Private Practice Round Table: "The Hard Part"

13 November 2009 1:24 PM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

The most recent installment of Private Practice drew mixed reviews from our staff - as our review of "The Hard Part" made quite clear. Now it's time to explore deeper.

Below, our staff breaks down some of the burning questions from last night's episode our Private Practice Round Table discussion. Here's how our panel saw it ...

1. What was your favorite Private Practice quote from the episode?

The Barnacle: Ooh, tough one. Anything with Pete and Sheldon, but specifically when they passive-aggressively bash the type of medicine the other practices.

Dr. Shepherd: The Addison-Sam exchange of "You're not Naomi" and "You're not Derek." So cheesy, so Shonda. Not sold on them as a couple but love 'em both.

M.L. House: No single line stands out but I thought the woman who played Kara was terrific. I couldn't believe she didn't make it after all of that. So Sad.

2. Addison and Sam: Up or down? »

While many parents-to-be spend months preparing for baby’s arrival by attending a long list of recommended classes — Taye Diggs and his wife Idina Menzel included — the Private Practice actor admits he still wasn’t exactly ready when the big day arrived!

“It got rough at moments because you have no idea [about] the sounds your wife is going to make,” Taye explains during a Thursday night visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“There were moments when I had to excuse myself and just take a deep breath, but at the end of the »

Day Break – The Complete Series DVD – Win Your Here

14 October 2009 10:32 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Of all the DVD releases of shows that didn't last through a first season run that have (bizarrely, I think) come along in the last year, no show actually deserves the treatment more than Day Break. Not that the somewhat odd, sci-fi effort starring Taye Diggs is the best show you've ever seen, but it's a really fun thriller full of twists and turns, and the seven episodes that never made it to air actually pull the thing together to a conclusion. If you missed it completely, Day Break finds Detective Brett Hopper in a really bad day, and unable to get out of it. Accused of shooting state attorney Alberto Garza, Hopper soon learns he's being framed, and his alibi isn't going to help him any. He runs, and when things don't work out... he wakes up (ala Groundhog Day) to start the day again, with the memories of »

Chandra Wilson, Sara Ramirez Diagnose Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice

12 October 2009 1:22 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Grey's Anatomy cast members Chandra Wilson and Sara Ramirez recently chatted with TV Guide about what's to come at Seattle Grace - and in the case of the former, what we can expect when she crosses over to Private Practice, ABC's sister show, this week.

“I’m being overprotective of a patient I have that of course their care has to happen in L.A. at St. Ambrose – because that’s the only place it can be in the world,” Wilson joked.

“So I’m heading over to Private Practice!”

Sara Ramirez teased a potential inter-show romantic angle coming our way: “You know, Taye Diggs’ character is single now,” she said of Bailey and Diggs' Dr. Sam Bennett.

Wilson won't bite. “I don’t share stories,” she insisted, laughing.

As for the rest of the Seattle Grace staff? They are about to feel a chill as the result of the merger with rival Mercy West, »

Interview: David Blue Does the Math on 'Stargate Universe'

8 October 2009 1:26 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Although relatively early in his career, David Blue has an impressive list of credits to his name. He had a recurring role on CBS’s Moonlight and ABC’s hit comedy Ugly Betty and has appeared in Veronica Mars and Scrubs. Also he has endeared himself to young viewers in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, worked with Tracie Thoms (Cold Case, The Devil Wears Prada) on the independent production This Can’t Be My Life and has made numerous appearance on the stage.

It is easy to see why he has won over audiences and producers with his ebullient personality and perpetual smile. Both of these traits were in evidence when he participated in a recent Q&A session to discuss his latest – and potentially most popular – role as mathematics master and fish-out-of-water Eli Wallace on Syfy’s Sgu: Stargate Universe. Sgu premiered last Friday on Syfy (and »

Every now and then, a movie comes out that transforms a male actor into someone to be desired, adored and often watched for decades to come. We're experiencing such a phenomenon now with Robert Pattinson, who has essentially starred in one wide-release movie and had "Twilight" transform him from "Who's that?" to "Hottest Man Alive" overnight.

But where does RPattz go from here? Will he launch a decades-long career? Work with directors like Spielberg and Scorsese? Or will he become another Hollywood cautionary tale? Below are a handful of beefcake breakouts transformed by one major role, whose careers could perhaps give guidance to the Sparkly One.

ShePop: Is going to 'Cougar Town' really that empowering?

