tMF Launchpad: Is Aaron Johnson the next British star to conquer Hollywood?

10 October 2008 7:31 PM, PDT | From The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news

I have a huge passion for acting but I'm interested in variety, both in the characters I play and the kinds of films I'm involved with, says the 18-year-old British actor, Aaaron Johnson. There is always a constant supply of pretty faces aspiring to star in movies. But only a few of these pretty boys and girls can really make it big-time. I've heard a lot of buzz regarding Aaron Johnson for his role in the British teen flick, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0963743/). That got me curious, and to my surprise, he's also the same young actor who played Eisenheim in The Illusionist. If a small role in the Edward Norton starrer impressed me, what more if its a prominent role? Here's more: Aaron recently appeared as Robbie 'the hottie' in Gurinder Chadha's movie Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging and at 18 has buckets of potential.

Cinematical Seven: The Funniest Ladies of 2008

7 October 2008 8:02 PM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

While I'm sure we'll all agree that these past few years have given us some wonderful little comedic gems, it's often unfortunate to see most of the attention thrown at one particular sex, or, in some cases, one particular man: Judd Apatow. But this post won't be about Judd Apatow, or Seth Rogen ,or Jonah Hill, or Michael Cera, or Will Ferrell, or Adam McKay, or Vince Vaughn, or Owen Wilson, or Kevin Smith ... or any of the male names that currently populate (and dominate) some of your favorite comedies. Nope, because it's about damn time we give the ladies some respect.

I'm sick of the female roles in comedies today. She's either the bland girlfriend, or the bland friend, or the bland enemy -- she's full of cliches, and only serves two purposes: 1) to help move the story along, and 2) to make her male counterpart appear funnier. That said,

24 September 2008 8:07 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

"Cars 2" will be arriving sooner than its original schedule. At the Walt Disney Studio Showcase at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood on Wednesday, September 24, Disney Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter has come out with a statement that the "Cars" sequel which has "Ratatouille" producer Brad Lewis attached as director has been pushed forward from its 2012 date to 2011.

Aside from announcing the new release plan, the director/writer for the first animated movie about the hotshot rookie race car finding the true meaning of life also shared that the second movie has been inspired by his experiences traveling the world for "Cars" publicity. Hence, in the new film, Mater the red tow truck will get his passport and join Lightning McQueen in a new adventure that put them in weird traffic situations and with strange foreign automobiles around the globe.

Willis wants Belle

24 September 2008 12:14 PM, PDT | From JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news

Last week, we told you about Bruce Willis making his feature directorial debut with the psychological thriller THREE STORIES ABOUT JOAN. At the time, all we knew was that Willis was directing and starring in the film alongside Owen Wilson and Kieran Culkin. Well, it seems Willis has found his leading lady and it's in the form of stunning, sultry brunette Camilla Belle. She'll portray the titular Joan in a story about the three phases of her life that prompt her to lose her grip on reality....

Owen Wilson is a Blood Brother

21 September 2008 8:00 PM, PDT | From MoviesOnline.ca | See recent MoviesOnline news

According to our very good friends at TheMovieBlog Owen Wilson will take a stab into the horror genre with a brand new horror comedy called Blood Brothers. The synopsis according to them goes like this;

The story revolves around two best friends, one a vampire and the other a mortal human. Wilson will be playing the straight man, so to speak, and he will have to deal with the blood thirst of his best buddy.

Sounds like it could be alot of fun and for a change... its not a remake.

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: September 21, 2008

21 September 2008 7:20 AM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

This week:

There is a box office round-up and we check out Viggo Mortensen’s involvement in The Hobbit; Jude Law teams up with Sherlock Holmes; David Duchovny and Demi Moore keep up with The Joneses; Owen Wilson bites back in Blood Brothers and Jason Statham eyes The Grabbers.

Box Office

Samuel L. Jackson looks set to arrest the number one spot with the thriller Lakeview Terrace. The film should capture around $15 million over the weekend. If you thought that the film was good or if it looks interesting I’d recommend checking out Kurt Russell’s Unlawful Entry or the 1951 film The Prowler.

Meanwhile Burn After Reading should nestle in the number two position with around $11 million. The Coen brothers seem to be on a pretty good roll, with the George Clooney/ Brad Pitt flick having a total cume of $35 million. Word of mouth on Righteous Kill appears to

Owen Wilson In A Vampire Buddy Comedy

18 September 2008 9:57 PM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

Ghost Town is getting great reviews (including one from me), and so the movie's corporate papa bear Spyglass Entertainment is keen to do more comedic twists on the horror genre. The guys over at Blood Disgusting say they're planning a vampire comedy, with Owen Wilson in the lead. It's called Blood Brothers, and as the title suggests it is a buddy comedy. BR claims it's a buddy comedy between a man and a vampire, but the official plot synopsis from Spyglass seems to indicate it's simply two vampires. Whichever it is, Owen Wilson is also producing the film, so he'll probably get first pick when it comes to casting. Here's the official plot synopsis for Blood Brothers, direct from Spyglass: "In this buddy comedy two of the last vampires on earth, who have been friends for over a thousand years and have experienced all of recorded history together, are now

Owen Wilson w/ fangs?

