Fox Drives Carefully To Keep Job
5 May 2008 (WENN)
Lost star Matthew Fox has a new reason to drive carefully - he could lose his job if caught flouting the highway code. Four characters on the hit show have been axed after a number of the actors portraying them were arrested by Hawaii police for unruly driving. And now Fox, who plays plane crash survivor Jack Shephard, hits the road with caution - for fear of being fired from the program. Fox says, "We've a running joke on the Lost set that anyone arrested for DUI (driving under the influence) gets killed off in the show. So I slow down now." DUI incidents have plagued the Lost cast in Hawaii - cast mates Cynthia Watros and Michelle Rodriguez both pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in January 2006 and April 2007 respectively. British actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje was also arrested for driving without a license and disobeying a police officer.

'Vantage Point' Given the Advantage
22 February 2008 (StudioBriefing)
From the vantage point of most box-office analysts, Sony's political thriller Vantage Point, will likely be the film to beat this weekend. A political thriller about an attempted assassination told from the point of view of characters played by Matthew Fox, William Hurt, Eduardo Noriega, Dennis Quaid, Sigourney Weaver, and Forest Whitaker, the film is expected to take in about $20 million. Three other new films are not expected to give it much competition. The New Line comedy Be Kind Rewind, starring Jack Black and Mos Def, opens in just 808 theaters and is likely to take in $8-11 million, say the forecasters. MGM's Charlie Bartlett, a comedy set in a high school but which is rated R because of drug references, is expected to wind up with $7-10 million; Witless Protection, which was not screened for critics, is arriving with what Daily Variety described as "understated" expectations.

Fox To Quit Smoking for Kids
28 March 2007 (WENN)
American actor Matthew Fox has vowed to quit smoking by the end of 2007- because the bad habit has left him cowering from his children. The Lost star, who has smoked cigarettes since he gave up chewing tobacco at university in the late 1980s, admits he hates the addiction - and resolves to quit each new year. He says, "I make the same one every year and I never keep it, but I've vowed that this will be the year when I quit smoking. I go through periods when I smoke a lot depending on how stressed I am. I feel terrible about it because I have kids and I try to hide it from them - but this is the year it's going to stop."

Movie Reviews: 'We Are Marshall'
22 December 2006 (StudioBriefing)
If the public reacts to We Are Marshall (starring Matthew McConaughey and Matthew Fox) the way many critics have, the film will come crashing down like the plane that carried 75 Marshall University players to their deaths in 1970. Jan Stuart in Newsday dismisses it as "a depressingly mechanical sports drama that seems not to have been written and directed so much as home assembled, Ikea-style, by pictorial instruction." Stephen Holden in the New York Times is one of numerous critics who call the film formulaic, adding that it "is nothing if not rah-rah. By the end of the movie, the three words of its title, which become the community's rallying cry, have been shouted into your ears so insistently you will never want to hear them again." Peter Howell in the Toronto Star writes that the movie "is so predictable, it makes the Capistrano swallows seem arbitrary and reckless by comparison." But Kevin Crust in the Los Angeles Times remarks that none of all that really matters. The film, he says, "will grab you by the face mask and make you take notice." Likewise Eleanor Ringel Gillespie writes in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:: "It's as predictable as the final Big Game, but director McG -- the one-name phenom who made something presentable out of Charlie's Angels -- applies that same audience-friendly expertise here."

'Lost' Stars To Be Turned Into Action Figures
29 May 2006 (WENN)
The stars of hit TV drama Lost are to be turned into action figures by toymaking giants McFarlane Toys. In a licensing agreement with Disney-ABC Television Group's Touchstone Television, McFarlane Toys will produce a series of action figures, which will be in stores at the end of the year. The first batch of six characters will feature Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly), Hurley (Jorge Garcia), Locke (Terry O'Quinn), Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) and Shannon (Maggie Grace). Each action figure will come complete with a detailed base and photographic backdrop, capturing an episode-specific moment in the character's story. McFarlane Toys boss Todd McFarlane recently spent time with the cast on location in Hawaii, where the desert island drama is filmed, to develop artistic likenesses of the stars. He says, "All of the key cast members were kind enough to allow me to scan their facial likenesses, so we can make the figures as realistic as possible. We now have the data. In the end, we hope to be able to re-create all of the major cast members. As the years go by, fans of the show will be able to collect their own society of Lost characters."

