me to make out exactly what it was, but one of the upcoming collections was dedicated to the golden age of TV. And now Sci Fi Wire has better quality images and more information about those stamps.
The set includes Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance, the Lone Ranger, Burns and Allen, Ozzie and Harriet, original Tonight Show host Steve Allen, Jackie Gleason and Art Carney, Alfred Hitchcock, Raymond Burr as Perry Mason, Jack Webb from Dragnet, Lassie, Red Skelton, Uncle Miltie, Dinah Shore, Groucho Marx, Phil Silvers, from the world of puppets, Kukla, Fran, and Ollie as well as Howdy Doody, William "Hopalong Cassidy" Boyd, and Rod Serling. »

Question: Is it true? There is going to be a Girltrash! movie? We've read on Killola's page that Lisa is starting shooting in October so it must be true and she also hinted that the whole cast is going to be back in. Do you know anything more? Isn't this exciting?
― Nathalie, Toronto
Answer: Yes, the rumors are true, and, yes, also exciting! For official confirmation, I checked in with Girltrash! creator Angela Robinson, and here's what she told me:
We are in talks with producers to shoot a (very low budget) Girltrash! movie in December, starring the original cast, plus some new characters. »

Poor Joe the Plumber, persecuted by the mainstream media and meanie lefty blogs for having the affrontery, the lese majeste, to question Obama's pinkish socialist policies. Thank heaven, figuratively and literally, for the friendly hospitality of Christianity Today: A Magazine of Evangelical Conviction, where Joe can feel free to be himself and express his opinions without some CNN reporter hovering nearby with a derisive sneer snaking across her lips. Here we can hear Joe Unplugged, intellectually au naturel and heading straight down the turnpike of simple, hard-ass truth. So, Joe, what do you think of same-sex marriage? I personally still think it's wrong. People don't understand the dictionary—it's called queer. Queer means strange and unusual. It's not like a slur, like you would call a white person a honky or something like that. You know, God is pretty explicit in what we're supposed to do—what man and woman are for. »

This weekend saw lots of lady love in sunny Palm Springs, California, at the annual 2009 Dinah Shore Weekend. The annual vacation bash is one of the largest lesbian-oriented events in the world. The party lasted from Wednesday to Friday, with huge acts like Katy Perry and Lady GaGa hitting the stage. "I Kissed a Girl" chanteuse Perry (or was it Zooey Deschanel?) performed Friday night and showed off a shiny silver outfit. Gaga did what she did best on Saturday, with funky costumes, daring accessories and by-now-traditional lack of pants. Work it, girls! Check out our full gallery from the weekend here! »

Question: When is the 3Way DVD coming out?
— Diana, Ames, Iowa
Question: What is the status of 3way season two? Is it being filmed or planned? I loved that show and can't wait to see more of it!
— Arielle
Answer: We've received a lot of questions on these two topics over the last few months, and we finally have an answer! To one of them, at least.
The first season of 3Way will be released on DVD on Dinah Shore weekend (i.e. the first weekend in April), according to the 3Way producers. They plan to post more details on 3WayTV.tv soon, »

I suppose part of the price of fame is enduring the absurdity of lame interviews (and other stories written about you and your appearance). But when a great interviewer is interviewed, I expect the questioner to do his homework at the very least. Especially when the subject is one as intelligent and articulate as Rachel Maddow.
But Vanity Fair’s George Wayne apparently doesn’t agree. His Q&A for the April 2009 issue is so weird that I hardly know how to react — apart from abject horror, I mean. Here are some of the most delightful excerpts, complete with pretend screenshots, since the interview wasn’t videotaped.
Gw: Now here you are, the most famous television dyke, well, since Dinah Shore! Rm: Ellen and Rosie are more famous.
Btw, Wayne is openly gay, so I don’t think his use of the word “dyke” is mean-spirited — just a bit vapid. »

Question: I heard that The L Word will be continuing online in the form of webisodes. Is this true? I thought that The L Word spinoff series was going to be a web series. I'm so confused! Can you tell me what's going on with all of this?
— Cynthia, Austin, TX
Answer: When we first told you about The L Word spinoff series, we learned that it would be a prison drama, The Farm, starring Leisha Hailey.
Showtime said that the show would initially debut online, with the potential to move to television. Showtime later stated that the pilot episode of the »

"The View" is riding high in the ratings as it begins a week of shows from La. Now in its 12th season, this ABC morning gabfest is drawing over 4.2 million viewers a day and scoring well in key demographics. And critics are enjoying the lively discussions that dominate the front half of the hour-long talker. Last week's leaking of the pre-nom lists for daytime dramas puts us in mind of the biggest mystery in daytime -- can the co-hosts of "The View" ever win a daytime Emmy Award?
While the revolving cast has been nominated as outstanding talk show hosts in each of the first 11 seasons, they have never won the award. And the show has only won one of its 11 consecutive daytime Emmy bids, when it tied with "The Wayne Brady Show" in 2003. The ladies of "The View" have blamed their losing streak on the possibility that voters have »

Question: What's going on with Missy Peregrym? The girl is smokin' hot!
— Cassandra, Bay Area, CA
Answer: I think you are probably speaking for a large portion of the lesbian masses when you profess your admiration for Ms. Peregrym.
In fact, I'm pretty sure that an entire generation of women got a glimpse of Peregrym's abs in the undeniably awesome film Stick It (2006) and immediately joined gyms in order to 1) sculpt their very own Peregrym-style six-pack or 2) pick up a girl with a Peregrym-style six-pack.
In 2007, Peregrym had a brief stint on Heroes as a shape-shifter, then took the role »
