Conducted the first complete stereo recording of Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess", in 1976. (His recording was not considered a complete success, and was a studio performance not based on an actual stage production, unlike the Houston Opera's complete version. The Houston Opera production opened in 1976, played on Broadway, was released complete on LP in 1977 and CD in 1986, and was a spectacular success, although not the longest-running stage production of the work.)