18 September 2008 4:21 PM, PDT | From JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news

Owen Wilson has been sticking with the funny on-screen for a while, but is he ready to mix it up with a bit of hemoglobin? According to Bloody Disgusting, Wilson and his miracle nose will star in a horror-comedy called BLOOD BROTHERS, described only as a "buddy comedy about a man and a vampire". No word on whether Wilson will wear the extended incisors, or who his (possibly undead) chum will be. Wilson, who'll next be seen in the NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM sequel, is also producing the...

Owen Wilson to Topline Vampire Buddy Comedy

18 September 2008 2:14 PM, PDT | From bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news

Spyglass Entertainment is prepping a new horror-comedy after the good buzz surrounding their latest effort, GHOST TOWN, which hits theaters tomorrow. Entitled BLOOD BROTHERS, the film is set to star Owen Wilson in a buddy comedy involving a man and a vampire. Wilson will produce the pic, which sounds like it can go either way (although I wouldn't put my chips on Wilson anymore). It doesn't helpt that Spyglass was the production company behind THE INVISIBLE, STAY ALIVE and a shrew of other terrible films (although they did bring us THE SIXTH SENSE). Watch for more on this as it comes in.

Bruce Willis Adds Hyphen, Now Actor-Director

Bruce Willis has been a movie star for 20 years or so and in that time, he's never stepped behind the camera. That's about to change with Three Stories about Joan.

According to the Shreveport Times (via Cinema Blend), Willis will direct Three Stories and co-star with Owen Wilson and Kieran Culkin. It's a psychological thriller written by Sam Appelbaum and Chris Alexander, and it will be shot in Louisiana, where every fourth movie is being made these days, or so it seems.

Bruce Willis Tries Directing

17 September 2008 1:01 AM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

Bruce Willis is about to direct his first movie, and it doesn't sound like it'll have anything to do with him fighting terrorists. Actually, from the title it sounds like something that might star Debra Winger. According to the Shreveport Times, he's helming a movie called Three Stories About Joan, which he'll also star in along with Owen Wilson and Kieran Culkin. It's a psychological thriller, which like so many recent films, will shoot in Louisiana, aka Bayouwood. And that's really all we know about the project. No word on what it's about or what part any of the actors involved will play in it. Louisiana is inherently creepy though, and it is a psychological thriller, so maybe that means ghosts... or at least an old, possibly haunted house.

Hudson 'Grateful' For Robinson Friendship

17 September 2008 12:04 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Kate Hudson is grateful she has maintained a friendship with ex-husband Chris Robinson - because it makes their son happy.

The couple split in 2006 after six years of marriage and have a four-year-old son, Ryder.

After numerous failed relationships with stars including Owen Wilson and Lance Armstrong, Hudson is now living with Robinson and their child in California.

And Hudson believes the living arrangements are the best remedy for their son's happiness.

The actress tells U.S TV host Ellen DeGeneres, "It's such a shame when people let their egos get in the way of what's the most important thing. I feel like a lot of time someone's pride is affected when a relationship ends.

"For me it feels like this isn't about me or (Chris). We did it the right way, which is we knew it wasn't right (to stay together) so we wanted it to be great for Ryder and we got a happy, happy boy.

"We spend a lot of time together. We love our baby. With both of us working all the time and away and travelling it makes it great for Ryder."

Woman Sentenced After Dangerous Wedding Crashers Gag

16 September 2008 9:08 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Owen Wilson's film Wedding Crashers has been blamed for inspiring a New York woman to poison her housemate by putting eye drops in his iced tea.

The prank is depicted in the 2005 comedy, where Wilson's character squirts the solution into a love rival's drink - causing a potentially fatal concoction that constricts blood vessels when ingested.

Kristine Anzalone, 25, was sentenced to three years' probation and ordered to pay her victim's medical expenses after pleading guilty to misdemeanour assault.

But Joseph Gentissi, the victim of the 2006 incident, is dissatisfied with the ruling.

He tells the New York Post: "It's not fair. This is a woman who tried to poison me. She should have been charged with attempted murder. We were hoping she was going to get a strong sentence. She took it as a big joke. She set out to hurt me and she sure did."

A spokesperson for Wilson could not be reached as WENN went to press.
