Q: I'm curious about Project Runway's Christopher Straub. The ring he wears suggests he has a husband / partner / significant other. What details might you know on this? Every time Heidi had him in tears, I found myself strongly torn between wanting to give him a hug and going all Cher on him. – LgH, Houston, TX, Usw, Earth
A: “I am married!” Straub tells the Flying Monkey. “Well, not legally, but Ronnie and I had a commitment ceremony two-and-a-half years ago. We've been together for over five years. He's a little scientist, and we really don't understand what each other does for a living.”
I asked what the two of them do for fun. “We like to travel, watch TV – I like reality shows and he »

In a story from Variety, Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky are putting together a comedy for Showtime that centers around the memoir by actor-writer Craig Chester. Don Roos is going to direct if the project is tapped to be a pilot.
In Chester's 2003 memoir "Why the Long Face?: The Adventures of a Truly Independent Actor" we are taken into his world "as the gay son in a family of born-again Christian parents and his experiences as" an actor "in the indie film world."
The TV show, which is now being called Rapture, would be from the point of view of 9-year-old Chester who is discovering his sexual orientation while handling his devout mom who has visions of Christ juxtaposed with a rock 'n' roll guitar player father who fears his wife is losing it.

Natalie Portman's latest, Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, premiered this week in Toronto. Distributors have yet to pull out their checkbooks as we predicted around Movieline HQ, but no rush! It'll happen. In the meantime, the actress and recent first-time director sat down Wednesday with Pursuits filmmaker Don Roos and a few Tiff press for a late breakfast, a little conversation and an all-too-brief round of My Favorite Scene. »

Four years ago, a friend of mine came home from Toronto disappointed by the premiere of "Elizabethtown," Cameron Crowe's ill-fated, deeply personal story of a man coming home to bury his father. The director of "Almost Famous" and "Jerry Maguire," Crowe was a true heir to Hal Ashby when it came to making melancholy and emotionally moving mainstream entertainments, yet when his cut of "Elizabethtown" (that was ultimately trimmed down in running time) failed to win over audiences here, it was hard to imagine when someone would attempt tp do so again.
"Up in the Air" will be easy to overpraise -- it touches on larger themes of mass unemployment, cultural alienation and technology as a crutch. But ultimately, it's really an expertly done character study that's a dramatic change of pace from director Jason Reitman's previous two films, "Thank You for Smoking" and "Juno," comedies that led »

Writer/Director Don Roos is a really funny guy. And he's pretty talented too. His breakout flick "The Opposite of Sex" has grown in stature as one of the quintessential indie movies of the late 1990s. Unfortunately, he's never really duplicated the magic of the dark comedy that helped convince Hollywood Christina Ricci had real sex appeal. His latest film, "Love and Other Impossible Pursuits," debuted today at the Toronto International Film Festival for press and industry and to say it's a disappointment is an understatement. Adapted from a novel by Ayelet Waldman, "Impossible" centers on a young New York city legal... »

- Following my top ten Tiff list of titles available piece that I published a couples of hours back, Tiff released the lengthy list of titles that are looking for deals. Among those that I didn't mention in my top ten but could have easily have been there is the omission of Micmacs à tire-larigot (I wasn't sure if Warner Bros. only had domestic rights for France and not world rights), and titles such as Neil Jordan's Ondine, Atom Egoyan's Chloe, Oliver Parker's Dorian Gray, Aaron Schneider's Get Low, Derrick Borte's The Joneses and Michael J. Bassett's Solomon Kane should be generating key interest from the buyers as well. Without further ado, here is the list. There's something about Outfest this year that has participants kinda sorta ignoring the "Out" part. First, openly gay director Todd Holland recommended that "young, gay male actors" ought to stay in the closet (oldies, fatties, and ladies need not listen, we're guessing), an assertion he had to walk back days later. Now, The Opposite of Sex director Don Roos is throwing his hat in the ring. »

Variety reports that Cate Blanchett is set to star as Lady Edwina Mountbatten in Joe Wright's Indian Summer [1]. The film will follow the critical events during India's Independence from England. Lord Mountbatten [2](with Edwina in tow) is sent to oversee the transfer of power to India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru [3]in the summer of 1947. The script will be penned by William Nickolson (Elisabeth the Golden Age, Gulp!) Universal will distribute as filming begins early next year, with a release date that is likely to coincide with the 2010 awards season. Natalie Portman looks like Hollywood's hardest working star with seven upcoming productions between now and 2011. Later this year she will be in Don Roos' comedy Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, Mira Nair's segment in the star studded anthology New York, I Love You, and Jim Sheridan's Oscar pony Brothers. Adam of Club Silencio here with another look at my favorite actresses and their distinguishing claims to fame.
Dede: God. How does a woman get so bitter?
Lucia: Observation.
--The Opposite of Sex (1998)
My own bitter observation: "TV actresses" never get the love they deserve until they make that stealthy transition to the silver screen. Some may never get their due respect; like a Sarah Michelle Gellar - whose physical, comic and crushing turn as Buffy would ascend the cinematic heights of... magic crustaceans and dead Japanese kids baring the grudge of a Hollywood remake. (That was Bitter Observation #2.) For every damning P.S. I Love You, there's still Lisa Kudrow's savory sense of humor underlying all that manufactured bliss - and Hilary Swank being "girly and fun" (no one's buying it Warner Brothers.) Kudrow's characters balance well between TV and film. Either they're so confidently clueless that they couldn't care less, »

Lisa Kudrow's Streamy-nominated web series Web Therapy is coming back for a second season today on LStudio.com. Kudrow returns as online therapist Fiona Wallice known for her curt, questionably-legal three-minute patient sessions via iChat. A second season, even for a web series, means plenty of notable guest stars, including Kudrow's former Friends co-star Courtney Cox, who joins the cast for a few "sessions." Her three-episode run will debut on July 6th. Also on the chat-couch this time are Alan Cumming, Steven Weber, Julie Claire, Dan Bucatinsky, and Victor Garber. Kudrow has apparently been loving the chance to call her own shots with the project, as she once again works with producing partners Dan Bucatinsky and Don Roos (who also directs the series) at Is it or Isn’t It Entertainment.
