Alynda Wheat's Beat Cop: The Last Patrol

6 November 2009 9:58 AM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

There’s no way I’m going to get this right. We never say precisely what we ought to when we part, the words are never perfect enough — not even for those of us who get paid to write them…or used to, anyway. I’m sorry to say that this is the last time we’ll walk the Beat together as I'm leaving EW. So I’ll tell you what, Coppers, let’s save the hugs for the end, stuff down the tears (I grant that they’re probably all mine), and take a stroll. I’m ready if you are. »

Welcome to your Tuesday morning television briefing. Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is reporting that Bones' 100th episode will in fact be a flashback episode to reveal the first time that Emily Deschanel's Temperance Brennan and David Boreanaz's Seeley Booth worked together. "We’ll be there for the first time those two personalities clashed, Bones executive producer Stephen Nathan told Ausiello. "Events will conspire to make them come out of the case hating each other and vowing that they will never work together again... We’ll also see the introduction of Angela and the genesis of her friendship with Brennan." (Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello Files) Maggie Grace is confirmed to be returning for Lost's sixth and final season, according to TV Guide Magazine. She'll return to Oahu next month to reprise her role as Shannon Rutherford, who was last seen on the series in 2005. "Producers had invited Maggie back earlier, »

Alynda Wheat's Beat Cop: 'Law and Order' or high and mighty?

20 October 2009 1:34 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Law & Order is touchy. Maybe it’s age—after all the show is an admirably ancient 20 years old, which in TVworld means Willard Scott should’ve offered them congratulations about five seasons back. But this past episode had the reigning Queen Mum of procedurals wagging a bony finger in all sorts of directions, including—perhaps unwittingly—its own. The ripped headline was actually a hybrid, as they do more frequently these days, of Gosselin greed and Octomom blind ambition. (I suppose the Duggars were spared because they haven’t catapulted lawyers at each other…yet.) The “Jon” (Jim Gaffigan) of »

Alynda Wheat's Beat Cop: A moment of silence for 'Southland'

9 October 2009 2:55 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Let’s bow our heads for a moment of silence. As we learned last night, NBC snuffed out one of our favorite procedurals, the gritty, fantastically acted Southland. You’d think shoving Jay Leno down our throats for five hours of primetime would be injury enough, but no—they had to add insult. This, NBC. This is why TV viewers are dropping network for cable in ever-greater numbers. Viewers know cable offers the kind of risky, investment-heavy programming that’s rare on network television these days, and what’s better, cable will actually stick with it. Take a show like Mad Men. »

Synopsis & Promo Photos – Bones 5.05 "A Night at the Bones Museum"

6 October 2009 8:33 AM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Bones goes formal for episode 4×05 "A Night at the Bones Museum", airing October 15th.  We've got another murder connected to the Jeffersonian (such a dangerous place to work, if you ask me) and Brennan goes on a date with someone else connected to Booth (not his brother, but it'll probably get to him).  Check out the synopsis and promo photos below, courtesy of Fox.

Brennan And Booth’S Latest Case Could Change History

Brennan and Booth are called to investigate what appears to be human remains on an electrical fence. The mysterious corpse is later determined to be a mummified Egyptian royal on loan to the Jeffersonian. The anthropological mystery has Brennan in a tizzy, when the Jeffersonian curator prepping the mummy for exhibition is murdered, the team suspects foul play. Brennan’s investigation of the curator sheds new light on the life of the Egyptian royal, turning their case into one of historic proportions. »

'Bones' recap: The prodigy son

2 October 2009 7:37 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

I'm subbing in for Mandi this week. I'll admit upfront: I'm a Bones latecomer. I once thought it was just another procedural, left over from the mid-decade glut of CSI rip-offs (like Crossing Jordan or Medical Investigation). But then my girlfriend got me into the Booth/Brennan supernova-hot chemistry. People compare them to past TV will-they-or-won't-they couples like Moonlighting's David and Maddie, but their flirtatious one-upmanship more resembles the love-as-a-competition backbiting in classic Howard Hawks movies. Yes, half the dialogue on the show is scientific bio-babble; yes, the visual style is somewhere between monochrome noir and Law & Order handheld verité; and yes, »
