First off, the best news, as I predicted (in private) Duncan Jones' Moon will be premiering, yay! The comedy Adventureland starring the talented Bill Hader is playing. The sweet kid soldier film Johnny Mad Dog is playing in the spectrum section, and the Jesco White story White Lightnin' which we reported on earlier is in the Park City at Midnight section.
But where the hell is Stingray Sam?
Full list after the break.
Premieres
* "Adventureland," directed and written by Greg Mottola, stars Kristen Stewart, Ryan Reynolds and Bill Hader in the story of a college grad who gets a job at an amusement park. A Miramax release.
* "Brooklyn’s Finest," directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by Michael C. Martin, a drama about three Brooklyn cops who come together at the same deadly location. With Richard Gere, Ethan Hawke, Wesley Snipes, Don Cheadle and Ellen Barkin.

My final full day at the American Film Market pretty much confirmed what I’ve suspected all along here - that most distributors are holding their big titles back for Berlin - which made the pickings pretty slim in the screening rooms. This isn’t to say I didn’t see anything I liked - Happy Flight was more than solid and we can expect a review from James Hadfield out of Tokyo soon, and Elio Quiroga’s No Do proved once again that he is Spain’s master of high concepts and stunning effects executed on zero budget, though the film is not without some flaws - but most of the best stuff existed in promo-reel format only. And the top three?
Bronson. Yes, we’ve talked about Nicolas Winding Refn’s Bronson rather a lot here and, yes, we’re still in love with the trailer. We’re

I am on record here as repeatedly stating my belief that Armando Iannucci is quite simply the greatest political satirist in the world today. No offense to Jon Stewart - who I also love - or Stephen Colbert - who I enjoy but find more than a little gimmicky - or Canada’s Rick Mercer - everybody go out and find of copy of Talking With Americans Right Now! - who are the standard bearers for sharp satire on this side of the pond but none of that trio can hold a candle to either Chris Morris or Iannucci, both of whom have been driving their points home in brilliantly vicious fashion for years now. Any Steve Coogan fans out there? Well, you lot can thanks Iannucci, in great part, for Coogan’s fame as well since it was Iannucci who wrote and produced the bulk of Coogan’s breakthrough show I’m Alan Partridge.

Oh, it’s a good time to be a fan of UK comedian and political satirist Armando Iannucci. Not only is his feature film debut - The Thick of It spin off In The Loop - now in post production, but another project he has been shepherding along has just reached the pilot stage for BBC2. When we first mentioned the Iannucci-produced library sitcom Shush a good while back there were rumblings that the great Dylan Moran would be starring - a brilliant combination, that - and while that is no longer the case the show will be shooting a pilot for the Beeb on October 17th with stellar comedic actresses Morwenna Banks - an Iannucci and Steve Coogan veteran - and Rebecca Front - also an Iannucci vet - in the leads.
More Iannucci is always a good thing and you can find more info at the link below.

Is there anybody out there better at making fun of themselves than the British? Sure, lots of people are good at making fun of other people but when it comes to smart self-mockery it’s got to be the UK all the way. They’ve made the uncomfortable pause an art form unto itself over there, ditto the slip of the tongue and the absurdly hilarious dimwit taking himself far too seriously. Enter Jerzy Cannon. The creation of writer-director Guy Pearson as brought to life by co-writer Paul Meagher, Cannon is a would-be rock singer who never was. But that’s not stopping him from making his own feature film. Oh, no. Here comes Unsuccessful Failure: The Untold Story of Jerzy Cannon and it’s a pretty safe bet that if you’re at all fond of Steve Coogan or Armando Iannucci you’re going to want to check out the trailer below the break.
