Mother and Child No Longer Up For Adoption

2 November 2009 3:42 PM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they've picked up the Tiff hit Mother and Child starring Annette Bening, Naomi Watts, Samuel L Jackson and Kerry Washington. The Rodrigo García adoption drama prompted more than one pundit to declare that The Bening would most definitely be back in the Best Actress Oscar race. But the press release makes no promises about when Spc would be showing off their new bundle to the public.

Kerry Washington and Shady Naomi Watts work it out in San Sebastian, promoting Mother and Child

Sadly we'll have to assume it's not for another year (sigh... All these movies completed and placed on shelves). After all, Spc is already octomom of the Oscars for 2009. So very fertile they are. Eldest children include: An Education, Moon and Coco Before Chanel. But there's a whole litter about to drop (and now I promise I'll quit with this pregnant metaphor): The White Ribbon, »

The Name Game: Down With Nouns

30 October 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | People - CelebrityBabies | See recent People - CelebrityBabies news »

Thinking outside the box when it comes to naming babies goes part and parcel with being a celebrity, and in their search to come up with the perfect moniker some have clearly pushed that envelope more than others. According to nameberry.com co-founder Linda Rosenkrantz, word names are an increasingly popular way to do just that.

“When looking for a really unusual baby name, many celebrities have started to search the dictionary for a noun or adjective that will define their child, choosing words that have rarely, if ever been used before as people-names,” she explains.

Harrison Ford’s Extraordinary Measures opens January 22, 2010

When’s the last time Harrison Ford has had a hit. I say Indiana Jones doesn’t count because that’s more of a branding or event than actually getting to see Ford act. Here’s the answer … It’s been almost a decade. What Lies Beneath with Michelle Pfeiffer. Here comes a play on words sure to annoy all … Maybe it’s an extraordinary measure to expect Ford to hit it big at the box office withouth the whip. We’ll find out in January.

Here’s the official news release …

CBS Films announced Monday that due to an overwhelmingly positive response from test audiences, they are moving up the release date for ‘Extraordinary Measures’ from spring to January 22, 2010, making the film the studio’s first release. The movie, starring Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser, was the studio’s first feature to go into production. »

A Peek at Brendan Fraser's Extraordinary Dramatic 'Measures'

9 October 2009 12:30 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Rejoice! It's time for another one of those rare moments where we get to talk about Brendan Fraser acting in a drama -- one that should get him a little more recognition than the smaller dramatic bits and thrillers he's taken on recently. See, he's co-starring with Harrison Ford in a pic called Extraordinary Measures, and the still above is the first from the film (via Cinema Blend).

Based on a true story (optioned by Ford), the film follows a couple whose two youngest children were diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder called Pompe disease. Rather than take things as they were, John Crowley quit his job and created a startup research company to help make advances that could help his children. (The C.B. link has a whole featurette sort of deal on the family.) Fraser plays Mr. Crowley, Keri Russell has the role of his wife, and Ford plays »

See a touching featurette from CBS Films' "Extraordinary Measures" which sees theartres on March 19th, 2010. The screenplay is written by Robert Nelson Jacobs based on the book "The Cure" written by Geeta Anand. Tom Vaughan helms and Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser, Keri Russell and Courtney B. Vance star. In the tradition of great inspirational dramas like the Academy Award nominated film “Erin Brockovich” and “The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Extraordinary Measures” is inspired by the true story of John Crowley, a man who defied conventional wisdom and great odds, and risked his family's future to pursue a cure for his children's life threatening disease. »

First Image and Featurette from Extraordinary Measures Starring Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser and Keri Russell

8 October 2009 3:15 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

CBS Films has sent over the first image and a first look featurette from director Tom Vaughan’s (”Starter for 10,” “What Happens in Vegas”) “Extraordinary Measures”. The film stars Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser and Keri Russell and it’s inspired by the true story of John Crowley, a man who defied conventional wisdom and great odds, and risked his family’s future to pursue a cure for his children’s life threatening disease. While the featurette is mostly the real John Crowley talking about his story, at the end Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser say a few words. While this kind of movie might not appeal to all of you, with the cast involved, I thought it was worth sharing. I’m hoping with Tom Vaughan directing it’ll be more than a movie of the week. Take a look at the image and featurette after the jump. “Extraordinary Measures »

Dreamy Nathan Fillion Talks Trucker

8 October 2009 3:00 AM, PDT | TribecaFilm.com | See recent Tribeca Film news »

Nathan Fillion has a rakish, confident, real-man presence that is completely refreshing, partially due to the fact that manliness is an increasingly rare quality in actors. Joss Whedon put it to good use in the cowboy sci-fi cult series Firefly, its film adaptation Serenity, and the writer's strike online hit Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog (where Fillion played 'Captain Hammer'), and ABC has been taking advantage of him lately with roles on Desperate Housewives and a lead on the show Castle. In James Mottern's Trucker, which premiered at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival, Fillion is in a supporting role as Runner, the best friend of Michelle Monaghan's titular trucker, Diane Ford. It's a relationship that takes turns both familiar and surprising, and Fillion and Monaghan have a chemistry not unlike his doctor/patient heat with Keri Russell in Waitress. We got Fillion to take a break from his presumably »

