Maggie Q, Award-winners At Hiff

28 October 2009 1:18 PM, PDT | Filmmaker Magazine - Blog | See recent Filmmaker Magazine news »

The Hawaii International Film Festival (Hiff) wrapped up its 29th incarnation this past weekend with encore screenings of its award-winning films and a closing night honoring of actress Maggie Q, who was on hand to introduce her newest film, Tian Zhuangzhuang’s fantasy swordplay epic The Warrior and the Wolf. A successful Hong Kong fashion model who morphed into a film career there and later in China and Hollywood (she’s appeared in such diverse films as Gen-y Cops, Rice Rhapsody, Three Kingdoms, and Live Free or Die Hard), Maggie Q (nee Maggie Quigley) is actually not from Hong Kong at all, or even Chinese; in fact, she’s half-Vietnamese and Polish/Irish, and was born and raised in Hawaii. After graduating high school in Honolulu she... »

King of Fighters int.

26 October 2009 4:16 AM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Wait, you’re telling me that there’s a King Of Fighters movie coming out starring Ray Park and Maggie Q? I’ve no idea how long this has been in development, but I’ll be damned if I’ve heard anything about it until this trailer/interview clip popped up on the internet. The film is directed by Gordon Chan (who we have to thank for The Medallion), and is exactly how you might imagine a hastily made King Of Fighters movie might look like. I can... »

'New York, I Love You': Out-Of-Towners, By Kurt Loder

16 October 2009 8:53 AM, PDT | MTV Movie News | See recent MTV Movie News news »

High-concept anthology gets lost in Gotham.

Orlando Bloom in "New York, I Love You"

Photo: Vivendi Entertainment

A revved-up writer (Ethan Hawke) improvises a mad rap for a beautiful stranger in the night (Maggie Q), only to learn she's uniquely immune to his come-on. Meanwhile, in a downtown bar, a sardonic professor (Andy Garcia) teaches some new tricks to an over-confident young thief (Hayden Christenson). And a geeky student (Anton Yelchin), dumped by his girlfriend (Blake Lively), winds up squiring a disabled blind date (Olivia Thirlby) to a big dance in her wheelchair — and then gets a wild surprise while rolling her back home.

The new mini-movie collection "New York, I Love You" has some cleverly turned stories and lively performances. But unlike its 2006 predecessor, "Paris, I Love You," it displays only an intermittent affinity for its target metropolis on the part of the 11 directors who weighed in on it. »

Seen on: October 12, 2009

The players: Directors: Shekhar Kapur, Joshua Martson, Mira Nair & more, Writers: Fatih Akin, Yvan Attal, Alexandra Cassavetes & more, Cast:  Justin Bartha, Maggie Q, Orlando Bloom, James Caan, Hayden Christensen, Blake Lively, Julie Christie...

Facts of interest: None.

The plot: Following the concept of "Paris, je t'aime," this film boasts several short films about love set in the beautiful city of New York.

Our thoughts: I absolutely love “New York, I Love You,” and I don’t just say that because I love New York as a city. Much like its beautiful predecessor “Paris, je t’aime,” this wonderful cinematic anthology of short films set in the Big Apple proves that especially genius screenwriting and strong acting can create a truly memorable big-screen experience. »

First Footage from Live-Action King of Fighters

9 October 2009 2:47 AM, PDT | Affenheimtheater | See recent Affenheimtheater news »

Beyond Hollywood has posted the first footage from the live-action adaptation of Snk’s video game series King of Fighters which shows some fighting and stunt scenes and some video interviews with director Gordon Chan (Painted Skin, Fist of Legend, Beast Cops) and actors Maggie Q, Sean Faris, Ray Park (Darth Maul from Star Wars: Episode I) and David Leitch blabbering the usual marketing Bs.

Despite Gordon Chan’s involvement, I don’t have much hope for this films after seeing how Hollywood just can’t get away from goofy leather costumes, CG overkill and Dragonball Evolution when it comes to video game adaptations…

First Footages from the King of Fighters Movie

8 October 2009 9:22 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Are we dealing with a “Dragonball” situation here? I don’t know, that’s up to you kids to decide. But here’s your first look at some behind-the-scenes footage from Gordon Chan’s upcoming “King of Fighters” (via YouTube). The movie is based on the popular videogame of the same name, and is headlined by Maggie Q. and Ray Park. It’s apparently about a bunch of people who goes to a parallel dimension where they compete in fighting tournaments and try to take down an evil tyrant played by Ray Park. Or something. I’m not sure how the CIA guy fits in there, though. It’s all very confusing, but then again, it is a movie based on a game, so I don’t suppose people were expecting grand storytelling. If anything, it looks and feels a lot like the “Mortal Kombat” movies, where the storyline is »

Bruce Willis Wants To Do More Die Hard-ing

6 October 2009 9:31 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

With Surrogates in theaters and enjoying a disappointing run, why wouldn't Bruce Willis want to return as John McClane in another Die Hard? Willis says it's all about the timing.

I would love to do another one but they better get it done soon, what with the march of time and all that. I'm not getting any younger.

