Hoax Provokes Lawsuit Threat By Jenny Mccarthy

10 November 1997 | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Media hoaxer Alan Abel apparently failed to find anyone in the press or TV to bite on his latest stunt, a press release announcing the introduction of "Jenny's Pint o'Pee, " a take-off on Jenny McCarthy's ads for Candie's shoes, in which she is seen sitting on a toilet. The release quotes "entrepreneur" Ron Kershman (actually Abel's cohort) as saying, "This product will surpass the pet rock craze several decades ago." According to the New York Post, the release did ignite the ire of McCarthy's lawyer, Stanton L. Stein, who threatened a lawsuit and stated in a letter to Abel that the announcement was likely to "confuse consumers into believing that Ms. McCarthy approved or is affiliated with your vulgar and offensive product."
