The Final Destination DVD / Blu-ray Delayed Until 2010

14 September 2009 8:57 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

People looking to enjoy their death trip at home instead of theatres with David R. Ellis' The Final Destination are going to have to wait a little longer than expected to get their hands on this flick with all of its digital bits intact.

Originally slated for a street release on December 22nd, 2009, Warner Home Video has just announced that the flick will instead be in stores on January 5, 2010. It's a bummer we won't have the carnage in-hand to lovingly place in the Christmas stockings of those who are deserving, but a couple of weeks isn't too long to wait.

Look for official specs and artwork soon.

Synopsis

On what should have been a fun-filled day at the races, Nick O'Bannon (Bobby Campo) has a horrific premonition in which a bizarre sequence of events causes multiple race cars to crash, sending flaming debris into the stands, brutally killing his »

'The Final Destination' Rules Labor Day Box Office

7 September 2009 7:22 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

As predicted, "The Final Destination" pushed through the Labor Day weekend atop the North American box office. Having secured its #1 place at the chart for a second consecutive week over the three-day weekend, the Warner Bros.' 3D horror-fest stayed strong on the top position with $15.3 million that was counted from September 4 to 7.

With the additional Labor Day tally, the fourth chapter in the horror series has lifted its total earning to $50.4 million after only eleven days in theaters. That made this David R. Ellis-directed thriller to be well on track in becoming the franchise's highest grossing film, as it will easily beat 2006's "Final Destination 3" bow of $54.1 million.

Overseas, "Destination" has narrowly outgrossed "Inglourious Basterds" and took over the #1 international box office title from the Quentin Tarantino's World War II epic. Although estimated to log in at $14 million on Sunday, September 6, it came up with a »

Box Office Beat Down: The Final Destination Pulls in Another $12.4 Million

6 September 2009 5:25 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Weekend Box Office:

1) The Final Destination $12.4 million

2) All About Steve $11.2 million

3) Inglourious Basterds $10.8 million

4) Gamer $9 million

5) District 9 $7 million

6) Halloween II $5.6 million

7) Julie & Julia $5.2 million

8) G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra $5.1 million

9) The Time Traveler's Wife $4.2 million

10) Extract $4.1 million

The highest grossing summer in box office history came to an end this holiday weekend, not with a whimper or a bang, but with a modest cull that was neither surprising nor disappointing. For the second week in a row, Warner Brothers' fourth installment of their popular Death franchise The Final Destination, directed by David R. Ellis, came in first with $12.4 million. With the film continuing to do so well in 3D, we can certainly expect that this won't be the "final" installment of this long running horror series. The film has made $47.5 million to date, with even more coin to be added after this Labor Day weekend calls it a close. »

The Final Destination 3-D

The Final Destination 3-D

Directed by: David R. Ellis

Cast: Bobby Campo, Shantel VanSanten, Nick Zano

Running Time: 1 hr 25 mins

Rating: R

Release Date: August 28, 2009

Plot: A young whippersnapper (Campo) and a few of his friends (VanSanten, Zano) escape death when he has a premonition of a disaster at a race track. “Death” then spends the rest of the movie picking the survivors off piece by piece.

Who’s It For? The teenage horror movie-going crowd that is aware they’re going to end up laughing at a movie they secretly want to frighten them. But there’s nothing funny about dropping more than a few pennies to spend time in a black hole known as The Final Destination.

Expectations: Following the bloody footsteps of its predecessors, I secretly had my fingers crossed that this would have inventive Rude Goldberg traps with actual intelligence used in their set-up and follow through. »

The Final Destination Review

30 August 2009 8:20 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Much like the title, The Final Destination is more of the same from a tired series of gore and gimmicks.  If you’ve seen any of the three Final Destination movies, you’re already aware of the franchise’s formula.  If you haven’t seen them, then there’s no reason to start now.

The fourth installment employs the once clever game of “Mouse Trap for Sadists,” a Rube Goldberg style sequence of unfortunate coincidences ending with another meaningless offing.  Dominoes are in full effect, but here when the last one falls someone has to clean up a bloody mess.

This time around David R. Ellis (who directed part 2 and Snakes on a Plane) tosses in another trick with the use of 3-D.  Objects fly from the screen, but none of them pop with any additional enjoyment (unless this is your first three-dimensional flick).  It’s an unimaginative device for »

H2 vs Tfd at the Box Office: Death (and Michael Myers) Defeat Michael Myers

30 August 2009 5:29 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The (almost) final weekend box office numbers are in, confirming our earlier report that David R. Ellis' The Final Destination had emerged as the champ in its battle against Rob Zombie's Halloween II. The numbers? $28.3 million (a whopping $9,079 per screen) for Tfd (no doubt benefiting from its 3D price bump) and $17.4 million (a much smaller average of $5,754) for H2.

It was the best opening yet for a Final Destination film, but Zombie was about $9 million below his 2007 version.

Adding insult to injury for H2, another Michael Myers stole a bit of its thunder. Yes, Inglourious Basterds, in which the Austin Powers star has a cameo, came in at No. 2, pushing Tyler Mane's Myers down to third place. But, as we also learned a bit earlier today, there's no need to shed any tears for The Shape since a 3D third chapter has already been greenlit for summer, 2010. Sigh. »

Weekend Box Office: Hii Vs. Tfd

30 August 2009 10:44 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

The weekend box office estimates have started rolling in, and Death has beaten Michael Myers in the first-weekend showdown, while overall both films made a killing.

David R. Ellis' The Final Destination took home an estimated $28.3M on 3,121 screens, which Variety notes was largely based on the upcharge for a 3-D ticket. Rob Zombie's Halloween II snagged $17.4M on 3,025 screens, taking third place behind Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, which continued clubbing the competition to take home $20M.

This past Friday night, Fangoria Radio welcomed both Ellis and Zombie to the show to discuss their films. While Zombie maintained his usual cool demeanor, Ellis sounded a bit sloshed (audio coming soon), perhaps due to nerves or celebration? When asked what he was drinking by Fango's Dee Snider, the Snakes On A Plane director stated "nothing."

We'll have highlights from both interviews coming to Fangoria.com later this week, so stay tuned. »