26 September 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

So cougars are everywhere these days -- most notably in fall TV, baked right into the premise of Accidentally on Purpose and into the very title of Cougar Town. But also, partly because of said shows, in trend pieces and web sites and themed cruises and reasoned calls to quit using the darn term altogether. We got it: Ladies are now more often than in the past dating males who were born after them. Viva la post-feminism. I've given up trying to argue against cougarism as a concept -- that is, as an anomaly worth naming and dissecting, as if »

Review: The Super Hero Squad Show

24 September 2009 7:29 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Marvel’s latest entrance into the young demographic is their new Cartoon Network series, The Super Hero Squad Show, based on the Hasbro toyline.

The toys and the series feature small exaggerated/cartoonish versions of all the popular Marvel characters and the show takes them all and combines them into The Super Hero Squad to fight a combination of villains from all of the different Marvel books.

Since I’m a Marvel fan I thought I’d give the show a viewing by checking out its premiere and tell you what I thought. Continue on to see my feelings on the series and to check out some pics for the series as well as a list of the incredible voice talent they’ve gathered to play our favourite Marvel characters.

In short, this is just a big pile of awesome for kids. For adult Marvel fans, it’s still a fun watch too, »

A New Man for Kate Walsh

Kate Walsh seems to have moved on from her divorce to film executive Alex Young - she attended the Emmy Awards Sunday with new beau Neil Andrea. It's in the vault!" What wasn't secret was their affection. In the Architectural Digest greenroom at the Emmy Awards, Walsh introduced Andrea to actor Chris O'Donnell as "my boyfriend." Taye Diggs Digs Being Dad to Walker

22 September 2009 11:00 AM, PDT | People - CelebrityBabies | See recent People - CelebrityBabies news »

AP/Courtesy of Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs Amid the chaos and anxiety that comes with being a newly minted father, Taye Diggs has emerged with that uniquely parental emotion: pure, unadulterated awe.

“It’s been amazing just to come home to that little dude,” the Private Practice star, 38, tells People about the birth of his son, Walker Nathaniel, earlier this month. “Every time I leave the house, it just makes me want to come back even more. It’s just a great prize waiting for me.”

And that great prize seems to be the gift that keeps on giving for the first-time dad.

“I have a newfound respect and admiration that borders on worship of my wife,” Taye said at the American Cancer Society’s Blow Out Cancer event at Spago in Beverly Hills. “Just to see her turn into a mother overnight is amazing.”

For viewers who couldn't get enough of "Grey's Anatomy," ABC had the right prescription for the problem: "Private Practice." Disney released the show's second season on DVD last week, just in time for the show's third season premiere.

The spin-off's second season stars Kate Walsh as Addison Montgomery, who headed off to Santa Monica in the first season to join her old med school pals at their Los Angeles wellness clinic. They encounter even more hot-topic medical cases, including teen pregnancy, abortion, and even a hermaphrodite baby. But what really steams up the second season of "Private Practice" is their private lives, leading up to a shocking season finale.

Along with series regulars Walsh, Tim Daly, Audra McDonald, Taye Diggs, Amy Brenneman, Paul Adelstein, KaDee Strickland, and Chris Lowell, the second season of "Private Practice" also featured cross-over appearances from "Grey's Anatomy" star Patrick Dempsey as Addison's ex-husband Derek Shepherd. »

[TV] Private Practice: The Complete Second Season

20 September 2009 10:01 AM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Grey’s Anatomy became a bastion of estrogen-infused primetime goodness. It did. We can’t fight that fact. Just as the Oc dragged in viewers by the boatloads with its promises of youth and promiscuity, Grey’s uses alluring females pining for the sexy bachelors they work with on a daily basis. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Private Practice, the spin-off series of Grey’s Anatomy retains a lot of the romance-heavy themes; however, it may shock the male demographic to find out what the faithful female audience has known since its first season: there is actually some medical know-how to the show’s core. The same can be said of Grey’s earlier seasons, but it slowly shifted off-base so that any medical relevance has little to no impact on the plots – not so for Private Practice.

The Grey's Anatomy spin-off, Private Practice, had a little trouble getting out of the gates, but things started coming together pretty well in season two. The series started working the entire ensemble, and things moved toward a much more rounded, cohesive, and engaging show. The cast -Kate Walsh (“Grey’s Anatomy”), Tim Daly (“The Nine”), Audra McDonald (“A Raisin in the Sun”), Paul Adelstein (“Prison Break”), KaDee Strickland (American Gangster), Chris Lowell (“Veronica Mars”), with Taye Diggs (“Rent”) and Amy Brenneman (“Judging Amy”) - work together quite well in a show whose best feature is the fact that it doesn't take itself seriously. »