Willis may be getting older, but he was spry enough to lift the fourth Die Hard installment, Live Free or Die Hard to $383 million worldwide. Around the time of Live Free's release, Willis told Cinematical that Fox was excited for another Die Hard.

Fox is already talking about doing another one. I told them I would only do it if [director] Len [Wiseman] is involved, and Maggie Q. And Justin [Long], of course. You can't do one without Justin.

Two years later, Willis must be getting anxious. Still, with older action stars like Sylvester Stallone »

Cam Gigandet Has 'Very Cool Weapons' in 'Priest'

5 October 2009 10:54 PM, PDT | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

The star of "Priest", Cam Gigandet, has claimed his character in the upcoming movie will be full armed. Being interviewed by MTV, the actor stated, "I have very cool weapons. I have an unbelievable knife; I have an unbelievable gun." Joking about his weapons, the 27-year-old hunk said with laugh, "I have a handgun that's humongous. I mean, I can barely even hold it up. I also have a big shotgun strapped to my back. Not too shabby."

Beside talking about the weapons, Cam, whose character will be shot riding on a motorcycle, also shared about his costumes in the vampire-western film. "I have just the coolest wardrobe. I have the leather coat and leather pants and lots of leather," he said of his biker-cowboy outfits, which make him feeling "very warm" when shooting his scenes under the sun. He then added, "But [wearing the clothes and riding on the bike] is definitely one of the coolest things »

Cam Gigandet Wields 'Unbelievable Knife; Unbelievable Gun' For 'Priest' Adaptation

5 October 2009 6:01 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Around these parts, we’re really looking forward to “Priest,” the currently-shooting adaptation of Min-Woo Hyung’s graphic novel series about mankind’s battle against fallen angels, starring such notables as Paul Bettany, Stephen Moyer, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, Christopher Plummer, Brad Dourif and Madchen (Loved you on "Twin Peaks!") Amick.

It also stars one of our recent on-screen faves, the fast-rising Cam Gigandet—and when we caught up with him recently, he said the flick was well-armed for success.

“I have very cool weapons,” he said of his character Hicks, who he has described as a boy “trying to become a man.” “I have an unbelievable knife; I have an unbelievable gun.”

With that kind of weaponry, and the badass motorcycles he clued us in to recently, it seems that Gigandet will have no problem earning his manhood on screen when the flick hits theaters next summer.

'New York, I Love You' Unleashes New Clip

2 October 2009 11:38 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

A brand new clip of "New York, I Love You" has been put forth in anticipation to the film's October release. Released at MySpace, the snippet takes a one minute plus look at the segment directed by Shekhar Kapur. It features a scene between Julie Christie's Isabelle and Shia Labeouf's Jacob inside an elegant hotel.

The segment follows Isabelle, an opera singer who checks into an elegant hotel to kill herself, as Variety claimed. She's intrigued by a handicapped bellboy, Jacob, who magically becomes associated with John Hurt's character. The piece is one of the last pieces of writing from the late director Anthony Minghella. When Minghella passed away, Kapur took over the directing part.

From the producer of "Paris, je t'aime", "New York, I Love You" is a collaboration of storytelling from some of today's most imaginative filmmakers from the acclaimed Mira Nair to newcomer to the job Natalie Portman. »

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: September 27, 2009

27 September 2009 2:26 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

This week:

The box office is still Cloudy; Neve Campbell Screams again; Dourif and Plummer confess to a Priest; TNT give some Basterd’s $12 million and Paul Dano decides to Cruise with Diaz.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs retained the top spot and banked another $24.6 million over the weekend. The animated tale has now made a pretty good $60 million so far.

Bruce Willis had to settle for the runner-up position for Surrogates. The comic book adaptation made a so-so $15 million despite a trim 88 minute running time.

The Fame remake grossed $10 million over the weekend. There’s really nothing that I can say about this.

The Informant brought in a little under $7 million on its second weekend giving the new Matt Damon/Steven Soderbergh team-up $20 million in the bank so far. Off a slim 33% percent from last week means that this looks to have some legs.

So if you’ve been waiting for the film, you can see a lot of it right now. If you’re not familiar with “New York, I Love You”, the film’s got a huge cast and eleven directors telling stories about New York City and love. Take a look:

An Amick, a Dourif, and a Plummer Walk into a Post-Apocalyptic Vampire Movie…

18 September 2009 9:23 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

No, it’s not the beginning of a really bad, naughty joke. It’s just another casting announcement. The latest word from the set of “Priest”, Scott Stewart’s post-apocalyptic Western tale of vampires, warrior priests, and Maggie Q., has the director tweeting that his film has added two more castmembers in Brad Dourif and Christopher Plummer. Variety, meanwhile, reports the old fashioned way (Internet posting is now old-fashioned, right?) that Madchen Amick has also joined the cast of “Priest”. On the Paul Bettany movie, Amick will play Shannon, the mother of a girl kidnapped by vampires led by Karl Urban. The girl also happens to be the niece of Paul Bettany’s warrior priest character, which sends him on a mission of retrieval and, failing that, vengeance. Lots of vampire blood is spilled in the process, one would imagine. No word on Plummer or Dourif’s roles, though considering their age and stereotyping, »
