He's our Paul Schrader, on an idiosyncratic journey, so why haven't my Us friends heard of Poliakoff?
Whenever my American friends ask me to name a good English director they've not heard of, I always push them towards the work of Stephen Poliakoff, whose Glorious 39 arrives this week. And those who take up my recommendation/challenge usually come back about three weeks later, after a bracing immersion in whatever traces of Poliakoff can be found in La's video stores, filled with gratitude and suddenly obsessed with Poliakoff's recurring themes: ancient family secrets, the power of images and documents to realign our understanding of histories both national and familial, and London as a city of secrets, forever yielding up surprises and shocks from its subterranean depths and farthest-flung outer suburbs; all somehow viewed by Poliakoff with the fresh-peeled eyeballs of a newly landed immigrant.
Poliakoff's American profile is diffuse and indistinct, »

Clive Owen Gets Back
By
Clive Owen is one of those actors that keep surprising you. Just when you think the audience, and the Hollywood establishment, has pegged him as an action hero, a leading man, or a romantic comedy pin-up, Owen pulls an about-face and does something unexpected.
It all started October 3, 1964 in Coventry, England. Owen’s father, a country music singer, abandoned the family when he was just three. His mother later remarried, with Clive and his four brothers raised by his mother and stepfather, who worked for British Rail. Owen has characterized those early years as "rough." A self-described “solidly working class” kid, Owen was bitten by the acting bug at age 13 and followed his dream to The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art several years later. Initially cutting his teeth on high-profile British television programs such as “Chancer” and “Sharman,” as well as art house »

Sin City 2 is coming and its been a non stop on and off as to when exactly we would get it. We have talked to Clive Owen and Rosario Dawson about the project in the past and each time the answer has been its coming soon. Today from Mania.com comes confirmation that Sin City 2 will be coming in 2010. They are saying that it will be an entirely original story which contradicts what Frank Miller has said earlier.
According to a writer on Wikipedia Frank Miller's 2nd foray into Sin City will have Nancy avenging Hartigans death by killing off the rest of the Roark family. This story apparently has been confirmed by Frank Miller.
There will be 2 more stories. One will be about Nancy avenging Hartigan's death by killing remaining members of the Roark family. Miller says this will show "a whole new side of Nancy. »

It has been long rumored that "Sin City 2" will kick off its production in 2010, and producer Stephen L'Heureux of Solipsist Films has recently confirmed the swirling speculation. In an interview with Comics2Film at Mania.com, the filmmaker gave an update to the start of production suggesting the sequel of "Sin City" will be done in the second half of 2010.
On the occasion, L'Heureux also set things straight on what the sequel will be based on. He mentioned that rather than drawing the story from "A Dame to Kill For", the rumored original comics material director Frank Miller produced a decade ago, this second movie in the "Sin City" series will be based on an original script written by Miller.
Beside talking about those plans, the producer also unraveled that Miller is working on a screenplay for "Hard Boiled". As for when the movie will be brought to life, »

The long-awaited "Sin City 2" will finally begin production in the second half of 2010, to be followed by a possible adaptation of Frank Miller’s "Hard Boiled."
According to a report on Mania, “Sin City 2” producer Stephen L'Heureux confirmed that the story will be based upon an original script by Miller, who will once again co-direct the sequel with Robert Rodriguez .
Additionally, L'Heureux revealed that Miller is writing the screenplay adaptation for “Hard Boiled”, which Miller is also attached to direct.
Originally published by Dark Horse in 1990, “Hard Boiled” paired Miller and artist Geof Darrow on an oversized three issue miniseries. The ultra violent story follows an insurance investigator named Carl Seltz who discovers that he is a cyborg who may be the only hope of an enslaved robot population.
However, with “Sin City 2” on deck and “Hard Boiled” still at an early stage of development, it may not happen immediately. »