'Lost' Stars Get Massive Salary Increase
24 January 2006 (WENN)
The original cast members of award-winning hit TV show Lost have been offered a huge pay increase in exchange for extending their contracts by another year. Touchstone Television has promised the likes of Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan between $20,000 and $40,000 more per episode if they sign for a third series, pushing some salaries into the six figure bracket. Fox, who plays lead character Dr. Jack Sheppard, has reportedly earned a minimum $250,000 bonus on top of the salary hike. The raise puts Lost cast members in line with the stars of Desperate Housewives. Lost, which sees a group of plane crash survivors stranded on a tropical island, has one of the largest casts and production costs of any US drama series.

McConaughey Tops Sexiest Man Alive List
18 November 2005 (WENN)
Matthew McConaughey has been named People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive. McConaughey, 36, beat Desperate Housewives star James Denton, Lost actor Matthew Fox, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Terrence Howard and Vince Vaughn to the coveted top spot on the 2005 list, and will grace the cover of this week's publication. People magazine spokesman Julie Jordan insists Penelope Cruz's boyfriend was an easy choice for this year's list: "He's pretty much the perfect package." It seems Cruz has a talent for picking perfect men - her ex Tom Cruise was named People's Sexiest Man Alive in 1990.

'Lost' Stars Unhappy with Network Treatment
6 October 2005 (WENN)
TV hunk Matthew Fox is reassuring his Lost cast mates they will soon see financial rewards from starring in the hit show, after a handful of the actors complained they do not receive enough recognition. Some unnamed cast members of the desert island drama are unhappy to hear about the bonuses and gifts lavished on the stars of Desperate Housewives, which is broadcast on the same TV network, ABC. However, Fox is sure the Lost actors will soon be championed at the same level as Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross and their fellow Housewives, especially after Lost was named Outstanding Drama Series at last month's Emmys. He says, "The difference between how ABC has treated has treated Lost and Desperate Housewives has been night and day. There's a perception among the guys that we are busting out a*ses on the island and we weren't getting a lot of recognition for that. I've just told the cast to keep their heads down, stay positive and it will all work out in the end."

'Lost' Stars Raise Cash for Hurricane Victims
16 September 2005 (WENN)
The cast of hit TV show Lost joined forces to host a Hawaiian fundraiser on Saturday to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The event, which was organized by series star Harold Perrineau, was held in Waikiki and raised $20,250. Matthew Fox, who plays hunky surgeon Jack Sheppard in the show, says, "This is how we're trying to help. Raise some money and maybe, just maybe, ease someone's suffering. I have some friends down in Louisiana. It's been really tough on them."

Fox: "'Lost' Will Run and Run"
11 August 2005 (WENN)
Actor Matthew Fox has laughed off doubts TV desert island drama Lost has a limited future due to the nature of its plot, insisting it could go on for years. The screen hunk is convinced the series has years of success ahead of it, because despite the fact it is set on an isolated island, it has so many characters to explore. He says, "When we'd just done the pilot, everybody was asking, 'How do you make a series out of this?' All I kept thinking about was that I did 144 hours of a show (Party Of Five) about five people in a house in San Francisco, and you're going to tell me you have issues about making a long-term show out of 14 main characters, 46 survivors on an island, with this huge, epic story to be told? This show could easily do an eight-year run."

Lost About 'Lost'? DVD Plans To Fill the Gaps
6 July 2005 (StudioBriefing)
While many dramatic TV serials offer a recap during their season premiere, ABC will be offering viewers of its hit series Lost a chance to watch all of the episodes of the past season on DVD. Disney's Buena Vista Home Entertainment announced Tuesday that Lost: The Complete First Season, featuring a making-of documentary, comments from the cast and creators, and outtakes, will be available at DVD outlets on Sept. 6. The second season of Lost, starring an ensemble cast led by Matthew Fox, is scheduled to launch on Sept. 21.

UPN Unveils Fall Schedule
17 May 2002 (StudioBriefing)
UPN/CBS TV chief Les Moonves announced Thursday that next season's UPN slate will include two new dramas, including a revived "Twilight Zone," hosted by Forest Whitaker, and the thriller "Haunted," starring Matthew Fox (Party of Five). Also on tap will be the comedy "Half and Half," starring Rachel True (The Craft) and Essence Atkins (Smart Guy) as two half-sisters. At a presentation of the new programs in New York, Moonves denied reports that CBS intends to "repurpose" its programs on UPN. "We don't want UPN to be CBS 2," he said. "At the moment, we have no plans to repurpose anything."