Keri Russell, cutie son River and her husband Shane Deary were out and about for a sunny Sunday afternoon walk in Brooklyn. River still has his flowing long hair just like daddy while Keri and Shane were matching in their t-shirts and jeans. Keri's cuffed denim and loose top are a uniform these days - looks like her little one is taking after his parents already. Keri's still has a bit of time off before she has to promote her next project or report to set and what better way to spend some free time than with her handsome boys Shane and River. Tiff #10: Philosophy, pot, murder, poetry

17 September 2009 9:58 AM, PDT | blogs.suntimes.com/ebert | See recent Roger Ebert's Blog news »

It was my last film of the festival, on the morning of the day I was flying home, and it turns out to have been my favorite one. Tim Blake Nelson's "Leaves of Grass" is some kind of sweet, wacky masterpiece. It takes all sorts of risks, including a dual role with Edward Norton playing twin brothers, and it pulls them off. It is certainly the most intelligent, philosophical and poetic film I can imagine that involves five murders in the marijuana-dealing community of Oklahoma and includes John Prine singing "Illegal Smile."

Tim Blake Nelson

Sometimes you cannot believe your luck as a movie unfolds. There is a mind behind it, joyful invention, obvious ambition. As is often the case, I had studiously avoiding reading anything at all about "Leaves of Grass" before going to see the movie, although I rather doubted it would be about Walt Whitman. What »

Toronto 2009: Edward Norton Talks to Himself

16 September 2009 12:56 PM, PDT | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

"I walk around talking to myself anyway," Edward Norton told the packed Ryerson Theater after Monday's premiere of "Leaves of Grass" at the Toronto Film Festival. "Maybe this was just the way to get paid for it." Although the "Fight Club" star's played a few characters with dual personalities, this new comedy from Tim Blake Nelson marks the first time Norton has played two distinct characters. The Kincaid twins have gone their separate ways in life -- Bill is a well-liked philosophy professor at Brown, while Brady is a deceptively smart hydroponic weed dealer. The brothers reunite when the straitlaced Bill returns home under the pretense Brad has died, only to discover that he's been unwittingly enlisted in one of his sibling's elaborate criminal schemes.

For Nelson, whose previous work behind the camera has dealt with heavy themes of small-town violence ("Eye of God") and the Holocaust ("The Grey Zone »

J.J. Abrams: Pop-culture polymath

4 September 2009 12:32 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Welcome back to our EW University course on TV Auteurs -- a look at some of the people who have had a major role in shaping the medium over the last 50 years. Today, Prof. Dan Snierson offers his overview of the work of J.J. Abrams. If you had to sum up J.J. Abrams neatly in just one word, it would be ...  kinda hard to do. He’s a cross-genre, multi-medium hyphenate who flies a geek flag of many colors. (The boy who grew up on The Twilight Zone, Mission Impossible, Get Smart, James Bond, and Star Wars has crafted a TV resume that boasts credits as diverse as Felicity and Fringe; his movie credits range from Regarding Henry to Cloverfield.) His projects tend to be smart, layered, splashy, angsty, laced with mystery and/or mythology -- plus they just might contain an It Girl in the making (see: Keri Russell, »

Tiff Picks 09: Tim Blake Nelson's Leaves of Grass

3 September 2009 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- #20. Leaves Of Grass Director: Tim Blake NelsonCast: Edward Norton, Susan Sarandon, Keri Russell, Richard Dreyfuss, Tim Blake NelsonDistributor: Rights Available. Buzz: Everyone's looking forward to Ed Norton times 2, and I think the movie gods from above will shine on this title. His last film, The Grey Zone had the misfortune of preeming on September, 11th and you guessed it, 2001. Should be a title that sells during the fest.   The Gist: Norton is portraying twin brothers, one an Ivy League philosophy professor, the other a small-time and brilliant marijuana grower. The professor is lured back to his Oklahoma hometown for a doomed scheme against a local drug lord (Dreyfuss) that unravels his life. Sarandon plays the brothers' eccentric mother, while Russell will play a love interest. Nelson is playing a best friend to one of the brothers. Tiff Schedule: Click here for screening times   ... »

She's all about her solo strolls these days, though soon she'll be trading the NYC sidewalks for those of Toronto when she heads up to that city's film festival next month to support her film Leaves of Grass. Keri also just wrapped up work on the thriller Crowley with Harrison Ford, though that one won't be hitting screens until next Spring. View 5 Photos › »

Exclusive: 'Felicity,' 'Wire' alums join 'Brothers & Sisters'

Brothers & Sisters has tapped the sublime Amy Aquino — she was Dr. Coburn on ER and Keri Russell's no-nonsense, chain-smoking shrink on Felicity (loved her!) — for a multi-episode arc, sources confirm to me exclusively. Additionally, Peter Gerety (Homicide, The Wire) is joining the cast for several episodes. Aquino will play a doctor (spoiler alert!) treating a member of the Walker clan who shall remain nameless. Gerety, meanwhile, will appear as a "surprising outsider," according to (ironically enough) an insider. »
