She sits on the Board of Trustees of her alma mater Spelman College.

Starred as "The Lady in Red" in the Alliance Theatre of Atlanta's production of the stage play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/when the Rainbow is Enuf" in 1980.

During the 1985-86 season of New York City's New Federal Theatre, she directed the Laurie Carlos play "Nonsectarian Conversations with the Dead".

Directed the Short Film "Hairstory" which was written by Tish Benson.

From 1977-1978 portrayed "the Lady in Red" in various U. S. cities in Ntozake Shange's Obie Award winning production "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf."
