Teaser Trailer - Micmacs à tire-larigot

21 September 2009 2:20 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Drawing on one of France's most popular screen stars, the incorrigible Dany Boon from the comedy mega hit Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis, as well as a cast of some of the country's best-known actors, including André Dussollier, Nicolas Marié, Jean-Pierre Marielle and Julie Ferrier, Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Delicatessen, City Of Lost Children, e Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain) returns with his latest film Micmacs a satire on the world arms trade. Judging by the trailer, this has got all the qualities audiences have come to love in Jeunet's previous films, a fantastical comedy from a world class director that is sure to not disappoint. Is it better to live with a bullet lodged in your brain, even if it means you might drop dead any time or would you rather have the bullet taken out and live the rest of your life as a vegetable? Are zebras white with black stripes or black with white stripes? »

Jean-Jacques Beineix: The Hollywood Interview

French filmmaker Jean-Jacques Beineix.

Jean-jacques Beineix:

Divas and Lions and Moons, Oh My!

By Alex Simon

The Noveulle Vague, or “French New Wave” was launched by a group of film critics and cinefiles who began France’s legendary Cahiers du Cinéma magazine in the 1950s. With Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless in 1959, the movement was launched, emphasizing behavior over aesthetics, content over form, and pastiche of other film genres (particularly those born in the U.S., with a healthy dollop of Italian neorealism) over the more traditional narratives of French films from years past. Francois Truffaut, Jacques Demy, Agnes Varda (see our interview with her below) Eric Rohmer, Claude Chabrol, and Jacques Rivette all fell under the spell of magazine co-founder and theorist Andre Bazin, laying the groundwork for a series of articles, monographs and critiques that formed the so-called “auteur theory,” (or more specifically “"La politique des auteurs" ("The policy of authors, »

Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Return: Micmacs A Tire-Larigot International Movie Trailer

29 June 2009 1:33 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

I don't put much stock in movie nostalgia, but I still remember how thrilled I was by my first viewing of Delicatessen over fifteen years ago. Even with the weak elements of the movie taken into consideration, the world realized within is still one I like going back to. So I've been eager for actual footage from Micmacs A Tire-Larigot, the first film from Jean-Pierre Jeunet since 2004's A Very Long Engagement. And now thanks to Twitch we have a teaser, after the jump. The film is being called a satire on the world arms trade. (And hopefully a better one than, say, Nic Cage's Lord of War.) Dany Boon leads the cast as a guy with a bullet in his brain; frequent Jeunet collaborator Dominique Pinon is in the cast as well, alongside André Dussollier, Nicolas Marié, Jean-Pierre Marielle and Julie Ferrier. More important, the aesthetic is pure Jeunet, »

First Looks at Jean-Pierre Jeunet's 'Micmacs a tire-larigot'

Photo: B. Calvo - Tapioca Films-Epithete Films Jean-Pierre Jeunet is best known to most as the director of Amelie, others add Delicatessen to the mix and then others remember his last film A Very Long Engagement, and believe it or not that was five years ago. Oh, some may also remember Alien: Resurrection, not sure where most of you fall on that one. Well, the wait for the next Jeunet feature is not too far off as his next film Micmacs a tire-larigot is set to hit French theaters on October 29, and hopefully not too long after here in the States with Warner Bros. currently holding distribution rights. The film is described as a satirical comedy looking at the world of weapons merchants and is said to be in the same vein as Amelie and Delicatessen. I have found a variety of plotlines around the Internet, but they are either extremely simplified or in French. »