Film adaptations of comic book visionary Frank Miller's 300 and Sin City graphic novels have generated more than $280 million at the box office, so it's not surprising that more of Miller's ideas will be coming to the big screen soon.
Back in June, director Zack Snyder announced his interest in making a sequel or prequel to 300, and in September actor Clive Owen, who played Dwight in Sin City, announced that a sequel to Sin City might be in the works. Also in September, it was announced that Sylvain White might be directing a 3-D adaptation of Miller's Ronin graphic novel.
Now, there's confirmation from producer Stephen L'Heureux of Solipsist Films that production on Sin City 2 will begin in late 2010 from an original script by Miller, who will co-direct with Robert Rodriguez. In a recent interview with Mania, L'Heureux also announced that another of Miller's graphic novels, Hard Boiled, is being developed for the screen. »

Clive Owen has reportedly claimed that he "instinctively" knows if he wants to work on a film. The 45-year-old actor, who recently revealed that he struggles to balance work and family, has said that he only agrees to work on a project if he's drawn to it. Owen told Bang Showbiz: "I don't set out to do something different each time I make a movie. I think at the end of the day, a career is made up of all the individual choices that I've made. It's been a busy month for the esteemed alumni of Friends. ABC picked up Courteney Cox's Cougar Town for a full season. Matt LeBlanc finally rebounded from Joey with a Showtime satire about the perils of stardom. According to IMDb, Jennifer Aniston has no less than seven projects in development. David Schwimmer is slated to direct a Clive Owen indie. And Matthew Perry is co-writing and exec producing a comedy series inspired by -- himself. Clive Owen and his wife Sarah-Jane Fenton were in London last night for the premiere of his family-oriented new film The Boys Are Back. She seems to join Clive only for his biggest events, as we saw her last at the opening of Duplicity in March. Their girls Hannah and Eve spent the school night at home, but Clive did make it a kid-friendly evening posing alongside young costar George MacKay. Clive recently opened up to us about his preferred parenting strategies, though last night he was able to give his expert dad skills an evening off. Here's a batch of casting news to tide you over until the next Page 2. Viola Davis, always a great actress and whose appearance in Doubt nearly owns the entire film, has taken two roles. One is in It's Kind of a Funny Story, where she'll work with...Zach Galifianakis? The film is about a depressed teen who checks himself into an adult psych ward. Davis will be his psychiatrist. If Galifianakis was playing the teen I'd be amazed, but that's not likely to be the case. The other film for Davis is Trust, which is not a remake of the great Hal Hartley film with the late Adrienne Shelley and Martin Donovan. Instead, this is David Schwimmer's next directorial effort, in which a teen girl is 'victimized by an adult who gained her trust posing as a teenager on a chat room." Clive Owen and Catherine Keener are already »

I recently talked about the addition of Catherine Keener and Clive Owen to the cast of David Schwimmer’s Trust, two casting decisions that I couldn’t be happier about. Now Schwimmer has added another cast member to his domestic drama: Viola Davis.
Though not a household name, Davis has been seen everywhere lately, from State of Play to Law Abiding Citizen to Madea Goes to Jail and the upcoming (horrendously titled) Knight & Day. According to Variety, Trust centers around “a family who must deal with the ramifications after their 14-year-old daughter is victimized by an adult who gained her trust posing as a teenager on a chat room. Davis will play the counselor assigned to the girl’s case.”
She has also joined the cast of the Zach Galifianakis film It’s Kind of a Funny Story, which sounds like an interesting turn for the comedic actor, as the »

Clive Owen knows "instinctively" if he wants to work on a film.
The 'Boys are Back' actor - who plays widower Joe Warr as he struggles to cope with life as a single parent in the tear-jerker - doesn't plan to work on different film genres and will only agree to a role if he is automatically drawn to it.
Speaking about his latest character, he told Bang Showbiz: "I don't set out to do something different each time I make a movie. I think at the end of the day, a career is made up of all the individual choices that I've made.
"It is literally an instinctive response. I respond to material instantly. I read shoot 'em up and I laughed all the way through and thought I wanted to do that film. I read this script, and I was interested in it for different reasons.
